That Grape Juice A&R: Janet Jackson’s New Album

Published: Thursday 29th Dec 2011 by David

Without a doubt, recent years have seen the world find itself falling back in love with Pop icon Janet Jackson.

From her acclaimed roles in many a Tyler Perry movie to the positive press her Number Ones: Up Close And Personal world tour has garnered, her oft debated public image seems to be back on track following the misfortunes that were  ‘20 Y.O’, ‘Discipline’ and of course- the ‘Superbowl’ incident.

Now, as 2012 approaches, there are many Janet fans who have been left wondering if the coming year will see the arrival of a brand new album from the performer, and just what demographic that album will be geared towards.

Now’s the chance to let Ms. Jackson know what you’re thinking.

Confused?

All will be revealed below…

Listing 12 songs from any genre or period of music from any artist out there, we want you to create the ultimate Janet album, made up of cuts you feel would further cement her status as Pop’s reigning innovator.

Perhaps you feel Britney’s  ‘Womanizer is just the vibe she needs to secure her a #1 single or is Everything But The Girl’s ‘Missing the sound she should be going for if it’s critical acclaim she desires.

It’s completely up to you.

If you’re feeling extra bossy why not tell us how you would promote the album and how you’d ensure it generates sales figures worthy of competing with the likes of  ‘Control′ and ‘Rhythm Nation 1814‘.

Who knows? Someone from Camp Jackson may see your ideas and pass them onto her.

Get creative below!

Sam, your A&R usually raise great points, but this is Janet, Miss Jackson if your nasty we’re talking about hear. She’s always going into the studio challenging herself, and putting out bomb as music (“Discipline” is extremely underrated”). Let her do her. She got this 🙂

  2. samantha December 27, 2011

Damita Jo was far from an embarrassment. your doing too much

  3. Riconic (Rihanna + iconic) December 27, 2011

While the Beyonce and Madonna fans ready to come here and hate. Heres my tracklist.

    1. Madonna- Human Nature
    2. Ciara- ‘Get Up’
    3. Janet- ‘Make Me’
    4. Janet – ‘Rock Wit U’.
    5. Janet- ‘That’s The Way Love Goes’.
    6. Justin Timberlake – ‘I Think She Knows’.
    7. Ashanti – ‘Happy’.
    8. Janet- ‘Someone to call my lover’
    9. Keri Hilson- ‘I Like’
    10. Adele- ‘He Won’t Go’.

Notice how i didnt name any Beyonce songs, thats because janet unlike Beyonce is original and would NEVER record anything remotely similar to that fraud.

  8. QueenOfTheHive December 27, 2011

    Beyonce a fraud?
    Janet iconic?
    What s***!
Janet has been aflop since 2006 since she hated on Bey during her interview with angie martinez and allowed her midget lover to talk s*** saying ‘Bey and janet aint in the same plane’.
Yas jeramine! you were right, cos while Beyonce’s plane is flying sky high, janet’s plane is actually a tour bus, touring any city stupid enough to pay to see her perform on a stage small enough to make Gary Coleman feel superior.

  9. Nana Yaw December 27, 2011

I love Janet but truth need to be told; The girl just can’t sing! I hate her whispery voice. She is just like Ciara. Dancing is where their strength lies.

  10. Comebacktome December 27, 2011

First time on this site and i see that the rihanna and beyonce fans run this.

Shoutout to the Navy, but the Hive can kiss my choreographed booty.

You b****** really think Beyonce will ever match Janet’s run when she can’t even release one risky album without it flopping.

Janet idolizes creativity, good living and her fan, Beyonce idolizes her husband, stealing ideas and her fans (when she has an album to promote)
Janet has COVERED every issue there is for an artist to tackle while Beyonce cant seem to get off talking about how much she loves her man, how much she hates her man and how much she loves herself once establishing that she hates her man.

One is an icon. One is a copycat hooker whose daddy bought her her grammys’. LMAO- she only got one nomination this year for a single that didnt even make it into the top 40.

  11. BeyHave December 27, 2011

loool. i actually like janet but since we’re spilling tea.

    1. Janet cannot sing- whipsering is for those who like to keep secrets- NOT singers.
    2. Janet’s most defining moment is having her tits exposed INTENTIONALLY on tv, Beyonce’s is performing at the inauguration for the first black president. You mad?
    3. You have the cheek to call Beyonce repetitive when Janets been telling us that her nickname was donk since the early 80s
    4. Jayonce were together before Janet and Jermaine got together and are STILL together after. Janet is a serial ho who jumps from man to man. BEYONCES been with the same man since the turn of the millenium.

