After Nicki Minaj revealed she felt some kinda way about her inaugural Hot 100 #1 hit, ‘Super Freaky Girl,’ being booted from Rap to Pop categories in the 2023 GRAMMYs’ initial voting process, as revealed Thursday (October 13), she also suggested Latto‘s similarly styled smash – ‘Big Energy’ – be given the same energy from the Recording Academy.
And while the slick diss wasn’t given much attention at the time of its first post, Latto came in guns blazing after Minaj – her former idol – suggested the self-proclaimed ‘Queen of Da Souf’ should’ve made more of a royal fuss when ‘Super’ was given the Pop treatment.
What ensued afterward was a Twitter smackdown between the Rap divas. See it inside.

I swear if I was a rap girl coming in this industry, I wouldn’t even acknowledge her presence. In interviews, don’t ask me about her, I wouldn’t cite her as an influence etc. nothing. So, here’s the thing, nicki is almost always misunderstood.
She wasn’t beefing when she talked about her’s and Latto’s songs both being rap songs, and it wasn’t malicious one bit, but Latto misunderstood her. One would even say that Latto should have “publicly” agreed with what nicki said if she was indeed a fan as she says.
But she did it privately, and even made reference to how things ended between her and nicki -which according to the chats, wasn’t good cos nicki turned down her ft requests, three times. Thing is, nicki is always ready to fight -maybe it’s cos of how turbulent things were back in the the day, in the music industry -that is. But honestly, who wouldn’t feel betrayed when the girl that’s been claiming love, doesn’t defend you cos she’s saving her own ass.
I said what i said, Nicki is always misunderstood (no thanks to her manner of speaking -but she usually always has good intentions). Just like in hers and Leray’s case.
I’m glad people are starting to wake up and see the person Nicki has been this whole time. However, she crossed the line when she claimed that the industry orchestrates newer artists beating older artists that are “more deserving”.
