Jhené Aiko, Mickey Guyton, and Mary Mary may be no strangers to scoring high on R&B, Country, and Gospel charts respectively with their well-known hits, but now the trio of acts are looking to score critical touchdowns by bringing their different flavors of Black Girl Magic to the upcoming Super Bowl.
Details inside:
On Tuesday (February 1), the NFL announced Country artist Mickey Guyton will sing the National Anthem, Gospel sister act Mary Mary will perform “Lift Every Voice and Sing” (accompanied by the Youth Orchestra of Los Angeles), and R&B singer Jhene Aiko will perform “America the Beautiful” as part of the pre-game ceremonies for the Super Bowl on February 13.
Coming as the latest musical news related to the big game, the announcement follows reports of the event’s jam-packed Super Bowl Halftime Show headlined by Mary J. Blige, Dr. Dre, Eminem, Snoop Dogg, and Kendrick Lamar (as we reported here).
The selected artists are representative of the football league’s commitment to greater diversity and inclusion on and off the field, starting with the appointment of Roc Nation as the official entertainment consultant in 2019.
