When the new season of ‘American Idol‘ swings by January 16th, all eyes will be on ‘Whip It’ Rapper Nicki Minaj and her – if reports are to be believed- unique judging style.
However, while today saw her join her fellow judges at the 2013 Winter Television Critics Association Tour to promote the show, last month saw the Rapper share her doubts on joining the show, going as far as to reveal that she is unsure if she’ll return for a second season.
Honesty below…
Hmm.
If Jennifer Lopez’ run on the show taught us anything, it’s that if worked to one’s strengths a platform like ‘Idol’ can be used to revive interest in almost anything.
So it’s for this reason we scratch our heads at Nicki’s ‘well, whatever’ approach to the opportunity, considering she has the most to gain from the exposure it will undoubtedly afford her.
For, if Lopez was able to use the show to nab endorsements, push singles and convince fans tickets to her world tour were worth buying, there’s no reason Minaj shouldn’t be able to use it push her brand even further into mainstream consciousness and in turn, use each episode as a commercial for her personality and new material.
Material, she’d be sort of foolish not to perform on the ‘Idol’ stage at any given opportunity.
For, if ‘Roman Reloaded’ was able to shift 1.4 million worldwide in the space of 9 months, one can only imagine the numbers she could secure with its follow up if she milks her run on ‘Idol’ for all it’s worth.

There are plenty of LEGENDS in the indistry struggling to be successful again who are far more deserving of being a judge on this show. LOL! As if 2 albums means anything (and the second one is struggling to sell a measly million copies domestically.) That’s still basically newbie territory. She hasn’t proven herself a mainstay with only 2 albums to her resume. Let’s see if this gimmick is still around for a 5th and 6th album…and if those albums actually sell. You Minaj fans KILL me thinking that she’s proven herself, defied the odds and has firmly established herself for the long haul. No, dear. She hasn’t. And since her second album is already seeing a steep sales decline from her first (which didn’t exactly rock the industry), I’d say that predictions of her being just a passing fad are looking more and more true.

It’s a talent show, ANYONE is capable of judging it, but the focus should be SOLEY on the talent. Maybe she just realises that she is not that great off a judge.. I mean she practically forced herself on to that show, she is the real reason JLO left, think back to when Nicki performed on the show and told JLO she would be a judge next year JLO was like no, and you could see the tension, so when it was said she would be joining the panel , JLO was out!
Also be very aware that Randy Jackson has nooo love for Nicki at all, his been defending Mariah since Nicki ran her mouth, i think she knows no matter what, she ruined her image on idol and ruined her rep with some big people, as much as she is having fun on the show she must feel that after this season the bosses would not invite her back regardless of whether she is good or not

-American Idol wanted Nicki and theyve had glowing reviews for her judging ablility. It’s VERY evident that AI needs Nicki more than Nicki needs AI.
