Kelly Rowland Hints At Roc Nation Record Deal?

While Kelly Rowland has spent much of the year out of the spotlight following the birth of son Titan last November, the Grammy winning songstress hasn’t been inactive. Indeed, not only has she begun production on her hotly anticipated BET talent search ‘Chasing Destiny,’ she has also been working diligently on her fifth solo album.

In regard to the latter, many have been wondering which label will house the as yet untitled set, after Rowland bid adieu to former recording home Republic last year.

We’ve been doing our homework, and it appears Ms. Kelly may be heading to Roc Nation.

Details below…

In the early hours of this morning, the 34-year-old shared the snap below of herself and manager-husband Tim Weatherspoon in what she captioned “the golden office.”

Well, realizing that it looked familar, we’ve done some digging and recalled that Rihanna posted a shot of herself in the same room recently and confirmed it to be the Roc Nation office.

Yall better have her money…. #TheGoldStandard #Rihanna

Naturally, this begs the question of whether Kelly is heading to the Roc. Without knowing the inner-workings of such a deal, on paper at least it feels like the surest of fits.

Beyond the obvious Jay-Z connection (which in itself should offer the singer a degree of commitment perhaps missing from past deals), Roc Nation are actively pushing their new label over at Universal.

Some may be scratching their heads asking; but haven’t they always been a label? In short, no. The Roc main’s operation was that of a mangement/A&R’ing juggernaut; with a recent expansion into a fully-fledged label under the Universal umbrella.

From where we’re standing, it’d be an awesome look for Kelly and arguably the stable with the best infrastructure to help her spring to the heights of success she deserves.

Stay tuned to see how this unfolds.

I love Kelly! She’s my fave DC member. However, she needs to quit trying to rehash another Motivation. She keeps doing it and it keeps backfiring on her. She needs to do a Janet Together Again or Gloria Gaynor I Will Survive.

She didn’t do that chill she shared a snippet for 3 songs non of them were sexual..

      100%

I love the Miss Kelly album because it has moments of everything. Feels like the album that is truest to her.

I’d prefer a partnership in which she gets her own label like Rihanna’s Westbury Road but whatever Kelly decides, I’ll still support her. Just give me the album already! Lol

    Flop

  4. Rowlandstones September 4, 2015

But she did her Album independently on her own expense so why now?

    • ugh okay September 4, 2015

i’d say she doesn’t need to manage the distro herself. it’s expensive. that easy.

    • african music lover September 4, 2015

that album was a masterpiece honey

    • WHAT!!!! September 5, 2015

Umm that album has only sold 300,000…..please post your where you got this information. Also, in the last 6 years NO album that sold UNDER 100K in the first week has gone PLATINUM……….SILVER maybe??? I will say it was a great album and should be platinum.

SecondLeadVocalist is better off independent. She’s already got her husband and the father of her child as her manager, and she previously had Matthew Knowles running her career. Now she wants to sign with her bestfriends husband? No kelly, things will only become more complicated if you mix friendships and business together.

Lets not foucu on the negative sheez! I see this being a good thing for Kellz. She will have more backing overall creative control. Beyonce is so far gone thier cant possibly be any conflict and her and JayZ will allow her to and help her shine even more. So much damn money kelly wont have to worry about that now since 100k first week sales is that number to get for record companies to feel the urge to push the artist whic is bs Artists like Kelly should get the push like what Scooter Braun and Tori Kelly singing on allthe award showsBET included he set that s*** up, along with hot 100 radio spins Kelly Rowland will get that now! Roc and Rita Ora s*** why not Kelly Rowland too that girl is set watch!

