Chart Check: Lorde Wears The Crown / Britney Rebounds

Published: Wednesday 9th Oct 2013 by Rashad

Naysayers may have doubted initially, but now it seems pop princess Britney Spears’ newest song ‘Work B*tch’ is doing just that – working.

Indeed, the song nearly slipped out of the top 50 a week after its debut on Itunes, but weeks later, after a smoking hot video to aid, the dance number appears to have re-entered the race – giving a run to chart champions Lorde, Miley Cyrus and Katy Perry (who have collectively dominated the Hot 100 all summer long).

Their efforts appear to be extending into the fall as well, but will their catchy tunes be enough to keep Britney at bay?  This week’s chart check awaits…

Who run the world?  Girls, apparently.

Via Billboard:

“Lorde’s “Royals” rules the Billboard Hot 100 for a second week…and Britney Spears’ “Work B**ch!” zooms toward the Hot 100’s top 10. Lorde’s debut hit fends off Katy Perry’s former two-week Hot 100 No. 1 “Roar” for a second week (2-2).

Perry concurrently debuts at No. 34 on the Hot 100 with “Walking on Air”. The cut begins on Digital Songs at No. 8 (113,000). Two weeks ago, fellow “Prism” track “Dark Horse” (featuring Juicy J) started on the Hot 100 at No. 17 and Digital Songs at No. 4 (194,000); this week, it descends 8-10 on Digital Songs (99,000, down 5%).

As previously reported, with “Roar,” “Air” and “Horse” in the Digital Songs top 10 simultaneously, Perry is the first artist with three concurrent titles in the bracket since Taylor Swift almost a year ago. Just outside the Hot 100’s top tier, Britney Spears’ “Work B**ch!” rebounds 41-13, nearly matching its No. 12 peak posted upon its debut two weeks ago.”

Miley made the song more popular after performing it at the vmas plus she made Robin more popular in general even he said so 🙂

      • thelastdon October 9, 2013

Miley didn’t make NOBODY more popular cuz Blurred lines already went #1 on billboard for 12 weeks str8 b4 the vma performance so stop tryna take the man’s hard work away from him.. If Miley made him more popular why didn’t wrecking ball stayed at #1 for 12 weeks

Because their music is stale sweetie.

      • thelastdon October 9, 2013

Their music are stale yet none of the top songs except blurred lines gonna get any grammys much less a damn nomination and watch the “stale” songs get a grammy

    • Touché October 9, 2013

I know, RnB generally doesn’t get much attention unless it’s mixed with Hip hop.

    • thelastdon October 9, 2013

all the songs u listed above had meaning and soul..plus nobody was half naked in the videos

      • FAF October 10, 2013

  4. thelastdon October 9, 2013

I’m guessing the YLvis song will leave the top 10 once Halloween is dead and gone cuz i can’t see how in the hell that’s top 10 material.

  5. Tisha October 9, 2013

    Ylvis The Fox #6

    The world I live in…

    • thelastdon October 9, 2013

It’s #6 due to streaming cuz it’s only have a 1.2M audience on radio..

      • Touché October 9, 2013

What? Suck your baby d***? No thanks.

  7. Molly October 9, 2013

Wow just listened to the Ylvis Fox song and i can’t believe something so s***** could even chart let alone make top 10 my country is a joke.

    • thelastdon October 9, 2013

I’ve never heard dat damn song until 2day cuz of billboard 100..

      • FAF October 10, 2013

And that Wake Me Up song is HORRIBLE its some black man singing & yodeling over a country autotune MESS… I hate these new billboard rules – I thought it was gonna help people at first until I realized you have to basically break 24 hour record to even make an impact. Most times an artist has released a video its before the single is available on Itunes so the debut views don’t even help

  8. thelastdon October 9, 2013

Streaming is really f***** up billboard 100 cuz Ylvis song would never made it 2 top 30 if it wasn’t for vevo and youtube streaming..U tellin me that the songs below it sold more and had more airplay yet they are at a lower # on billboard 100.. If it wasn’t for streaming work b**** would’ve fell out the top 50 and wrecking ball never woulda made it to #1

    • FAF October 10, 2013

Exactly ! Its just another thing to hurt black artists bc white people don’t check for soul videos so they won’t be on the charts do you think Ledisi is gonna get 14mil views in 24 hours ? 🙄

      SO STUPID .

    • LOL October 10, 2013

LOL YUP, FLOPLEY CYRUS WOULD HAVE NEVER MADE IT TO #1 IF YOUTUBE DIDN’T EXIST.

  9. Jamie October 9, 2013

Applause is trash why is it still in the top 10??? Ewwwww…. has cici overdose charted yet?

    • thelastdon October 9, 2013

If applause is trash so wat would u call YLvis song ..oh let me guess it brilliant cuz gaga didn’t sing it.. The hate for Gaga is real..Applause 1.3M and counting so u mite as well stop lookn at bb100 cuz it’s not comin off the chart anytime soon..

      • Jamie October 9, 2013

        Applause is so 2010

    • Touché October 9, 2013

The delusion. The only decent songs in the top ten are Applause, Holy Grail, and Summertime Sadness.

      • Jamie October 9, 2013

lol Girl please how can you say generic dance trash applause is better than that power ballad wrecking ball. #delusional

      • Touché October 9, 2013

Gurl bye. Wrecking ball was nothing but a generic pop song full of cliches. Stop acting like it’s on the level of a Celine or Mariah ballad.

      • Jamie October 9, 2013

If Mariah sang it you’d love it but since its Miley you act like its not worthy.

      • thelastdon October 9, 2013

i’VE NEVER HEARD SUMMERTIME SADNESS N NEVER PLAN ON IT

      • Dirty laundry October 9, 2013

        Summertime sadness slays applause.

      • Touché October 9, 2013

The lies. There are plenty of songs I don’t like from Mariah’s albums even during her prime so that’s absolute b*******. Even if she or Celine sang this, I still wouldn’t have even bought it because it’s still hot steaming garbage.

      • Stop the drama Start the music October 10, 2013

Thank u. @touche I don’t get the love for wrecking ball. How many times have we heard that type of song before??

Sorry man, but your relevancy ship already sailed in 2011

You is irrelevant now. You hardly get attention out here

    Hang it up Flat screen

    • LTM October 10, 2013

Lol I don’t ever remember him being a relevant commentor

    • Stop the drama Start the music October 10, 2013

He was never relevant sis. Just a troll.

  20. LTM October 10, 2013

I’m impressed with how well Royals is doing considering Roar is dominating it on radio and streaming. I would’ve liked to see Roar stay at #1 a little longer but I like Royals so I don’t mind. It has potential to be her best selling single to date. And to think some people on here thought she’d flop…

Honestly, seeing how well Miley’s singles are doing and how she’s currently the most talked about artist I expected her album to do at least 300k.

  21. JER October 10, 2013

WTF is Blurred Lines still doing in the Top 10?! GO AWAY!!!! BYEE!!!!!!!!!!! No one cares! Tired ass song!! And “The Fox”? GTFO!!!! This is why The Hot 100 is a mess. These songs are only hogging spots in the Top 10 when they shouldn’t even be there. Airplay is still too large and the mysterious “streaming” that is all over the place has too much weight. If Youtube video views are counted then why aren’t TV appearances and commercials counted? You can’t count some things and not count others. It’s ridiculous! All of these things, radio, TV, the internet affect sales which should be the sole component AKA like the UK charts. SMH. Billboard is a M.E.S.S

  22. Arthus October 10, 2013

As if Britney could be at #1… Even Gaga didn’t get there !
Britney, you want to be #1. You gotta work b****
