Taraji P. Henson may have made it clear that Oprah Winfrey was nothing but supportive in her role as a producer on ‘The Color Purple,’ but Mo’Nique is not buying it.

As reported, Henson has been making headlines for both her stunning turn as Shug Avery in the hit film as well as her candor on the press run; specifically as relates to the pay inequality she says she faced as a Black actress in Hollywood together with the less-than-apt conditions she continues to meet on sets.

In a recent interview, the 53-year-old waxed candid about various aspects of shooting ‘The Color Purple’- including almost walking away from the film and claims that the cast was initially given rental cars to drive to set (rather than car service). She also bemoaned a lack of adequate food while shooting.

Henson shared that a call to Winfrey “fixed” many of the things she took umbrage with. A sentiment the mogul herself humbly echoed, while denying any kind of rift with Henson.

However, Mo’Nique is weighing in with a different take.

The TV icon, who executive produced the beloved sitcom was on hand at the 81st Annual Golden Globes – where he was plugging the ‘Frasier’ revival.

Naturally, we here at That Grape Juice had to quiz the trailblazer on the possibility of ‘Girlfriends’ following suit.

Speaking candidly, Grammer revealed to TGJ’s Shar Jossell that plans are already in motion.

Confirming that “we’re already kicking around ideas,” the 69-year-old expanded on what a return to ‘Girlfriends’ could look like 20 years on.

Anchored by Tracee Ellis Ross (Joan), Golden Brooks (Maya), Jill Marie Jones (Toni), and Persia White (Lynn), the show centered on the lives, loves, and losses of four friends.

As widely known, the series (which was created by Mara Brock Akil) was brought to an abrupt end after 8 seasons in 2008 amidst the writing strike at the time and as its housing network (The CW) moved in a different direction.

In the years since fans have continually called for a reboot of ‘Girlfriends’ – with Akil making clear that she would be up to heed the request if the right price was attached to the production.

As reported, the cast reunited for a surprise stint on ‘black-ish’ in 2019.

Here’s hoping there’s more to come from the ladies as a collective in the near future.
