Christmas has come early for Adele again.
For, one year after the release of her sophomore effort ‘21′, the project continues to show no signs of slowing down- growing fresh pair of commercial legs week by week on the United World Chart.
Legs that have seen the LP surpass sales of Michael Jackson‘s ‘Thriller‘ in the UK and outsell its own first week sales following her appearance at the 2012 Grammy Awards.
Legs, which saw it surpass worldwide sales of 22 million copies worldwide this week.

Currently perched at #2 on the Billboard 200, sales of 58,368 saw the project’s sales hit the 22 million units sold mark, with combine sales of 22,017,000 copies sold.

This extends Adele‘s lead as the highest selling act of the 21st century, and means ’21‘ has keeps a position in the US top ten, a place she has not left since the project dropped.
Here’s hoping Adele’s success will encourage labels to sign acts with a sincere passion for music, talented enough to front campaigns where the music and art takes centre stage.
Because, as we’re sure XL and Columbia will tell you, they’re reaping the rewards for pushing the album directly to the audience by touring before the album dropped, using the momentum garnered by ‘19′ to shine a light on her new material.
Material, wide reaching enough to win spins on a number of radio formats, beneficial for obvious reasons. Material, despite popular belief, that shifts units not because ‘people are fed up with what’s on the charts’ but because much like Adele herself, seems sincere.

I think many ppl of all groups purchased Adele’s CD. She is a “MEDIA DARLIN” meaning all she ever receives is POSITIVE PRESS! It’s pretty easy to sell when you’re able to just be an artist who creates for your fans without constantly having negative things said about you in the press in an attempt to destroy your band!
Ppl who would ordinarily not listen to her have been influenced by the FAKE, CONTROLLED MEDIA to give her and her music a chance. Many ppl have, thus the sells figures quoted above! If there is anything racist about her sells figures it would be that she’s basically singing SOUL MUSIC but unlike Soul artists, she receives major media support for her efforts! In the music industry, anytime a white act can “BARROW” from Black Culture and the “PTB” can profit from it, they will (see, Justin Bieber, Eminem, The Bestie Boys etc)! Don’t get me wrong, she’s a good act and I enjoy some of her music but we need to also remember the position she is in!

I agree with you. I liked Amy better too. Amy was raw, uncensored, hip, crazy. She was messy but it fit her music. I loved Back to Black. I liked her style, that huge ass behive and those 60′s dresses. Amy was awesome. Its sad drugs and alchohol killed her talents and she was never able to get herself together. Adele will have a huge hill to climb with trying to repeat the success of “21″. Its not easy and even MJ couldnt repeat the same success as “Thriller”.

well..I love Adele and happy for her success…There are other good acts out there, but they are not given radio play on any formats…Adele has become part of pop culture and 21 is the album you have to have…it’ll sell w/o promo because it’s a true classic…my main problem is with the lack of letting other different and good acts have a chance on radio….you can’t keep a healthy music industry with just one true blockbuster artist…in the 80′s multiple acts were selling 20 million plus albums…Congrats to Adele though, well deserved

I always though Amy would reign supreme as the queen of British Soul. Now that gal was a pure superstar. Anyway, im happy for her. I know shes gonna cherish this era. And its surprising how most of the albums that have sold this much, are from 2004 Confessions to early 2000s Opps I Did It Again, with most from the 90s, 80s, and 70s. Adele had to work her ass off with this album in terms of writing it, producing and recording it so it deserves all this success.

The reason Adele is selling because OLD and Young are buying her albums, stans fans, navy, hive, monsters, barbs and all are buying her albums. There are 7 billion people on earth so of DUH people are still buying her albums, use your brains.
