Muni Long is opening up about a terrifying medical ordeal that nearly cost her life.

The GRAMMY-winning singer took to ‘Good Morning America’ on Tuesday (June 23) to reveal she underwent a double lung transplant after a severe case of pneumonia compounded by her ongoing battle with lupus.
Long recalled how her condition rapidly worsened while on tour with fellow R&B superstars Brandy and Monica in late 2025, leaving her barely able to perform before being rushed into emergency care over the Thanksgiving period last year.
Chatting with resident anchor Robin Roberts (seen above), the ‘Hrs & Hrs’ hitmaker shared:
“I couldn’t even get out of the bed to make my call time for stage,” she explained. “The last show, I just barely made it. I was only able to do two songs. My team and my family were like, ‘You just need to come home and rest.'”
Doctors later told her she only had days to live without the life-saving procedure.
“I said, ‘How long do I have to live?’ And they go, ‘A week.’ My jaw dropped,” she recalled.
Six months post-operation, Long says she’s currently “doing fabulous” and recovering well though she is still under strict medical guidance and unable to return to the stage just yet.
The R&B diva has since released her new single ‘Richest’ marking a quiet but powerful return.