    5. Beyonce can sing and dance, Janet only knows what Abdul taught her. Beyonce can learn EVERY style.
    6. Beyonce would never abandon solange in the way janet abandoned latoya in the 90s.

All the above points prove that Beyonce is queen.

  12. JohnVidal December 27, 2011

Here we go again! This is about Janet Jackson, even if I don´t care for her that much why can´t you all stick to the subject (cos the girl is important enough) and leave teh repetitive Beyonce-Rihanna war for their posts.
Although I have to say these posts TGJ usually does lately are totally useless. Who´s next? Mariah and Madonna´s new albums? People choosing those huge stars new directions? Are you serious?

  13. B Lamont December 27, 2011

To put this back on track….(all the Bey, Rhi, Madge hating is so ridiculous)

Janet is Janet, she doesn’t need to create a gimmick to have a #1 single. The fact is that Janet is in her mid 40s and POP music, hell music in general is AGEIST. You can see it happening with all artists over 40, not just Janet. If Janet creates new music, then it should be whatever she truly feels in her heart to sing, not the latest trend. She tried that with Discipline and while Feedback and some other songs really bump, it wasn’t the best move. My wish and advice is for Janet to create music with a message and purpose, something that uplifts the soul and has a great melody and beat. Anything from Control to Damita Jo…have an all inclusive album like she’s done in the past (R&B, Pop, Hip-Hop, Rock, Inspirational). That’s the music that did well for Janet and I believe it will do well for her in the future.

My only other advice is that her camp/record label release the new single on iTunes and all other formats the same day they release it to radio. One of the main problems with Feedback was that they waited far too long to release the digital single…by the time it was released people already had ripped the song and didn’t buy it.

Lastly, my list of songs that she should keep in mind are only Janet songs cuz no other artist matches her caliber and versatility:

    Feedback (club banger)
    Make Me (happy and fun)
    Together Again (inspirational)
That’s The Way Love Goes (classic)
    Anytime, Anyplace (sexual)
I Get Lonely (pure R&B fire)
What Have You Done For Me Lately (statement song)
    Lonely (heartache)
    Miss You Much (fun Pop)
    If (rock/pop)
What About (rock/pop with a message)
    You Ain’t Right (edgy)

  14. pat December 27, 2011

even if u think Janet can’t sing……that’s really not relevant…most hit makers today cant (britney, rihanna, j lo. need i say more)………however, janet is her own competition, not beyonce ( remember she was in matthew knowles boot camp studying janet tapes and dance moves on the deck in the back yard)

i just hope janet lays off on the s** talk on the new album and give us dance records like only she can

    btw…i love her voice

JANET IS A LEGEND…SHE HAS CLASSSICS!!

But In This Generation, I Dont See It For Her…

And This How Janet vs. Beyoncé Thing Is Silly

Beyoncé Has Always Looked Up To Her
& Janet Has Said In The Past She Respects Beyoncé & Destiny’s Child

And you didn’t put any Rihanna’s song either, which is quite “Ironic”. How about you change that name to RIRONIC?

Back to the subject, Janet can’t do no wrong at this point of her career.

Pop, r’n’b, electro, disco, rock, she can do whatever she wants to do. She’ll be just fine. Fine, Fine, Oooh!

  17. brotha1461 December 27, 2011

Janet knows what she can do as a singer we can talk about singing all we want it is what it is…Singers are all the same thats why Bee doesn’t want to take a break because the music industry is just that she would become as forgettable as the rest thats the world we live in …leave music for a time and loose out…

  18. AnonymousBunny December 27, 2011

Ummm First off Janet is Janet[ dubbed FIRST ICON by MTV] and betonce is beyonce. Im a much bigger Janet fan because she always has some social recognizable concepts to her lyrics. she has been in the business for 30plus years and is every bit as relevant as beyonce. whether she is singing or dancing making movies or commercials. beyonce looks up to Janet and recognizes Janet as her role model. idk how you can compare the two they are good in their own rights. but in all honesty beyonce is just living in the house that Janet helped build. why yall throwin shade on Janet. just cause she doesnt have fans all up in her personal life doesnt make her any less relevant. Janet is just as good a singer as beyonce. just cause Janet isn’t screaming and yelling to reach her notes doesnt make her any less of a singer. personally I think that because Janet’s voice is so soft it add to the emotional appeal of her ballads. yall can beg to differ all you want but this is just my own personal opinion. they both respect each other as artists and yall should respect their individual careers as well.

