I hope you weren’t including trumpet in there cos he doesn’t play that very well. I think a more realistic estimate would be 4 instruments. Playing an instrument takes years of mastery which Esperanza has. I could say I play 7 too because I’ve had good experience with a great deal of them when in actuality I play 3 types of saxophone (Soprano being my main one now), Steel pans and the recorder with above average ability. I’ve blown into a trumpet too and I used to play piano but I wouldn’t count them as instruments I have some mastery in. So lets not give him too much credit.
I have nothing against him. I thought he was great in his early youtube videos, which I came across before all this hype. My sister loves him. My brother likes some of his songs and stopped wearing Supras because of him but hey? We wore them first hahaha
Esperanza is a great artist. She has mastery in both vocals and the Bass. That is what you call playing an instrument. Did she deserve best new artist? No because I don’t see her as new but they changed the rules for Gaga so let it be. She definitely deserved it over Bieber. Lets look at the category. 2 Canadians, 2 other foreigners I believe and 1 American artist from Porteland Oregon who happens to be Obama’s favourite singer. I doubt they’d give it to one of we foreigners then.
She may not be mainstream but she comes without the gimmicks. That stood out from the others in the category. Esperanza isn’t new but she deserved the award. I love her music and she truly is talented.

I’m not giving him too much credit, but the boy does have talent. He has the work ethic and the dedication, he just doesn’t have the right material. I feel people downplay what he COULD be, mainly because he’s young and his fans are mostly prepubescent girls. Now, I agree I don’t know how well he plays those instruments, but that’s more than you can say about most artists. His performances leave a lot to be desired but he has potential. And I’m a big fan of Esperanza, so I’m glad she won the Grammy, hopefully the BNA curse doesn’t affect her. Now the poor thing has to deal with Justin’s rabid fan base.

I’m a grown ass woman and i’ll admit that I love this kid lol. I took my neices to see his movie this weekend and i must say that i was suprised. This kid can play multiple instruments since he was like 3 has a great voice and he worked his ass off. They didn’t give him anything. He had no help from labels starting out so he basically went to 70-80 radio stations and just sang and played guitar and built his fan base. He deserves all his success because he’s worked hard for it. Kids everywhere should take a page from this guys book and get motivated to start doing something with their lives NOW. The people on this post who are speaking negatively about this kid should really check themselves. It’s childish and unecessary. You don’t have to like his music, lets face it, its not meant for most of you anyway. But you gotta respect what this kid has accomplished in 2 years! He’s done what most artitsts never have or will do and the ones who did it took YEARS to accomplish. Selling out Madison Square Garden is HUGE and doing it in 22 minutes???? INSANE. That makes much more sense now. I think he’s talented too. I don’t see anything wrong with his music or them cashing in on him while he’s popular.
