From The Vault is back this week with an R&B classic which certainly stood the test of time. Today’s pick is Usher‘s ‘Burn.’

The second piece of one of Pop’s most immaculate trifectas, ‘Burn’ followed monster hit ‘Yeah!’ and preceded #1 ‘Confessions (Part II).’ All three were lifted from the diamond-certified ‘Confessions’ LP, which was released in 2004.

Produced Usher’s right hand man Jermaine Dupri, the track reached the top of the Billboard Hot 100 where it reigned for 8 non-consecutive weeks – replacing ‘Yeah!’.

The definition of a worldwide smash, the cut also peaked at #1 in the UK, reached the second place of the Australian tally, and climbed to #11 in Germany.

Jake Nava was the director selected to bring the fiery song to life and he opted for a sensuous yet dramatic visual. The clip  showcases Usher and his love interest drifting apart before he drives away for a dance solo on the street.

Unfortunately Mr Raymond’s latest effort ‘Hard II Love’ found itself being exactly that commercially.

Sure it didn’t have a huge single akin to ‘Burn’ to propel it to the top of the charts, but one would think Usher’s name alone should be enough to do so.

It goes to show that “hit singles” are still a necessity in today’s “new rules” obsessed industry. Rather than trying to “out edgy” one another, we wish more artists would realize that made-for-radio (or Apple Music) doesn’t equate to inferior quality, superficial depth or lack of authenticity. Such songs, much like Usher’s ‘Confessions’ singles proved, serve as a powerful vehicle to drive to album success too.

Food for thought.

Rihanna, Alicia Keys, and Pink are just a few of the names that joined millions across the globe in solidarity for the Women’s March.

Purposefully timed to take place the day after Donald Trump‘s inauguration as US President, the rallies sought to celebrate womanhood and remind of the glaring inequalities that are still a reality. The latter being a core focus of the campaign given Trump’s sexually charged and degrading comments about women.

Beyond lending their name to the cause, the ladies rolled up their sleeves and took part.

In yet another case of “where is your publicist,” Chrisette Michele is pouring fuel on the fire that lit her up this week.

As widely reported, the R&B singer accepted Donald Trump‘s invitation to perform at his inauguration. A decision which angered and irked many who are disgusted with his publisized views on minorities and women.

Spike Lee was one of those disappointed in Michele and consequently deleted plans to feature her song ‘Black Girl Magic’ in an upcoming documentary.

Now, following a show of support from Lil Mo, the 34-year-old is responding – with a little help from her fiance.

Teyana Taylor‘s performance in Kanye West’s ‘Fade’ was undoubtedly one of the highlights of 2016 and one of Pop culture’s brightest moments.

Impressed by her moves in the visual? ‘Vogue.’

Enthralled, the fashion publication called on her to rebuild and recreate the clip for its reader to support Taylor as she seeks to inspire today’s cosmetic surgery obsessed generation to seek healthier and longer-lasting alternatives to achieving their dream bodies.

I think dancing, as far as fitness, is very underrated. Whether that’s Zumba, tap dancing, or ballet, you have to realize that this is an actual workout. Sometime this year, I want to make a DVD. For real. Most people are selfish—they’re trying to keep all their secrets to themselves. But I really want to do it to help out all of the ladies. My diet sucks. I eat pizza, fried chicken, macaroni; I don’t eat vegetables. But I dance!

Since the week of its premiere on Lifetime, Vivica Fox’s reality male stripper competition – ‘Black Magic’ – has been engrossed in controversy.

As if the hooplah around its subject matter alone didn’t ruffle enough feathers, the actress’s stinging declination to gays when asked if the show’s performer would perform “for them as well” landed her in hot water.  In fact, not only did she experience an unfortunate dragging on Twitter, but the show’s producer – Jean Claude Lamarre – condemned her comments and immediately distanced himself from her.  The ruckus encouraged her to lend an official apology via Instagram:

Interestingly, despite all the drama that’s been pit against the show since the week of it’s arrival, its ratings are still hanging tough.  See what we mean inside:

Martin Luther King day is to thank for J. Cole’s latest release.

Its name? ‘High For Hours.’

Its purpose? To reflect on what has changed and remained the same in society since the civil rights leader’s murder.

I had a convo with the president, I paid to go and see him
Thinking bout the things I said I’d say when I would see him
Feeling nervous, sitting in a room full of white folks
Thinking about the black man plight, think I might choke, nope
