Trina may have ignited royal criticism at the end of 2023 for declaring Beyonce the “Queen of Rap” (a comment taken by Nicki Minaj fans as a subliminal shot at the Harajuku Barbie), but now the ‘Diamond Princess’ hitmaker is clearing the air around the controversial statement.
During a recent sit down with the ‘Reality with the King‘ podcast hosted by media maven Carlos King, the 45-year-old rapstress – when not discussing her enduring impact – addressed the status of her relationship with Minaj after many assumed the two were at odds following the fallout of their joint 2019 single ‘BAPS.‘

After being quizzed by King about her relationship with Minaj, Trina made it clear she does “not have a problem” with the Young Money maestro.
“I haven’t spoken to [Nicki] in a while. Probably a little bit over a year. Maybe longer … Maybe like a year or two. And I mean after my mom [passed away] honestly, I didn’t speak to a lot of people,” she said. “When [Nicki] lost her dad, I reached out to her,” she said.
Despite the lengthy time not talking, Trina insists the two are in a good place.
“I don’t have no problems with her,” she said. “Nicki’s an amazing, beautiful person. She’s an amazing, beautiful person and I always wish her the best. She’s doing phenomenal. She’s on a whole tour that’s been sold out. You can’t knock greatness and what somebody’s doing. You can’t erase the steps. You can’t take away from that no matter what. And when you look up and see it, and you like, ‘Damn, I’m proud. You deserving of this’ … My mind be on stuff like that. I’m just happy for you. You over here and I’m over here, but I’m just happy for you.”
Trina maintains people in her team caused complications for the rollout of her 2019 single with Minaj (‘BAPS’), which later left her feeling betrayed when things did not go as planned.
Long moved on from the hoopla, the Slip-N-Slide hitmaker also clarified her “Queen of Rap” crowning of Beyonce was not a slight to Nicki but more so her still enjoying the high of having recently come from ‘The Renaissance Tour.’
