Ed Sheeran‘s ‘Loop Tour’ has been hit with another major shake-up.

For, not one but two of the superstar’s stadium shows have been abruptly cancelled, with the first axed just hours before it was due to take place.

The development comes amid an already turbulent stretch for the blockbuster trek.

Sheeran’s September 25 and September 26 concerts at Gillette Stadium in Massachusetts, have officially been scrapped due to severe weather forecasts across New England.

Tour promoter Messina Touring Group confirmed the news, citing the powerful nor’easter expected to impact the region throughout the weekend.

“Due to severe weather warnings in place in Boston and across New England, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the Ed Sheeran concerts at Gillette Stadium.”

The company stressed that safety was the overriding factor behind the decision.

The pair of shows formed part of the North American leg of the chart-topper’s ‘Loop Tour.’

The timing is particularly notable given that Gillette Stadium has sat at the center of the recent controversy surrounding Macklemore’s removal from the trek.

As extensively reported, the rapper was dropped after venues objected to his continued involvement following his pro-Palestinian remarks. Sheeran maintained that the decision was not his, while FINNEAS and several other support acts subsequently withdrew from scheduled dates.

Indeed, just yesterday Macklemore announced his own ‘Free Palestine Tour’ following the high-profile fallout.

For Sheeran, the roadshow is presently scheduled to resume in Atlanta on October 3.
