Trey Songz Announces Album Re-Release – ‘Trigga: Reloaded’

Despite debuting at #1 on the Billboard 200 last Summer, Trey Songz‘s latest album ‘Trigga’ has become the R&B star’s lowest selling project to date. Indeed, as at writing, the set has only sold 290,000 copies in the US since July 2014.

In a bid to rescue the situation, the singer has announced a re-release.

Details below…

Taking to Instagram today, Songz shared the snap below, which reveals that the interestingly titled ‘Trigga: Reloaded’ will arrive on April 14th:

A smart move given the current spell of interest surrounding his ‘Between The Sheets’ tour with Chris Brown.

That said, the smartest approach would be to add whatever is needed to help push the project to Gold (500k) and move right on.

The original ‘Trigga’ is literally one of the most boring, uninspired albums we’ve heard in forever – and it seems the record buying public agree. As such, there’s little longterm value in trying to revive a project that ultimately isn’t deserving.

We’ll keep saying it (until he does it); Trey has taken a Fordist approach to producing his LPs. Making the same toasty dry album over and over again. Problem is, this is exactly what’s keeping him from driving beyond “local” status.

For an artist who clearly pulls from R. Kelly‘s blueprint, Trey should be smart enough to realise that for every ‘Bump N Grind’ there’s an ‘I Believe I Can Fly’, and for each ‘Ignition’ there’s a ‘Step In The Name Of Love.’ Put simply, versatility is not only key, but “the” key Trey needs to unlock relevance again. Hopefully he reaches for it sooner rather than later.

This proves that having a #1 album means NOTHING

    • Skyfall February 15, 2015

Exactly so the Rihanns shade is redundant and useless considering all the people who debuted #1 she sold more than.

      • King February 15, 2015

        Bloop!

  2. king z February 15, 2015

for as true as your essay is sam, you’re wrong.

trey seems content with “local” (as you call it) relevance. his fan base is too. he is the most relevant male R&B act out now.

so, if i aint broke, why fix it

    • King February 15, 2015

“He’s the most relevant R&B act out now.”…what kind of delusion??…Trey is nowhere near being the most relevant R&B act right now.

      • Danny Bey February 15, 2015

Then who is?…….. Certainly not Fist Brown *waits*

      • Marie June 26, 2015

        Thank u my thoughts exactly

  3. Queenly February 15, 2015

Those are typical numbers for R&B artist these days. I’m sure CB’s album has sold around the same amount with 132366 singles…

    • Skyfall February 15, 2015

These sales are typical with all artist today period. Only very few are going gold/platinum

    • Queenly February 15, 2015

True. Album sales are in the Pitts. Can you imagine how terrible they’ll be 3-5 years from now?

  4. Molly February 15, 2015

    Ashtrey is beyond tired sorry

    • Molly February 15, 2015

      Girl stop, no ones interested.

    • Joblack February 15, 2015

I think it’s a nicely done. I would try to minimize the scrolling though, and group things a little better. you’re on the right track though.

      • Pat February 15, 2015

@Joblack, I’m with u on the scrolling. Definitely not the worst blog.

    • Single February 15, 2015

I like the site, and you write very well. good luck. It gets redundant but don’t stop !!

  5. Foxy February 15, 2015

Trey is played out. His music is boring and one dimensional. He was onto something with Ready, but he became repetitive and lost it.

  6. Al February 15, 2015

YAWN. Should be glad he’s shifted 300K in this day of age that’s a good fan base for his music. Trey has only had a UK hit Top10 here. Look at Iggy’s sales of her rerelease… Be thankful someone’s buying your music just come out gay and do a frank ocean ha

I hope maybe now these Stan wars can stop. There is a difference in hype and an artist actually selling. This is a well known artist that can get a #1 album only to sell bout a quarter of a million. Any artist that’s going platinum and selling out tours are very fortunate.

  8. #TeamTinashe Stan February 15, 2015

“Trigga” is actually a great album imo.

    • Bruno Mars stan February 15, 2015

      It’s his best since Ready

    • sincerelymel February 15, 2015

THANK YOU ..it may not show a ton of growth but it’s an album for the club & turn up in the car.

  9. DanYiel Teflon February 15, 2015

I didn’t purchase “Trigga” actually didn’t know it released..

  10. I STAN(D) FOR TALENT February 15, 2015

He’s boring. He’s no entertainer. He’s just a basic ass singer.

    • Marie June 26, 2015

That’s what I’ve been telling my daughter who loves him he’s just a singer that’s it really boring

  11. RihYonce February 15, 2015

Trey is doing really well & he is one of the most relevant R&B acts out ! It’s only him , Chris Brown , August Alsina , and maybe Usher other than that there is NO ONE else. & album are down the drain unless your Rihanna , Beyoncé, Drake , Taylor Swift & Justin Timberlake and a few more , the day when those artist don’t go platinum the industry will officially be dead

  12. african music lover February 15, 2015

I actually enjoyed trigger but damn at these horrible sales

  13. Lake Erie February 15, 2015

Lol. Trey like: F*** you! I’m getting me a Grammy! 😉 lol. But I’m going to buy this album though. I’m def feeling that “slow motion”. Plus I haven’t bought any of his LPs since “PPP”. So yea. 🙂

  14. bertus February 15, 2015

Hallo domme kneusjes! Jullie stinken een beetje uit jullie mond

  15. King February 15, 2015

But his album is still in mint condition on shelves right now. All it needs it a lil dusting.

  16. Arie February 15, 2015

I bought Trigga, it’s a good album hopefully he can add whatever’s missing to make it great.

  17. Bitchplease February 15, 2015

    This a very good.

  18. TheElusiveLamb February 15, 2015

I think of idea of reloading the album is great. I’m hoping the Elusive Chanteuse reloads May 6th. So sad how low the industry is and stans make it even worse.

  19. Theman February 15, 2015

He has to add some edge to his music.. It became stuck..

  20. Alixt February 15, 2015

Well since we got haters why not show them what trigga does when he’s trigga and not trey songz. Fire will be spit.
