It’s been a tough few years for R&B trier Ray J. Incessantly cast in the shadow of his sister Brandy, the singer (who turns 30 next week) briefly found success with singles ‘One Wish’ and ‘Sexy Can I’ – only to fade out of public consciousness with his releases thereafter.
Back with a new label (SRC/Universal), and the platform of VH1 reality show ‘A Family Business’, Ray today premiered the video for ‘Celebration’ – the first single to be lifted from his fifth studio album ‘Raydiation 2’.
Riddle me this. How, with a successful reality show and major label, does Ray J still find himself performing third-rate material, backed by a Blackberry-snapped video? I mean, really, a montage-based clip for your first single? No Ludacris, despite him featuring on the song? A mess.

That was beyond wack. Can’t believe the label wasted money filming this on location in Japan. This song is also so old, it’s been heard on the first season if Brandy & Ray J almost a year ago. Nobody cares about him as an artist, and his cockiness on the show doesn’t help. Just stick to reality tv dude, at least you’ve already made a decent buck doing that.

Erm i gotta be honest im kinda suprised at the hateration, i think this tune is off da chaaain!!!! serious, video looks good for a live tour vid, and a good idea to show people that he is still appreciated. Also disagree about Ray J being in the shadow, he may not have had as big a musical career but one thing to be said for him he is a hustler who has managed to keep his face and name consistant, with leaked p*** video (which also gave Kim Kardashian a career), his own reality VH1 show for the love of Ray J which had 2 seasons and it is due to the success of those shows that A Family business was even made. Also he is a very clever business man, One Wish and S*** Can I were realised through his own record label that he owns, so say what you will about him but the child ain’t broke and in a business where RnB artist have truly faded Ray J jas hustled and kept his name relevant. More Power to him, its about time we started celebrating our Black People instead of helping to bring them down!

Family Business was made due to Brandy and Ray J following the Monica model of getting your name out via a reality series and then hitting the public with a cd. There was a short interview where Ray J and Brandy mentions Monica’s model and success of her comeback cd. They saw how it worked for Monica on BET so they did the same for Vh1. It had nothing to do with Ray J’s idiotic fake ass reality dating series. Else why isnt it still on?? Cause the public knew it was fake ass from the beginning and lost interest real fast. Next.
