Mariah Carey’s ‘E=MC²’ Hits #1 On iTunes – 12 Years After Release

Published: Monday 27th Apr 2020 by Sam

With a catalogue as colossal as Mariah Carey‘s, it’s become somewhat common for the diva’s material to strut its way back up the charts.

And fresh from nabbing her 19th #1 with a festive classic, Mimi finds herself atop of another tally with her 2008 album ‘E=MC².’

Details below…

As at writing, the Platinum selling LP sits at #1 on the US iTunes store:

Originally released on April 15th 2008, the project arrived three years after epic comeback ‘The Emancipation Of Mimi.’

And while it served as the dessert to its main mail predecessor, it established success of its own – scoring Carey her 18th #1 with ‘Touch My Body.’ A track which stood as her last chart-topper until ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ finally climbed to the top of the Hot 100 last December during its 25th anniversary.

Some will cite the fact the spike was helped by a price-slash promotion, but  the clear take-aways here are to a) never count Mimi out and b) great music will always magnetise new audiences.

Check out some of our fave ‘E=MC² moments below…

I’ve only heard touch my body. BITCHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH i just listen to I WISH YOU WELL. she sings the Hell out of that record. I WISH YOU WELL – why have i NOT heard this record before. I wish you well is very gospel and the voice

    • Tone April 27, 2020

Ehhh. I liked Memoirs of An Imperfect Angel better. That album had hits.

      • Ms. Fish April 27, 2020

MOIA was such a slept on album. That album helped me through a nasty breakup?

      • Only Facts April 27, 2020

        Agreed! MOIA is soooooo underrated

  2. Terny April 27, 2020

This is Krazy! A testament to her outstanding discography. She really does have the best body of work by any artist period. #QUEEN ? #Muva

  3. IG: mixedboy April 27, 2020

This is crazy!! This is really unheard of. I love that younger audiences are discovering her albums and the shear quality, which is missing in today’s music.

  4. Martaevia La’Wayne April 27, 2020

    One INCREDIBLE album!!

  5. Jay April 27, 2020

I love to see her win!

  6. Gigi April 27, 2020

One of my favorite albums. She is the queen of music. Period.

  7. Tt April 27, 2020

Island Def Jam really messed up when they didn’t release Migrate as the second single. This album could’ve sold much more if she nabbed another number one from it.

    • Soooo Tru April 27, 2020

They were pure idiots for not following up with Migrate. Especially being T-Pain was on a roll then too. They asses selected “Bye Bye” smh.

  8. Bluebird April 27, 2020

Migrate is my least favorite. I Wish You Well is dedicated to my ex. the bitchhhhhhhhhhhh

  9. The Beysus Impact April 27, 2020

“I’ll Be Lovin’ U Long Time” is underrated!!!!!!

    • My Oh My April 27, 2020

Exactly. And the music video with TI was s*** and cool

  10. J April 27, 2020

This happens when you focus on having a legendary catalog VS following trends and releasing songs for TIK-TOK cause your in need of hit ? No Shade

    • Bogus April 27, 2020

Who’s releasing songs for Tik tok lol anybody can use a song on tik tok and make it blow up because there’s so many kids on There

  11. I love big black c** April 27, 2020

Bye bye is beautiful!!!! The album is full of bops! The label should’ve pushed migrate after touch my body. Then release bye bye during holiday season. It would’ve been another top charter for her. Also I’m that chick and for the record should’ve been singles

    • My Oh My April 27, 2020

Agreed. I love that song. It could have been a #1 hit
Mariah Carey’s “Touch My Body” blocked dethrones Usher “Love in this Club” and blocked Madonna’s “4 Minutes” of hitting #1

  12. Only Facts April 27, 2020

I hated this album aside from TMB, but congrats to MiMi!

  13. eric April 27, 2020

I didn’t like this album, but I’m still a fan.

  14. Pharcut P April 27, 2020

Should have released these in the following order.

    1. Touch my body
    2. Migrate
    3. Bye bye
    4. Side effects
    5. I’m that chick

    • MUSIC HEAD April 27, 2020

      Nope. Should’ve been:

      Touch My Body
      I Stay In Love
      Migrate
      Last Kiss
      Bye Bye

    • I love big black c** April 27, 2020

Touch my body > migrate > bye bye > I’m that chick > I’ll be lovin u long time> for the record >I stay in love

      • NextB April 27, 2020

For me, it would be :

        01 Touch My Body
        02 Migrate (feat. T-Pain)
        03 Bye Bye
04 Cruise Control -> perfect hit for a summer
        and that’s it.

  15. DLOC April 27, 2020

Arguably a better album than Emancipation ….????

  16. Hated4myopinion April 27, 2020

I’ll be loving you long time, Bye Bye, Thanks for Notthin, I wish you well … all made me cry

Touch my body, Migrate, Cruise Control, O.O.C ….were vibes

For the record, I stay in love, Love story, and last kiss… all showed Mariah’s vocal range. I love when she gives it her all in music with the iconic high notes.

Side effects and I’m that chick …give me caution vibes, she was ahead of her time and it shows now that the album is number 1 on iTunes.

Touch My body… is the album favorite of course and the video will forever be imprinted in my mind.

  17. Ropeburn April 27, 2020

Where was all this love when “Caution” came out?! Her fans paid that ish dust!

  18. Haterz Gon‘ Hate April 27, 2020

MC is a LEGEND ?? But “Touch My Body” is one of the worst songs in MC’s discography along with “Don’t Forget About Us” and “Triumphant”. I have every Mariah album accept this one as it just wasn’t IT. ‘Me, I Am Mariah’, ‘Caution’ and ‘Memoirs’ all slay this album out the park!!!! *plays”MakeItLookGood”* ??

    • Ms. Fish April 27, 2020

You will NOT disrespect Don’t Forget About Us!

  19. Nunnykirk April 27, 2020

HEAT – in my opinion is probably amongst her most underrated songs. I love it.

  20. Rashad April 27, 2020

Caution deserves this. One of the best R&B albums in years and got zero love. Lambs should do that next

  21. It’s Time to Migrate April 27, 2020

Colossal mistake not to release “Migrate” as the second single

  22. WRTW? April 27, 2020

    Migrate is still a bop

  23. Jayvee April 28, 2020

Caution also hit number 1 on Itunes when it came out. It was a fight between that and Glitter, so I think the fans did well for Caution. As for E=MC2, I agree that Migrate should’ve been released. I remember they had the fans voting for the next single and the overwhelming response was I Stay In Love that’s why it was released instead of Migrate. I love I Stay In Love but that was a try-hard copycat of We Belong Together and shouldn’t have been released.
