Sharing the news via social media, the ‘Industry Baby’ chart-topper posted a series of pictures with the family matriarch, writing emotionally:

Shawnita’s cause of death was not shared.
In the past, Nas has been frank about how her addiction affected their relationship.
Speaking in 2019,
“I never really talk about my mom. She’s an addict so we don’t have the closest relationship. Even trying to get her better — things didn’t quite work out. But there’s still love.”
The tragic news comes after a rocky period for the performer, who has been navigating legal troubles and a stint in rehab in the wake of his naked arrest for battery. He avoided jail time and publicly disclosed his bipolar diagnosis after being granted a mental health diversion.
