The Weeknd‘s ‘Dawn FM’ may have marked his first album in nearly 10 years to miss the Billboard 200’s top spot upon its premiere (as we reported here), but the narrow defeat was still accompanied by a number of notable wins on the Hot 100.

Ahead of the LP’s January 7 release, the singer (born Abel Tesfaye) – with 77 career-wide chart entries to his credit – was already listed in the hit list’s history books among male vocalists with the most cumulative Hot 100 appearances.  With ‘Dawn FM,’ however, he forwarded his ranking on that all-time tally as he placed 14 of the project’s 16 tracks on this week’s singles chart (6 in the top 40 alone).

For the last five years, The Weeknd and Post Malone have taken turns dominating the musical landscape to historic measure.

Beyond record-setting album sales and chart performance, they current hold the record for the two longest-running, male-led Hot 100 top 10 hits ever – ‘Blinding Lights’ and ‘Circles’ respectively.

With so much individual success, the two are looking to double their impact by joining forces for the new song, ‘One Right Now.’  Released November 5, the 80’s electroPop-inspired cut comes as the first collaboration between the artists and sees them trade verses about using a “new toy to get over an old one.”

“You said you loved me but I don’t care / That I broke my hand on the same one that you told me that it f-cked ya up
You think it’s so easy f-cking with my feelings / I got one comin’ over and one right now, one right now,” Posty sings on the chorus.

Dua Lipa‘s ‘Levitating’ is simply the sleeper hit no one saw coming.

The song’s original edition, and later a Madonna & Missy Elliott-led remix, made little noise on the charts upon their respective summer 2020 introductions (as we reported here), but now – a year after ‘Levitating’ was officially serviced to radio as a single – the Lipa bop is one week shy of holding the record for longest running top 10 female-led hit in the Hot 100’s 63-year history!

Over its 63-year history, only 11 songs can boast spending at least 31 weeks in the Hot 100’s top 10.  Before this week, only one boasted a female lead – Country star Leann Rimes‘ gargantuan 1997 hit, ‘How Do I Live.’

That changed this week, however, after Dua Lipa‘s ‘Levitating’ rose into the ranks.

Beyoncé may have made headlines earlier this year for becoming the most awarded singer in GRAMMY and NAACP Image Awards history (as we reported here), but – thanks to the 2021 BET Awards – the diva will have to make even more room in her trophy case.

The Weeknd‘s ‘After Hours’ era is nothing short of spectacular, serving as one of the most successful albums and accompanying campaigns of the last decade.

Even before the Super Bowl and award show blitz in its support, ‘After Hours’ had already clocked one of the biggest first-week sales of 2020 and spawned two #1 hits – ‘Heartless’ and ‘Blinding Lights’ (the latter sits in Billboard Hot 100 history books as the longest-running single by a solo artist).  By mid-2021, it collected a third with ‘Save Your Tears.’

As if those accomplishments (and the many that followed) aren’t enough to boast, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) have updated certification stats attached to the era to give the star (born Abel Tesfaye) even more to brag about.

As we reported here, Dua Lipa – thanks to her enduring ‘Future Nostalgia’ smash ‘Levitating’ – was set to ascend into Billboard Hot 100 history books because the song had nabbed its whopping 20th week inside the top 10.  By doing so, it entered a historic tie with Adele and Leona Lewis for longest-running top 10 single by a British female act at the time.

Fast forward two weeks, Lipa not only broke the tie but has now extended her run – creating further distance between herself and the previous record holders.

With 23 career wins to her credit, Taylor Swift entered the 2021 Billboard Music Awards (BBMAs) as the most decorated female act in the show’s history.

Nominated for four trophies at this year’s ceremony (Top Artist, Top Hot 100 Artist, Top Billboard 200 Artist, and Top Female Artist), Swift stood the chance to extend that record – furthering the distance between herself and her nearest competitor, Adele (who boasts 18 wins to her credit to date).

Much to the delight of her fans (affectionately called #Swifties), look inside to see just how Taylor accomplished the feat.
