Peep this performance of former Pussycat Doll Melody Thornton taking on Christina Aguilera’s chilling ballad ‘Hurt’. With talent like that, no wonder Ms. Thornton couldn’t but vent at the fact she was consistently over-shadowed.
Melody may need to exercise more vocal control, but it’s hard to deny she was the superior vocalist in the group. I can never understand why labels believe that the Diana Ross-Supremes model (one singer, the rest back-up’s) is still ‘in’. Surely giving everyone some form of individual shine (even if not the same amount) helps broaden the group’s appeal, hence increasing their fan-base, and ultimately increasing what is the exec’s primary concern – money! Same goes for the handling of Destiny’s Child, but that is a different story altogether…

Christina does not have a 6 octave range. Keep dreaming, she struggles with her high notes, low notes, runs and technique and she hasn’t even proven her studio range live. All those women you named are more vocally gifted than Christina.
On to the video, it was nice. But, it’s Christina’s warm tone that makes the song, but good cover, nonetheless.
ok melody can sing but nicole scherzinger was always the better pop singer in the group, Melody should have got more parts but she would have never been able to lead as nicole is a better dancer n singer n naturally better looking.

DanBofficial, you’re a f****** idiot. Hitting a note in the 6th octave does NOT mean you have a six octave range. Vocal range is defined by the difference between your highest and lowest notes and if you can sing all the notes in between. Christina’s range is from C3-C7 studio, which means she has a four octave range. You #FAIL

She has potential
The difference between DC is that BEyonce had model looks and a voice to match. She had the superior vocals of the group.
Kelly had her good days but most of the time even now she is off key pitchy and has problems controlling her voice. Michelle was good but her tone wouldn’t have appealed to the masses.
And one more thing, BEYONCE WAS THE LEAD SINGER BEFORE MATHEW EVEN BECAME THE MANAGER. I HATE THAT PEOPLE ACT LIKE SHE WAS ONLY THE LEAD BECAUSE OF HIM WHEN IN FACT THE PREVIOUS MANAGER PICKED HER AS LEAD.

And to Sam about the group reference, I think the difference between The Supremes/PCD and DC is DC actually had their best singer as the lead singer, as opposed to The Supremes and PCD who just had the most marketable (prettiest) singer as their lead. Not gonna lie, I did prefer Kelly’s voice at times more than Bey’s because Kelly’s voice reached it’s peak very early. In addition, if deciding the lead singer was strictly about ‘looks’ and just a decent, more marketable voice for DC then LeToya may have been the best contender at that time rather than Beyonce to some.

She has a really good voice, Kelly Rowland can sing really well. She does not for the most part sing off key. I would’nt say Beyonce’ has a superior voice, by todays standards may’be. She’s good but thats it. Christina can blow, and she sangs very well. Her sanging is the way she sangs.
Nicole has a great voice to me, she can sing Opera as well. Her technique is good.

@ sarah … u are correct… 4 at best is xtina’s range. The modern Piano has 7 or 7.5 octave note range and she can not sing the width of a piano from bass to whistle notes. Singing up to a note in the 6th octave does not mean u have 6 octave range. Range is from ur lowest to highest note. Middle C is called C4…. so from C4 up to C6 is Two octave…. from C4 to C2 is 2 octaves down and I know she can not sing in Barry White’s vocal range.
