This week’s That Grape Juice Cover Star is Lana. The 24 year old, Houston, Texas native serves up her own rendition of Kelly Rowland‘s new Urban hit ‘Motivation’.

Though the song doesn’t call for sheer vocal horsepower, it does demand great vocal control – which Lana displayed bountifully. Perhaps not as effortless as Kelly’s version, yet solid all the same.

Good voice, with potential! She sells a lot of seduction too. If I was working with her, I’d find something that fits her range better, where she can push pass the vocals of the original song and would for the most part look more flattering for her. She has a decent tone, but she still haven’t mastered technique, yet. She was straining and reaching for some notes and I think that showed more of her weaknesses than her strengths. I do like that she seems to have a developed falsetto, but it’s hard to enjoy it when you hear a person having to go in and out of it (switching from that to singing out) and not doing so too gracefully . Kelly even struggles to do that live herself, but she does it with ease on her studio music. What I’d have prefer to hear this girl sing is Ashanti’s “Rock wit U (Awww baby)” song. It’s the perfect pace for her and the range works and the ending is great to show off her falsetto.
