Per EW, the superstar songstress has been tapped to star as the adult Nettie in the hotly anticipated Warner Bros. production. As reported, Halle Bailey will feature as young Nettie in the Blitz Bazawule-directed film – which centers on Southern life in 1900s.
Produced by Steven Spielberg and Oprah Winfrey (who were both instrumental in the 1985 original), the revival takes on the form of a musical movie and sees Fantasia Barrino lead alongside the likes of Danielle Brooks, Taraji P. Henson, H.E.R, Colman Domingo, and Corey Hawkins.
Set to begin shooting in Georgia this month, ‘The Color Purple’ – which is based on Alice Walker’s Pulitzer Prize-winning 1982 novel – arrives in theaters on December 23, 2023.
