In a major feat for the Jaafar Jackson-led movie, the film powered its way back to #1 globally in its fourth weekend of release, pulling in another $57.7 million internationally.
To date, ‘Michael’ has grossed a gargantuan $703 million worldwide, including $421 million overseas and $282 million domestically.
The movie’s continued momentum is especially notable given that one of Jackson’s strongest global markets, Japan, has not even opened yet.
As such, industry watchers are already speculating that the Antoine Fuqua-directed feature could surpass ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’’s $911 million total to become the highest-grossing musical biopic in history.
The latest box office victory also caps off a huge resurgence period for Jackson’s catalog overall, with streams and album sales continuing to soar in the wake of the film’s release.
In other news.. Melania finished its theatrical run in North America and international markets for a $16.6 million total.
