Get familiar with ‘XOX’, R&B stunner released by Rihanna writer, Elijah Blake.
Lifted from his hotly anticipated ‘Bijoux 22‘ EP- out today- the mid tempo number features none other than Mr. ‘Finding Forever’ Common, one of the many contributors to the Jay Z backed mix tape.
So, after giving it a few spins today, we’ve already certified this is a smash.
Not sure why?
Get into it below…
See what we mean?
Armed with a discernible hook, vocals that already have many a R&B loyalist pledging their allegiance and a unique take on what might be called a common theme, ‘XOX‘ cements Blake’s status as his genre’s most promising ‘newbie’.
In saying that, though its follow up ‘Talk To Me’ will undoubtedly strike a stronger chord with Hip Hop audiences, ‘XOX’ serves as the perfect introduction for an act responsible for crafting two of the year’s greatest hits.

Reminds me of “all I want is you” by Miguel. I love Common, but I agree, they weren’t a good pair over this beat

My little brother keeps talking about this guy like he’s the new Drake but I don’t see the comparison. He sounds like a cleaner version of Usher or a hybrid between Frank and Weeknd.

The songwriting and vocals are on point, but the production is dated. Part of what made Climax so successful was Diplo’s work on that song. I just feel like they could’ve put more than a generic R&B beat to this. Don’t get me wrong, I like the song and I’ll definitely be checking for him, but I think he could’ve come a little stronger.
