Now, in an interview for GQ Magazine’s ‘Men Of The Year’ edition, she has spoken out on how her lucrative career has made it hard for people to see or perhaps understand her art.

On how she feels she is perceived:
“Sometimes a person looks at me and sees dollars. They see numbers and they see a product. I look at me and see art. If I didn’t like what I was doing, then I would say I was committing slavery. ”
Her comments arrived before the November 19th launch of her new album ‘Unapologetic‘, and months before she embarks on the ‘Diamonds’ World Tour, no more than two years after her ‘Loud’ World Tour generated a cool $90 million upon its June 4th 2011 launch.

All the money aside it’s hard to be marketed as art the more mainstream you go.People will contrive it and no longer call you an artist because you don’t write your own songs or you don’t treat your own videos ( both ludicrous reasons considering that’s what songwriters and video directors are for but I digress) but I think in Rihanna’s case its the volume of music released in such a short span that makes people see “spoiled pop star with little to no substance” .the fans we love it! But we’ve been taught true classics take time to build (I.e Thriller, Ray of Light,Purple Rain) .in the end sadly you become a BRAND that’s just part of fame. You have all these different artists who do the same thing but someone does it better and that person has better marketing, bigger money machine,testimonials etc.you are a product in a way.
