Mariah Carey is back and sounding better than she has in a long while!

The superstar chanteuse kicked off her eagerly anticipated Las Vegas show ‘The Butterfly Returns’ last night at The Colosseum, Caesars Palace and was in fine form.

A musical and visual extravaganza, the residency serves as Mimi’s second on the iconic Strip following a two-year run with ‘#1 To Infinity’ at Caesars Palace.

This series is perhaps most notable for being her first live show since parting ways with her former management regime, signing with Roc Nation, and battling back to better health – mentally, physically, and vocally.

Based on pics and clips from the evening, attendees are in for a treat from the singer, who belted out classics such as ‘We Belong Together’ and ‘Emotions,’ as well as fan-favorites like 91’s ‘Can’t Let Go.’

Azealia Banks has finally unwrapped her new single ‘Treasure Island.’

Teased in earnest, the track is the latest to be lifted from her upcoming project ‘Fantasea II: The Second Wave’ – which is touted as being “due soon.”

The set serves as the sequel to her premiere mixtape ‘Fantasea’ and will also stand as her first album release for indie imprint eOne.

A buoyantly bouncy jam, the track uniquely arrives on YouTube ahead of its roll-out on streaming platforms next week.

In fierce fiery form, Banks makes clear that she is the treasure island:

“Hips roll slow like the waves on the low tide
The shoreline, you’re all mine
Ugh, n*gga I done gave you the co-sign
The pussy so good n*ggas call it a gold mine
The coin shine is something I might like
The sea queen gave you an invite.”

The first cut samples the classic Wu-Tang song ‘C.R.E.A.M,’ and features a shout out to supermodel Bella Hadid.

While on ‘Snow Trip,’ Iggy attempts a redeaux at the Ying Yang Twins iconic ‘Whisper Song.’

The two new songs are hatchlings from her forthcoming EP ‘Surviving The Summer,’ which arrives August 3rd.

As always, Azealia Banks is the conductor of controversy on on social media.

After her raptress rival Nicki Minaj shared a teaser of her upcoming video ‘Bed,’ laying on a beach clad with a mermaid tail and a green wig, Azealia ignited a firestorm of tweets accusing Minaj of duplicating her signature style — and also slammed her for poor execution.

Cardi B is reassuring fans that ‘Who Want Smoke,’ her recent collaboration with Offset and Lil Yachty, is NOT a Nicki Minaj diss.

Despite featuring lines like “This attention is so flatterin’ ’cause they’re admirin’ / Don’t know what’s on their mind but it should be retirement / Get the AARP or this AR get to firin” and “These bitches is 0-3 / And there ain’t a lower league, all in my ovaries / The fur on my shoulder mink / Tell me what Hov would think,” the ‘Invasion of Privacy’ rapstress is saying the accusations are misguided.

The self-proclaimed Puerto Rican princess has a few words for the self-proclaimed Queen of Rap!

Despite failing to detail what the true catalyst was, Joseline Hernandez (rapstress/reality TV show star) took to Instagram earlier today to lay a royal read on fellow rapstress Nicki Minaj.  First making headlines for agreeing with an Azealia Banks slam that suggest Minaj was a copycat, Hernandez took things a step further when she directly called the Grammy-nominated Young Money star out for an implied betrayal.

Just over a year-and-a-half after embattled songstress Kim Burrell lost several endorsements and was shunned by both gospel and secular communities for comments deemed “homophobic” during a sermon (click here to read), fellow gospel singer Kierra Sheard may be well en route to such fate.

The 31-year-old, famous for rendering nearly 15 years of her own gospel hits and being the daughter of Clark Sisters‘ legend Karen Clark Sheard, recently rubbed fans the wrong way when she suggested homosexuality was the direct result of “victimization” (i.e. molestation, etc.).  Needless to say, the assertion did not go very well.  As fans, followers, and more have been taking her to task on social media all day, the blaze has only grown higher as the story makes its rounds.

Could Kiki be well on her way to backlash?  Hear her words inside and weigh in:

Readers of That Grape Juice know what avid music lovers we are – especially of hits past.

So, just as our retrospective features ‘From the Vault’ and ‘TGJ Replay’ allow us the chance to re-spin the gems and jams of yesterday of one artist, our newest feature Chart Rewind – a variation of our current Retro Rewind assay – accedes salutes to an entire era of music history.

This week we’re looking back to Letoya Luckett‘s official debut solo single, ‘Torn.’  The lead offering from her self-titled debut album (click here to read our full length ode to the project), the Teddy Bishop-produced tune – which famously samples The Stylistics’ 70’s classic ‘You Are Everything’ (also found aboard Mary J. Blige‘s 1997 hit ‘Everything’) – came as quite the sleeper hit for Luckett.  Easily the underdog after watching the likes of her former Destiny’s Child bandmates rise to varying levels of Billboard 200 and Hot 100 success, the cut – released in March 2006 –  eventually found itself in mention with their releases by summer 2006.

Making its way to a #31 peak this week that year, ‘Torn’s true crowning glory was its success on the R&B charts (rocketing to a peak of #2 there).  Both chart achievements remain Luckett’s career bests (to date).

Look inside to see who joined her in the top 40 this week 12 years ago:
