As R&B/dance commander Kelly Rowland is gearing up for a heavy promotional push of her July 26th slated ‘Here I Am’ album, the singer spoke with BET.com to address one of the week’s biggest headlines.
Famed producer Jeff Bhasker, whose production credits include work on R&B leading ladies’ Alicia Keys and former bandmate Beyonce (‘4’) albums, took to Twitter to say:

“You know what, the record speaks for itself. Opinions are like **sholes, everybody’s got one. He’s made wonderful music with my sister and other artists. There’s no reason for me to say anything negative. Cause I won’t tell you the thought that is really in my head. I’ll just kill ‘em with kindness.”
On the success of ‘Motivation’:
“Number one feels like number one. It feels wonderful. Especially for it to be on the charts so long. I think ‘Motivation’ opened up a different chapter for me. It really did.[…][The album] is along the same lines when it comes to an urban sound. When I listen to everything back to back, when I was sequencing it, that’s when it felt really good in my spirit.”
On her BET Awards performance:“I was dreaming about performing on the BET Awards stage. I would dream and pray about it. When you ask God for it , he’ll deliver. Then he wants to throw Trey Songz in it. Trey and I had really great chemistry. We rehearsed. We were prepared and excited.[…]I wasn’t expecting that kiss, trust me. I didn’t even know he did that until after. When you’re on stage and you’re moving…it was really weird.”

Since we’re being honest, I got into the song because everybody was saying how great it is.
It’s a good record but it’s not “Dilemma”, Kelly’s signature is missing. Any decent singer could have done the same job and the song would have hit #1 on the R’n’B anyway.

I don’t think the song is bad at all, I can actually relate to the appeal that others have for the song. It’s just not my cup of tea mainly b/c in general, minus a few exceptions, I’m not usually into contemporary R&B unless it has an old school or neo-soul vibe, or is mixed with some other genre like soft rock or pop. That being said I think the producer has a right to his own opinion but he should not have made his opinion so publicly. It’s just not necessary and can only generate negativity. Twitter can be such a vehicle for negativity, wish people wouldn’t use it for that purpose.

She actually came out on top, making him look stupid in the process. Even though he’s entitled to his opinion, I think the way he gave it made him look like he’s jealous of the little success that she’s having with her #1 song on the R&B Billboard charts. So, Kelly did the right thing by taking the high road. It made her come out looking classy without stooping to his level.

@BLAME, I didn’t realize he produced ‘I Care’ that’s one of my favorites from ‘4’ (it’s actually in my top five along w/ Rather Die Young, Love On Top, Party, & Lay Up Under Me). The lyrics and vocal arrangement on ‘I Care’ are very profound and impressive. He may have earned a respectable opinion but I still don’t agree with his decision to put that opinion on Twitter.

I think her response was very mature & professional. She has been in the Game since she was a teenager & is obviously well media trained so she knows how to handle herself when hate comes her way. Although, like she said, she didn’t say what she felt like saying which proves that it did bother her.
It’s funny cause the first time I heard ‘Motivation’ I liked it, but I didn’t think it would be a hit cause I thought it was too slow & a bit boring. She had been off the scene for a while & I tthought she should have went with something more uptempo, not a slow r&b ballad but I’ll admit I was wrong. No one can deny the song was a huge r&b hit & definitely put her back on the map. I think it kinda took people by surprise & now people are rooting for her again.
I do notice that people keep saying Wayne ‘gave her a hit’. *rolls eyes* It is obvious that a LOT of artist are all up Wayne’s ass for a collabroation and I do believe that a lot of people think he can get them a hit. HOWEVER Kelly carried that track! Her vocals were on point & it was just a hot song! Nothing about Wayne’s verse was memorable or stand out. Yeah he has a way of making a song hot but It wasn’t one of his best verses at all. Honestly I think the song could have been a hti without him. Kelly definitely earned her No. 1.

Kelly has had a hard as time trying to break free from Matthew Knowles/Beyonce/Destiny’s Child shadow and she’s finally doing it and now people want to start coming at her and for what. Who does not know Here I Am will not outsell 4. Beyonce is one of the top 5 female singers in the world along with Gaga, Adele, Britney and Rihanna, so why wouldn’t her album sell without promo or a hit single. I am truly shocked that Kelly hasn’t been promoting since her BET Awards performance. That would’ve been an entire month of massive promo plus the release of a 2nd single, Here I Am could be expected to push around 200K-250K next week, but now it’s only expected to sell around 100K, which is sad, because Lay It on me, Feeling Me Right Now or Down for Whatever are all great single choices. I don’t know what’s going on with Kelly and Universal/MoTown but they need to get it together.

I would add- Jeff Bhasker’s reveiw is suspect whether it came early or late given his ties to the ‘4’ album. Petty people are such a drag. News flash, there are no one and only fine artists.
