Sheeran’s deal with WMG ended earlier this year. By jumping to Interscope, he will now operate under Universal Music Group, the largest major label in the world.
The terms of the deal remain undisclosed. It is expected to be a long-term arrangement.
Sheeran signed with WMG in 2011 via its imprints Asylum and Atlantic in the U.K. He released seven albums through the label, including his math-themed albums and the blockbuster debut, + (Plus). He scored a pair of No. 1 hits on the Billboard Hot 100, ‘Shape of You‘ and ‘Perfect.’
When Sheeran announced his departure from Warner, he shared a newsletter with fans. He wrote:
“This isn’t a ‘disgruntled artist leaves record label’ type situation. This is a boy who started as a teenager on the company with different priorities, to the father of 2 man who exists now, who feels like he needs a shift and change.”
Warner added in its own statement that it is “proud to have supported Ed through his discovery and remarkable rise” and wished him “the very best.”