I’m really not following your train(s) of thought, it’s like you’re trying to say too many things at once and it’s making zero sense. I’m not going to address your opinion because you’re being unclear and incoherent, but I will go into more detail about my thoughts.
        _____
Kelly is a beautiful talented woman but she hasn’t really established an identity for herself outside of DC yet, (except for the R&B/Edm wave she spearheaded a couple of years ago and a few strong singles). Kelly would be a more established act if she used her own professional route with her solo career instead of holding onto her past affliations. Who else beside J.Cole and Rihanna, has managed to get sales with RocNation? Even Beyonces own sister hasn’t seen the success that she deserves (check out Hadley street dreams for the definition of underrated if you wish…).
I don’t even think it has much to do with Jay being B’s husband, I just think RocNation hasn’t really established themselves the way BadBoy did a decade ago (let’s face it even though BB artists never saw 2nd or 3rd albums they still produced some of the best R&B/HipHop albums of the 90s). If you respond, I’d like it to be in clear sentences please ????

This is incorrect. Roc Nation have been a record label since inception in 2008. They had a 4 year marketing and distribution deal with Sony Music from 2009, then went over to Universal in 2013. The management arm actually started after the label division.

  8. Selenator *Same Old Love* is coming September 4, 2015

Well besides J.Cole, who have they launched successfully? Rita does good in the UK I guess. The only stars they managed well are Rih and Kanye. Idk why they keep signing established acts instead of pushing new talent.

  9. #justsayn September 4, 2015

As a rowlandstone please dont do this! Keep business and family separate! Kelly always tryna be loyal instead of doing whats best for her! Please dont put your music on Tidal! Please!!! She still havent learnt her lesson from Matthew Knowles… Keep your solo projects separate!

  10. lol September 4, 2015

Just go indie sis no record label can help you at this point

  11. Mark111 /.\ September 4, 2015

Maybe management. She’s better off inde, she’ll make more and have more control. Her number as an inde artist would be great. I’m for inde r&b.

  12. cocobutta September 4, 2015

Maybe theres a deal where the Chasing Destiny winners get a deal there

    • #justsayn September 4, 2015

Why would she do that??? That then means Roc Nation will be making money off the artist she discovered! She needs to build her own empire like Bey as ParkWood! Its a shame shes been in the industry over two decades and has no businesses of her own. Nothing she can say she owns! That is really crazy!

      • Ann September 5, 2015

She talks about buisness ventures but why does she have to be like averybody else, esp reality tv stars with their clothing shoes and alcohol deals blah blah blah Whats more important is she’s not spending overzealous!

  13. #TeamTinashe Stan September 4, 2015

I am here for Kelly but she better PROMOTE the hell out of this. And I am not so keen on the idea of working with Roc Nation. Matthew Knowles held her down in favor of his daughter and now it’ll be Beys husband doing the same thing. Hope not.

  14. The Pink Print September 4, 2015

Or she could have just already been in New York to Support Serena Williams at the tennis match Us open and she went to the label afterwords to hang out with B for her birthday.

    • #justsayn September 5, 2015

Beys in Philly for her performance!

  15. bb September 4, 2015

ROC NATON IS 6 YRS OLD and they have only had J Cole album success aside from JAYZ ofcourse.
I wish her luck but she shoud stay independent at this stage.

  16. frank September 4, 2015

    Go gurl…..#rowlandstone

  17. TheElusiveLamb September 6, 2015

    Congrats if true.

  18. Jasondonovan September 9, 2015

Jay z.. Has little to do at this point with the daily operations of Rock Nation…
If Kelly has decided to sign with them, It has nothing to do with nepotism.
    As for her going independent!
She has spent her own money or financed, on studio time and production,
So I would think she would want to join a label to help promote it..
As for comments like ” she better promote it “, and drop more singles and make a video asap” 1.artist rarely have control of what’s songs get sent to radio
    2. It cost big bucks to send/release to all formats
3.she needs A label that will get her face everywhere and Roc Nation is famous for that
4.regardless Kelly of “flop” Kelly is already well known.. So with extra finicial push.. This will only help her. TV commercials, movie/TV roles..and so on
Kelly wants to be A personality not just A singer
She is extremely well spoken in interviews and is very likeable.. Bottom line if Kelly is with Roc Nation (it’s not even close to being the JAY Z..show anymore) it’s A positive move
