With social media still buzzing about last night’s BET Awards, attention has slowly been turning towards the show’s performance commercially.
Hyped in earnest thanks to an all-star Janet Jackson tribute and a Bad Boy reunion, would the excitement translate into commendable numbers for the network?
Per newly published stats, the answer is a resounding yes!

TV By The Numbers reports that the BET Awards 2015 block of programming was watched by nearly 12 million people.
Aired simultaneously on BET and Centric, the ratings breakdown read as:
* BET Pre-Show (6-8 p.m. EST) – 1.9 million viewers.
* BET Awards 2015 (8 p.m. – 11:50 p.m. EST) – 6.5 million viewers.
* BET Post-Show (11:50 p.m.-12:54 a.m. EST) – 3.4 million viewers.
Last night’s live premiere of the main show (which featured singer Ciara, pictured above) now sits as Cable’s #1 Award Show of the year so far.
The numbers really re-affirm the power in the BET brand. For, year in and out, the show continues to close the ratings gap between rivals that sit on mainstream networks (see: MTV VMA’s and Billboard Awards).

TGJ, how slow are yall? No, seriously, how slow are ya’ll? Where did you get the figures that 12 million people watched the show? It clearly says 6 million people tuned into the actual show. The people who tuned into the pre-and-post show were clearly not brand new viewers but were most likely included in the viewership of the main show. Ya’ll just be blatantly lying and most people are swift enough to catch it.

I’m really not sure if all shows add them up or do they post the peak view. The Superbowl adds up the views the same way.
It had its moments, but I think the show has been better in the past. My biggest disappointment was the Janet tribute. Tinashe did a fantastic job, but the MTV Icon tribute 15 years ago was better because Janet actually performed. And I don’t blame BET for it, because if Janet really wants to do something she does it. She apparently didn’t feel like bothering with it.

Kim fans be like : Nicki has no Grammys, kim has more plat albums than her, she has no #1. Lol I could do the exact same: kim has no #1 album, PF outsold any of her albums, kims last album isnt even gold, Nic has more top 10 hits than any female rapper, she sold more singles than any femzle rapper, she has 2 #1 plat albums (n a gold album so far) vs 0 for kim.
1) Nobody cares about #1 albums if them bishes ain’t platinum. HOnika has two #1 albums, but only one of them is platinum in sales – and that was with the payola of Birdman. Now Birdman has stopped buying those albums, we see she can’t even push 750k worldwide.
2) Pink Friday DID NOT outsell Hard Core worldwide. Hard Core sold 5.7 million copies worldwide. Pink Friday only did 3.5 million worldwide. Albums are not just sold in the United States. They are sold all over the world. Lil’ Kim was GLOBAL in her prime. Much more global than Nicki Minaj is now.
3) HOnika selling more singles than any other female rapper is an irrelevant achievement if the parent album of those singles can’t sell platinum. Artists couldn’t release four hundred songs on iTunes and chart with them 20 years ago (or even 10 years ago). There were tighter rules. But how is it an achievement that HOnika has sold 65 million singles with 453893489398894389 songs? It ain’t. And none of those songs have hit #1.
4) Lil’ Kim went to prison on the release of her fourth album and couldn’t promote it. Yet the album still sold decently, even though not as high as her other albums. Let’s send HOnika to jail before the release of her fourth album, and let’s see how she’ll sell without being able to promote it. With all the promotion that stink pusssy bish couldn’t even sell 250k in the first week.
And people have been talking so much s*** about the “EBT Awards” when it has been slaying the other music awards shows for the past couple years (in both quality and ratings). I thorougly enjoyed the show. BET did a damn good job this year. I have nothing negative to say.

I actually look forward to this show every year as all areas within our culture come together to celebrate their talents abd success without getting snubbed for being black! Every famous black female singer from this generation, except Beyonce, was there last night and it was only to see Janet. Rihanna, Brandy, Monica, Kelly Rowland, Michelle Williams, Keyshia Cole, Ciara, Tinashe, etc. Kudos to Ciara, Tinashe and Jason for saluting the Queen last night.
