New Song: Brandy – ‘Right Here (Departed)’

Published: Thursday 14th Aug 2008 by Sam
R&B songstress Brandy’s much anticipated new single ‘Right Here (Departed)’ finally surfaced a few hours ago. You can listen to the Rodney ‘Darkchild’ Jerkins produced cut below {Thanks for the heads-up Orande and Diane!} :

While not the best collaborative effort I’ve heard from Brandy and Darkchild, I am very impressed with this one….very. The beat has a serious ‘knock’ and everything from the vocal arrangements to the hook are on-point. Put simply, this song has a lot of commercial potential. Welcome, Ms. Norwood.

Brandy’s Epic debut is slated for a late 2008 release.

Liked the song but definitely way too weak to be a comeback single, reminds of TWTILY by Ashanti, people thought that was good but it tanked on the charts…Brandy get something better honey!

  9. Anonymous August 14, 2008

i like the song can wait for brandy's album and ashanti's single did not tank it was number 2 on the r&b charts and now its number 1 so go kill your self and get the facts right

  10. Miranda Priestly @ Runaway Mag. August 14, 2008

love the song, doesn't strike as comeback material but it has potential. she should get someone to jump on the track with her to seal the deal.. I think a Brandy & Kanye collabo would kick b***. his sound on this track would make millions… just my input.

  11. Rashaan August 14, 2008

I LOVE THIS SONG! I can’t wait to see her perform it live……although I loved Afrodisiac this is what was missing from the album a song where she just lets loose vocally!

I gta listen 2 this a few more times tho, IT IS UNIQUE-It is jst a sad time 4 real music tho, if u aint Rihanna, u aint gna make it-I LOVE BRANDY & will always support her, Monica, Tamia, Deborah C**, Jill Scott, Angie Stone-REAL MUSIC, its jst is hard 4 thm now-a-days tho/I WISH her luck-SHES an AMAZING artist!

  18. AaronMichael August 14, 2008

It’s such a shame that artist like Brandy and Monica who are both great singers have to strive much harder to get the recognition they deserve and all these other non-talented artist take all the lime light. Brandy has been consistent since she stepped on the scene and she aint goin nowhere. Some of these new artist could take some lessons cause in a few years from now no one will even be talking about them.

  19. tia August 14, 2008

    B-ROCKA IA BACK!!

  20. Anonymous August 14, 2008

The only people who are going to buy this single are Brandy “fans.” It has no cross-over appeal and non-Brandy fans will not buy this.

  21. Anonymous August 14, 2008

^^^HOW ABOUT U PUT YA MONEY WHERE UR MOUTH IS??

  22. Anonymous August 14, 2008

This song is a guaranteed HIT! Put on the headphones and turn it up if you think it doesn’t “knock”. Sure-fire #1. Darkchild and Brandy are definitely back 🙂

  23. Anonymous August 14, 2008

You can't really hear the beat in this YouTube post…you need to go to the Black Music First link over there ——–> and download it.

  24. Anonymous August 14, 2008

It sounds okay. I doubt I will buy the album but I hope it’ll be great..

  25. Anonymous August 14, 2008

I'll be definitely buying the album. So far we heard FALL, LIST, FIRST & LOVE, and DEPARTED. Most certainly will buy this album. NO QUESTION..BRANDY IS BACK!

  26. Anonymous August 14, 2008

Of course there is always going to be someone who has something negative to say, but i have to agree with AaronMicheal 100% cuz most of this crap out now is garbage! most of today’s songs has no substance, and most of today’s lyrics just rides off of a trend of other fads or saying which is just deplurable. Brandy knows just what she is doing, cuz i don’t think anyone can deny that this song is simply beautiful. she has taken her voice to another level, espcially with high-alto vocals that she has in this song, it just blew me away! i have never heard Brandy with such strength and range in her voice, especially since it’s been 4 years since her last album. i think she’ll do excellent on the charts and really return to the glory she once knew. a comeback song doesn’t necessarily have to have a club-banger beat (so to speak) for a first single…if it rings right and it woos enough people then you got a hit. we as people have been listening to wack music for so long that we don’t recognize great and lovely music when it’s in front of us, then wanna get mad and complain about whats out now when we had something good right in our faces….

