Check out Alicia Keys!
The 15-time Grammy winner is one of several notable names tapped to cover Harper’s Bazaar‘s annual ICONS issue.
Within the striking feature, lens by Mario Sorrenti, Keys spills on her new album (the follow-up to 2016’s ‘HERE’), her female empowering anthems, the metamorphosis motherhood brought about and more!
Peep pics and quotes after the jump…
On her upcoming album: “It reflects where I am today—the deeper acceptance I have of who I am as a full human being, the flaws, the pieces that I used to push aside because I wasn’t ready to embrace the anger or the fear or the crazy.”
On receiving a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame: “Though I’ve always been grateful, I’ve never put too much weight on awards. But now I’m trying to be better about cherishing the big, wonderful things. It’s great to be humble, but all of us deserve to celebrate the win.”
On why she created her nonprofit She Is the Music: “I think women are held to higher standards because we are that much more important to the human race. Women are always going to have to navigate a more difficult space because we occupy so many different levels within it, and that’s how powerful we are.”
On her female-empowering anthems: “A majority of those songs—‘A Woman’s Worth,’ ‘Superwoman,’ and ‘Girl on Fire’—were written when I was not feeling worthy. They were always songs that I needed to hear because I was going through a time when I was feeling down and needed to be reminded that this is who I am and this is what I deserve!”
On how motherhood changed her perspective: “Motherhood gave me a stronger sense of clarity. I used to be less aware of how I wanted to spend my time and more influenced by other people. After I had my kids, I felt like I had found my North Star. I was less wasteful; I worked more effectively.”
The issue hits newsstands on August 20th.

We’re all sorts of ready for new Alicia! Are you?
Her music has been so boring and lackluster lately.
She is missing Krucial Keys.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kerry_Brothers_Jr.
It’s like when Toni Braxton makes an album without Babyface.
These women need a Cream to their Peaches ? to make hits. It’s hard to find a producer that knows your voice and makes music suited to your voice. I say stick with the same producers who made u hits.
The Diary of Alicia Keys is still one of the best albums. period https://youtu.be/oMp58oVociw
Is she doing this no makeup or minimal thing? She looks so washed out. Love her music but she’s kinda ? now…
Queen of rehashing the same 1st single over and over again since No One ?
Damn Alicia! People be hating on you! I don’t get it. Smh She’s one of my favorites. Very talented and has incredible music. I have every album and love em all for different reasons. She is ?. I’m ready for new ish.??
she literally f***** up a marriage and her voice is gone….what do you expect.
It is impossible to destroy a marriage. The two that are married have to do that not her. She never could sing so I disagree her voice is gone. Voice was never there. Just custom tailored songs paid for by artists / j records for her to shout on over great productions. The instrumentals alone sound great on their own
lmaooooo a REAL iconic songwriter/singer, unlike that overrated flopped roach lmfaooooooooooooo
But when’s the last time Alicia Homewreckeys has a successful album, tour or hit?
lmaoooooo whens the last time alicia FLOPPED HARD with only 949 copies sold? lmfaooooooo #949yonce #TheFLOPPINGking
@Miss..- hahahaha @ Homewreckeys!
Im interested in the new music.
From the Hate always thrown her way whenever there is a post about her – this is yet another example of some BLACK people tearing down a SUCCESSFUL BLACK WOMAN. Like how many BLACK women artists of of her caliber of discography, writing and musicianship do we have on the scene today???? And people wanna focus on if she’s wearing make-up or not and that her sound isn’t what it was 10 years ago. SMH ??♂️ Alicia‘s accolades place her head and shoulders above other artists but people would rather focus on the negative. ?
as much as i once LOVED Alicia’s music, image & soulful sound, this article reads very pretentious & mechanical. she answers every question the exact same. instead of giving ‘poetic’, otherworldly responses, i wish she would simply tell sh*t like it is. CUT THE CRAP! Alicia can never just be blunt, abrasive & raw. EVERYTHING doesn’t have to be about the moon, the stars, women empowerment, blah blah blah! she is so totally disconnected from her fan base because she isn’t on grounded level. Im tired of it. If she ever wants to push Real album units again, she is going to have to OPEN UP FOR REAL & speak about things in very everyday, matter-of-fact, on the block, conversational tone. that’s what it is!
I miss when she had good hits….her last album was dumb as f***
She’s lost her mass appeal like many singers unfortunately : Fergie, Christina, Nelly Furtado etc.
She hasn’t been that low yet but she’s in that zone.
She has a successful catalogue that will let her enjoy her career but her peak is far gone.
She’s a real talent and I hope the new album will be good.
I’m glad Britney is not like that but if she don’t put out music then idk…but freebritney for right now
Britney isn’t as « hot » as back then.
Vegas was definitely the right move for her at this point.
We’ll see how the next album will perform, whenever she will release it… her well being is the priority. I’m not a fan but I wish her the best.
She is kind of stuck in this place where she is just plain boring and not appealing. Her first two albums were just amazing it’s a shame cause I don’t think she reached her peak for someone so talented. She just needs to stop being so robotic and this artsy-fartsy thing, women empowerment etc… It’s a snooze fest
As I Am is still one of my favorite r&b albums from beginning to end. I want to see Alicia find the right style and sound again. Her last two albums were VERY forgettable. And I wish she would be accepting of wearing makeup to accentuate her natural beauty. Use what you have to get people interested in you again.