  19. Stoney-Brie December 27, 2011

    I love Janet Jackson’s voice! she’s a blueprint!

I agree to disagree that Beyonce’s name should be put in the same line with Janer when it comes to iconic, creativity and writing.

  20. Edgy_Timeless December 27, 2011

    Wynter Gardon- In the morning
    Wynter Gardin- Buy my love
Cheryl Cole- Fight for this love
    Janet- Throb
    Janet- Rock With You
    Kylie Minogue – the one
    Janet- Discipline
    Janet- Come and get up
    Chrisette Mitchele- Im a star
    Janet- Together Again
    Janet- I get so lonely
    Janet- what about

I wouldn’t say Discipline was an embarrassment, more like 20YO were. Discipline was actually good and up to date. Sales wise not soo much. Now notice I added more Janet tracks then others. In other words, Janet music is already good enough. She just need a lil eletric pop sound of today to compete. R&B wise, Janet don’t need to change not 1 thing as she is the Queen for that. However nxt album, we need to hear that voice of hers, so she can have ppl snapping their necks like whoa, that was Janet. Damita Jo unreleased tracks were a perfect example of how good we would hear Janet and her vibe. As for promotion, if she can get the same promotion she got now without a album then she’ll be good.

  21. David December 27, 2011

Janet need to go full ledge R&B/Jazz with this album. She is now mature and experience a great deal of break break. We need to have a very personal album. Something that tells a story. We know she can dance/entertain but now we need to know her personally. She can have one or two up tempos but there is no need to compete with the younger generations of female acts. She need to separate herself sharply and create a new identity which will stand out. Most of her audience she grew up with is now in the late 30’s to mid 60’s. She need to target that audience while still staying relevant.

  22. Theman December 27, 2011

Beyonce aint got nothing on Janet. Janet uses her soft voice effectively. Her music, her artistry, vision and choreograpy is on a completely diferent level than that of beyonce. Beyonce fans have no knowledge about real music outside of her anyway alot of them for the most part…

  23. Michelle December 27, 2011

Wow at some of these comments. I LOVE Janet but I also dont hate Beyonce. But facts are facts and opinions are opinions. All I see are opinions and little facts written.

For the person who said Janet is like Ciara actually that’s vice versa. Ciara is the one that copies Janet not the other way round. Janet along with Madonna and others paved way for these so-called “legends” of today.

As for the Beyonce debate, she is NOT as versatile as Janet. I just dont and havent see her do any other style like Janet’s Rythym Nation routine. She is getting sued left and right for stealing peoples ideas. Even Etta James had something to say about Beyonce singing her iconic song at Obama’s inaugration. I just want people to please watch some videos of Janet and her achievments and her work.

Beyonce is a good entertainer but Janet is iconic. She’s 45 and still going strong. Bringing both Beyonce’s and Janets personal life to judge how good they are as entertainers is irrelevant. It’s all about their work and in this case Janet is on top. Period!

  24. skintightjeans December 27, 2011

Please stop comparing Janet to others. There is no comparison. she’s in a class by herself. Kinda like Madonna or Tina Turner or any other artist that is standout. And to the dumb ass up top talking about Janet hated on Beyonce. Shut up. She has said in countless interviews that she is a huge fan of Beyonce and admires her. Ya’ll so stupid on here always trying to pit artist against artist and fans against fans. Get ya’ll booty shorts out your tight asses and go sit the f*** down somewhere!

  25. Stoney-Brie December 27, 2011

    Janet*

  26. David December 27, 2011

I think Janet Jackson needs to go back with Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis!!! They know her better than anyone else in the game right now!!!!

  27. Nana Yaw December 27, 2011

    @Stony-Brie where have you been?

  28. Onyx December 27, 2011

I don’t need to make a list songs from other musicians to her, leave that for Beyonce, Janet has her own style, her Music and voice are unique, she doesn’t need to make a song ala Britney or Madonna theres a lots Wannabes out there, we don’t need a Legendary Artist like Janet to copy similar sounds from others, she just have to work with the people who make her The Queen that she is today, what’s next a post about what kind of songs Madonna or Christina should sing on their new albums, this is beyond ridiculous. Her name speak for herself Janet Jackson.

