This s*** is corny as f*** and Ariana is a hugely misguided artist. You can tell by her live performances that she is being guided into a direction where she doesn’t feel comfortable. She keeps doing these Mariah-esque songs but Mariah could SELL the song that’s the difference between the likes of a legend and a Disney girl living out a singing dream.
She’s not from Disney and she actually wanted to do this style herself. Look up her 1st single called Put Your Hearts Up, its a bubble gum pop song that’s completely different from the direction she’s going now. Her sound now isn’t original but its better than the previous one. Refreshing really.

This is way worse than Gaga´s inspirations sorry. The problem with Gaga and Madonna didn´t come until Born This Way era. Even you liked her before that. Gaga had a huge debut era and she started a new sound and started to do huge videos like we didn´t see since I don´t know when, etc. She went too far with Born This Way maybe but she can leave that in the past with her new album.
But this girl? Man, she is not a songwriter or something, so can anybody explain to me why the hell isn´t her team of songwriters able to leave her obsession with Mariah behind and make her different songs??? I mean, damn, it is a really wrong way to debut in the industry. Even Leona Lewis was better and her debut music was way better than this, and had big sales (I don´t see it for this girl, huge album sales I mean) and she still couldn´t survive more than two eras-albums on top.
Gaga was called a carbon copy of Gaga since day one. It got worse after the Alejandro video came out.
Honestly, Ariana could make EDM songs and the comparisons would still be there. It doesn’t matter what music she makes, anyone who can hit those notes will be compared to Mariah because she was the first who could hit them and made it her trademark. Just look at how Christina got the comparisons when she was making bubble gum t*** pop. Most likely Ariana will stick with this sound for the album and move on for her second one. But I’m ok with this sound. Its dated in a good way and it reminds me of old school MC in a good way.

It’s good, but I would feel some type of way if I was Mariah. I’m not even sure how to feel; I’m conflicted. I can’t even know what to say 😉 Anyway, I still don’t understand the single cover though. It looks like something that was taken at sears portrait studio in the late 70’s.

I’m loving this track. The dated 90s style Urban t*** pop style fits her well. Reminds me of the few R&B tracks on Christina’s debut album. I can see her taking home Best New Artist at the Grammys. Who would’ve thought that a Nickelodeon star would outperform the acts turned out by the Disney Chanel machine.
She’s not really outperforming them. Miley’s we can’t stop is selling up to 216,000 singles a week. That song is platinum and peaked at #3 and was released in June, Selena Gomez Come and Get it which was released in April is 2x platinum and peaked at #6. Ariana’s The Way was released in March and it’s sales are roughly around 1.4-1.5 mill and peaked at #9.

All i can say is that Ariana Grande plainly said that she LOVES Mariah and thats some of her inspiration. She also said she loves the 90s throwback vibe and thats the direction she is going. PYHU was her first song it was pop and she clearly said she hated it. OK so get off her back she is trying to pay homage and do her thing.
She doesn’t have that stratospheric feel to her voice like Mariah. She sounds like she hits her ceiling, Mariah always sounds like she can go higher and higher. The song is a lil generic but it is catchy.

I actually like the song…it’s a cross between Rock Wit U (Aww Baby) & Honey. Having said that I do agree that Ariana is really gonna have to be a lot more original. Sure the Mariah Carey comparisons are great, but there’s nothing better than carving your own path. (Day Dreamin?!?
