Rihanna’s ‘Anti’ Becomes the First Black Female Album To Nab OVER 300 Weeks on Billboard 200

Published: Saturday 12th Feb 2022 by Rashad

In a land and time far away from the one we know, Rihanna‘s last studio album – 2016’s ‘Anti’ – was considered a commercial failure thanks to a murky rollout and a slew of non-starting singles.

Fast forward to 2022, the LP is one of the best-performing projects of the millennium (commercially and critically), an ongoing victory that’s continually underscored by successes announced at the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and Billboard.

This week, the latter unveiled news of yet another groundbreaking milestone attributed to the opus which – as of time reported – has sold over 11 million copies worldwide.

Already penciled in history books for being the first album by a Black female artist to secure 200 weeks on the Billboard 200 (as we reported here), the refreshed edition of the chart finds ‘Anti’ at #125 in its 301st week of charting.

With this news, the ‘Work’-housing LP becomes the first album by a Black female artist to work its way past the 300-week threshold on the main album chart.

Extending its reign as one of the longest-running albums in the history of the Billboard 200 (among all women), only Adele‘s ’21’ (527 weeks), Lana Del Rey‘s ‘Born To Die’ (418), Taylor Swift‘s ‘1989’ (373 weeks), and Carole King‘s ‘Tapestry’ (318 weeks) have accumulated more time on the tally.

Beyoncé can’t relate. That’s why Bey is afraid of releasing any new solo music 😂😂 Queen Rihanna

      Why shading Beyoncé?
She is ALSO a global superstar with millions in sales and with many accolades and awards, with an impressive career indeed.
Why dont you start appreciating WOMEN´s hard work and success in this male/patriarch dominated world?
Where does your attitude takes you, darling? Tolerance and an open mind work best, surely.
      GROW UP!

      Preach!!!!!!

    • HELLOKITTY February 21, 2022

Yup, and rightly so. It’s only on BB because the label paid to keep it on there. You’d be surprised at the $$ or INVISIBLE dollars used (requests) that get artists music put on that list. It really means less than you think.

I remember when TGJ used to call her and the album a Flop…

Dear TGJ, Would you kindly focus on some quality news and posts?

I can´t imagine how you get interviews from musicians these days when your “quality” has been on a downfall for several years now. I´ve had your website on favourites for years but I have just removed the tag. There is nothing likeable from this website anymore, tbh.

Please stop posting about reality shows such as the real housewives franchises, etc. We don´t give a sh*t about any of them. Please focus on MUSIC and MUSICIANS. Thanks.!

Btw, you should not label Rihanna as a black female… SHE IS NOT!

    • Kix February 14, 2022

Rihanna has a Black Guianese mother and a Biracial Bajan dad so she is a Black woman

      • Honest visitor February 15, 2022

No offence intended with my previous comment honestly, but we need to consider a few points. People of colour doesn´t mean they are automatically black.
With your very own description, she is mixed race, and i would agree with that.
I mean, is it not clear that ALL her features are mixed? Does she not have both Irish ,African and Caribbean influence in her DNA?
I don´t recall her labelling herself as a BLACK ARTIST, ever.
The issue here is the AMERICAN conception of race towards music (and other fields). It seems here that only black people can make music with african or afroamerican roots.

It’s way easier to do this with streaming when you’re a highly popular pop artist. How much of those 11 million sales are actual sales?

    • Rkelly February 13, 2022

      When will ANY Nicki album???
