Queen of Hip-Hop Soul Mary J. Blige royally surprised her fans in October with news she was dropping a new single – the Vado-assisted ‘Still Believe in Love.’
Co-produced by DJ Cassidy and Jeff ‘Gitty’ Gitelman, the October 27-released tune serves as a reminder that the 9x GRAMMY winner is still hopeful about her romantic future despite her highly publicized losses in the arena in the past.
“Just because you see me alone, and I’m all on my own / It don’t mean a thing / Just know I can find me somebody so easily,” Blige boastfully sings. “I can’t lower my standards / I demand a guy / To treat me like the queen that I be,” she sings/
The concept is one resonating with music lovers apparently as current sales charts show the diva riding high.
Peruse of the updated Billboard R&B Digital Song Sales chart sees Mary printed at #8 – the highest rank for any new tune listed this week.
Besting the most recent sales figures attached to hits like Victoria Monet‘s ‘On My Mama,’ Chris Brown‘s ‘Sensational,’ and other top R&B hitmakers, the impressive opening marks the eighth time in Blige’s career she’s visited the top 10 of this particular tally.
The sales, albeit noteworthy, were not enough to help the tune crack the all-genre Hot 100 (primarily due to the absence of strong radio and streaming support).
‘Still Believe in Love’ comes as the first taste of new music Mary’s released since dropping the deluxe version to her GRAMMY-nominated 2022 album, ‘Good Morning Gorgeous.’At writing, it’s not been confirmed what larger body of work ‘Still’ is attached to.
