Taylor Swift’s #Evermore: That Grape Juice’s Top 5 Essential Tracks

Published: Friday 11th Dec 2020 by Ryan

Taylor Swift has unleashed ‘Evermore’ – her ninth studio album.

Led by the captivating ‘Willow,’ the set continues to see Swift venture deeper into the woods she first explored in ‘Folklore’ as she delves deeper into more alternative music.

That Grape Juice has been spinning the LP since its release. Join us below to find out which five tracks are essential on ‘Evermore.’

‘Tis the Damn Season

Rather than releasing a standard holiday track this year, Swift offers a neat and moving Christmas song that sees two old flames return to the town in which they meet many years ago only to end up in bed together and realize that it will not go any further.

While the plot seems ripped straight from a Hallmark movie, it is nonetheless devastating.

The winter is cold and so is the realization that some things are just never meant to be, no matter how bad they were once wanted.

One listen and it is clear to see how Swift maintains her throne as Queen of Heartbreaks.

Dorothea

A dancing piano sets the tone for this lovelorn song along with vocal harmonies that could have easily appeared on her self-titled 2006 debut album.

‘Dorothea’ tells the story a high school boy wondering if his high school sweetheart ever made it big Hollywood.

Left to wonder what could have been, ‘Dorothea’ proves that sometimes the memories are what keeps us warm in the coldest of times.

No Body, No Crime

Featuring Hiam, ‘No Body, No Crime’ is an all-out Country revenge song that results in a double murder the likes the genre has become synonymous with over the years.

Easily the spiritual successor of ‘Goodbye Earl’ from The Chicks, Swift once again proves that there is nothing she does better than revenge.

Gold Rush

For fans longing for the Pop sheen of earlier works, as in ‘1989,’ this is the closest Swift has come in some time.

Take three parts ‘Folklore’ and imbue it with one part ‘1989’ and you have the folksy-sheen of ‘Gold Rush.’

At any moment the song feels as though it could erupt into all-out Pop bombast, but instead it reels itself in, proving that sometimes subtly is the strongest weapon in Swift’s arsenal.

Ivy

What would a Taylor Swift album be without a love song? The answer is incomplete.

Swift subverts the typical love song found on her other albums for a new, more complex plot.

‘Ivy,’ tells the story of falling in love with another despite them being married and the shame that ensues.

As romantic as it is tragic, it may take more than one listen, but this track will certainly grow on you.

Another masterful work by one of Pop’s smartest songwriter.
