Pop star Christina Aguilera is prepping a return to the charts with new single ‘Not Myself Tonight’, the official first single to be lifted from her forthcoming LP ‘Bionic’. The cover for the single was accompanied by a message from the Aguilera’s team on her official site, promising fans that every day this week will bring a new surprise from the Grammy winner. A counter clock promptly went up. Exciting stuff.
About the cover…I’m not feeling it. As should always be the case though, it’s the music that counts, hence I’ll reserve any kinda judgement until hearing / seeing what Ms. Dirrty has up her sleeve. In the meanwhile…

I have been lloking forward to some new music for a very long time from her. I hope she kills it wit this album. Her last album was a bore. But kuddos to her for trying something new with that album. My favorite album is Stripped. That was a 5 star album, hope this one equals that for 2010!

Black, when Lady Gaga can sell 30 million+ worldwide, be critically claimed by not only critics, but fellows artist, & long time LEGENDS themself, & be relevant longer than 1-2 years, then you can get at Christina. Other than that, Gaga is just another “It” Girl, that is living in the moment. I don’t like the cover, but I love Christina & her music, Can’t wait to hear what the song sounds like. That is all.

I am glad that Christina is coming back who cares about image this girl can REALLY SING!!! and her music is always original and a bit different, she mixes different styles to appeal to a wide audience. Also why must we always compare artists, Christina was there long before GaGa and isn’t nearly every pop female inspired by Madonna, she set the template and the standard in the first place. I look forward to hearing the new material and watching her blow up the charts once again 🙂

I actually don’t think that Christina’s trying to copy Madonna OR Gaga. In fact, people are only comparing her to them because Gaga’s relevant right now, Madonna’s been relevant for years and its mostly the fact that Christina’s a platnium blonde. If it wasn’t for that, and a couple of other simple factors, there would be no comparison. I’ve always been in love with Christina and I’ve been patiently waiting for her to release something for a WHILE now, honestly. I don’t know..Do you think that she can catch up with where music is going right now?
I think that Christina’s chances for a come back stop at a 50/50 mark.
A couple of years back, I’m not quite sure if she dominated the charts necessarily, but I know that her singles off of her last album kept ricocheting around pop culture like wild fire because she brought some ‘soul’ back into pop music. As for Christina’s current look – I haven’t heard the single yet, but basing on the promotional cover alone, I think that anyone trying to compare her to Gaga is foolish. Christina was always the kind of person who would dramatically ‘warp’ her look depending on her experiences and would have the cojones to show it in her music, videos and performances.
For example, does anyone remember the radical change from the Genie In A Bottle – look to the Dirty – Look, the Gothic – Look and the 50’s throw back – Look? She’s always been changing her style to fit the mood of where she is psychologically. She isn’t copying off of anyone because she’s always stayed in her own zone. I actually don’t remember seeing ANYONE who was trying out that ‘gothic’ look when she introduced it after she released Beautiful back in 2003, I believe?
I think that we just need to give a couple of people in this thread a few muzzles and let Christina do her thing. She’s been floating in and out of the music game for a while now and every time she comes back into it, she comes back with something new and original. I think that this is just the next stage of who she is. Then again, does anyone TRULY know how she’s going to artistically shape herself for this new album right now?
