As the clock counts down to Justin Timberlake‘s headlining slot at the 2018 Super Bowl Halftime Show, debate continues to rage about why he got the gig in the first place.
Indeed, given his integral role in the infamous “wardrobe malfunction” during Janet Jackson‘s 2004 performance, millions are still unable to rationalize how he has been asked back and she is reportedly “banned.”
Even Jackson’s industry peers are weighing in. Case in point, actress Bette Midler who did not hold back about the matter on Twitter.

I agree with everything Bette said. Too bad people like Bette Midler did not speak up YEARS ago. I do believe it is truly unfair and racist that Justina gets to perform again and the industry blocked Janet’s opportunities.
How is it racist? Same thing would have happened if it had been Madonna. It’s misogynist, it’s unfair, it’s wrong, but it’s not racist.
How about if it had been Usher instead of Timberlake?
If you think Janet deserved to have her videos, music projects, and public performances derailed for over ten years because of this little incident then you are purposefully turning a blind eye to racism. Everything that happened to janet after the super bowl speaks volumes of the state of racism and sexism in American. The white boy went on to have an extremely successful career and the black girl got blackballed and career ended. The fact that they invited JT back after what they did to janet is sickening.
She just came off a world tour had 2-4 number one albums, multi platinum albums and multiple world tours, including headlining two of the largest summer music festivals this summer, and has remained the best female performer of all times AND done multiple movies and books, fashion collars, modeling deals etc . Career ended? Not even close. Career suffered? For sure:

She has definitely not released a multi-platinum album since the Super Bowl incident, nor have her concerts been grossing the same numbers they did before that. To say the SB incident didn’t have a detrimental impact on her career is delusional.

This could be a win for Justin or a losing situation for Justin.