  27. SG3 August 14, 2008

    @ Rashaan…

I definitaly agree with you. Afrodisiac was and still is my sh*t. But there was that standout track vocally that was missing, that is usally on Brandy record.

But this song is a good look for Brandy, I agree the comment about Umbrella and No One (I didn't like those songs right away)but this will definitaly grow on listeners.

This song is on a whole different level then the material that is being released. Vocally this song is amazing, production is nice, and it has crossover potiential while still not losing her fan base.

BTW I totally agree that Kanye would fit perfectly with this track.

…So now it's time for all these so called R&B female singers to step aside, the Queen is back! RESPECT!

  28. anderson August 14, 2008

I really like it, it’s very different. I am Brandy’s biggest fan.

  29. Anonymous August 14, 2008

This is a perfect first single..mad cross over potential, uplifting, love the beat and she just murders it vocally..this is my new favorite song!

  30. lewis August 15, 2008

    brandy’s back b******!

  31. Anonymous August 15, 2008

F** that…Brandy is a G an she always will be she can do NO wrong in my eyes…These Wassies an fake ass singers need to make room…….Brandys back

  32. Anonymous August 15, 2008

Now everyone knows Brandy is known for shutting the game down, and she WILL this time! Though this single IS a grower, its EXCELLENT and her amazin vocals, lyrics, and production (with none other then Darkchild) are KILLER! And I guess many HATERS here don’t know the art of emerging as an artist. Yes—Get Me Bodied and That’s Right are hot. But who says all bangers sell??? Have they emerged? HELL TO THE NO!!! I’m sick of that s*** now.
Ummm…to set the record str8, this single has a MAD crossover appeal, and will do perfectly INTERNATIONALLY! Who gives a s*** if u buy da album or not, simply because she’ll sell and make history AGAIN w/out the haters like she always does!!! That’s what a fan base is for! She deserves the respect she needs as an artist, and she’s bringin FIRE on this single AND the new album.
And finally, for those who dislike this single, go check out some of her tracks like the ballad “Fall” and the BANGER “List” and then holla back. Now tell me she’s not gonna make magic on this album??? And tell me she hasn’t grown???—–THANX!

  33. sofresh0206 August 15, 2008

i didnt like it when i first herd it i was kinda scerd lol but after listenin 2 it i love its gotta grow on u listen 2 it like 4 times

  34. Anonymous August 18, 2008

i love this song its so hott ..i can’t stop listening

  35. Dee August 19, 2008

Brandy is really shyttin on the game with this song.. madd ppl like it and she is getting madd goood reviews on the song….. Monica good luck at holding up against one of the hottest chicks in the game….. i still wish you luck.. but my Brandy is bringing the Heat.. Human… yalll what more is there to say

  36. Anonymous August 19, 2008

I liked a few songs that miss brandy has put out over the years. However, one of the things that has really prevented me from giving her much credit is her lack of vocal prowess. honestly, shes a bore vocally. Thank God for producers like darkchild who can give her a track that knocks and hides her lack of vocal ability. The R&b game right now is full of talented vocalists ie alecia keys, beyonce, Jennifer Hudson, keisha cole, why on earth would brandy come back with a track that weak as a first single? with that lead single I can't see her competing with other artist coming out in the fall ie beyonce, cira, whitney, jennifer hudson and ne -yo.

  37. Anonymous August 19, 2008

further more a first single doesn’t have to be a club banger. bed was a slow song but that took off. there are some many other slow first singles that took off. personally I currently like the new sinlge from kerri hilson energy better than I like departed the lyrics, track everything is better. Just my opinion I am a fan of neither artist just the music

  38. Anonymous August 19, 2008

    get it b rocka

  39. Anonymous September 4, 2008

WOW this is hot. I love it, love it. I want the lyrics
