As we reported here years ago, Gladys Knight made it well known that Destiny’s Child alum Kelly Rowland was her top choice for portrayal of her legendary life in a biopic.
And, while that wish was (to a degree) honored when the ‘Motivation’ singer was picked to play the ‘Empress of Soul’ in BET’s forthcoming, ‘Soul Train’-inspired television series – ‘American Soul’ – it certainly gives the 37-year-old the chance to show off her acting chops in case the full length biographical film ever develops.
Until then, look inside for your first peek at Rowland assuming the role of the R&B icon…

She does not seem like a good fit based on the clip. Her ‘acting’ is stiff and one dimensional.

These same black artist of today dont even attend soul train awards. They beg for white acceptance at the grammys, billboards… beyonce, kelly, rihanna, usher, omarion, trey songz, ciara, nicki minaj, solange… such a shame..
Sad but true. Back in the day, basically all our black superstars, MJ, Janet, Whitney, Prince, Anita, Patti, Gladys, etc. made it a point to appear at the Soul Train Awards every chance they got, even if they weren’t nominated. Nowadays you can count on one hand how many times these so-called black superstars of this generation have made an appearance on the Soul Train Awards in their entire careers.
Kelly is just not a very good actress. Lord knows I’m a huge fan of her “sister” Beyonce, but I have to admit that both of them have shortcomings when it comes to acting based on what I’ve seen them do in that department so far. Although I think some of the acting will be a bit shaky at times, I’m still looking forward to this series.
Meh, she does slightly resemble Gladys, but her acting leaves ALOT to be desired. Personally I kinda wish they had just did a biopic or miniseries instead of a weekly series, this isn’t really grabbing my interest.