  29. David December 27, 2011

Some of the children on this blog can not stick to the topic on hand..ugh..

  30. David December 27, 2011

How did Beyonce make it into this Post. Ugh. Janet is janet and Beyonce is Beyonce. Beyonce looks up to Janet and Janet admires Beyonce.

  31. D December 27, 2011

JANET IS DOING SOMTHING VOCALLY JANETS VOICE IS EVERYTHING. JANET HAS MANY COLORS TO HER VOICE I CAN LISTEN TO IT FOR 25 YEARS JANET IS SO ITMATE WITH HER VOICE AND HER, ANYTIME ANY PLACE WHEN WE OHH OOH BABY SOMEONE TO CALL MY LOVER, FUNNY HOW TIME FILES, ROCK WIT YOU, I GET SO LONELY, FEELS SO RIGHT NOTHING, THIS CANT BE LOVE, ANYTHING SOMEDAY IS TONIGHT, LONLY, WHEN I THINK IF YOU WOULD YOU MIND, BODY THAT LOVES YOU AGAIN. MOIST WARMTH. SOO MANY CUTS, WITH QUAILITY PRODUCTION. PEOPLE NEED TO KNOW THAT JANET GOT A SURPREME POP VOICE THAT CAN MELT PERFECTLY INTO AND GENRE OF MUSIC I DONT LIKE BEE’S VOICE ONLY ONE TIME PERFORMANCES SHE DOES BUT BEE DONT HAVE A POP VOICE WITH CLASSIC MATERTIAL BEES VOICE IS ANNOYING AFTER A WHILE. AND THE MUSIC IS NOT THERE. JANET VOICE WORKS WAAAAAAAY BETTER IN MUSIC. NOW BEE CAN SING N A MINUTE IN 30 SECS BUT THE DOGG VOICE IS NOT WORKING. JANET IS NOT CONSIDERED A SANGER CAUSE SHE NOT LOUD, BUT JANETS TONE IS VOICE IS SIMILAR TO MICHAEL JACKSON IF HE CANT SING JANET CANT SING. PLUS JANET BEEN IN THE GAME FOR 38 YEARS IF JANETS VOICE SUCKS WE WOULDNT CALL HER ALBUMS CLASSIC BEES NEVER HAD A CLASSIC ALBUM YET. 32. Keith December 27, 2011

AMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! to this: “My wish and advice is for Janet to create music with a message and purpose, something that uplifts the soul and has a great melody and beat.” I also agree that Jam & Lewis could create that record – perhaps with a little assist from Darkchild for the clubs. Perhaps they should dust off some of the tracks that didn’t make the cut from 1986 – 2004…..

  33. Royalkev December 27, 2011

Enough with the Beyonce comparison’s made to every artist that came before her. Bey’s made a name for herself and her and Janet are very much apples and oranges (both delicious fruits btw). Janet doesn’t need to sing songs that other artist have made popular. She has a very unique voice, like Brandy. They need songs drawn up from scratch, made especially and preferrably for them to sing ONLY. I do believe Janet should do a solid Pop/R&B/Rock album and leave all the dance music alone. I think that audience is her main fan base. She should keep things erotic, but just narrow it down a bit to only a few moments on the new album. Also, like someone stated earlier it’s best to release new singles to itunes as soon as the song debuts. Still, Janet doesn’t have anything to prove. She has 30 years in the business, so any talk of her ever being a flop is a fail!

  34. MissImpartial December 27, 2011

I don’t get the point of these posts as the artists aren’t going to take notice of any of our suggestions.

Anyways I think Janet needs to hang it up she is not making any impact on the charts since 2001. I am not hating but stating the obvious.

  35. JohnVidal December 27, 2011

    @onyx
yeah madonna, Mariah and Xtina are the next ones. These posts doesn´t make sense. Like choosing songs from others? Why exactly? If we are talking about some huge megastars?

  36. timz December 27, 2011

She shouldn’t release an album. Noone is here for her.
She cant singso noone is goingb= to be interested but her die hard fans. You’re going to say britney and rihanna cant sing well they are young and relevant so people are still looking for them.
Janet needs to rest on her laurels, do a few shows every once in a while and act. I doubt any album she releases will do well

  37. Nate December 27, 2011

Just you wait and see oh wise prophet!^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

  38. Remey December 27, 2011

Yes, Janet is a legend. However, she needs some good promo to get her back on the scene. I love Janet, but I tend to forget about her because she’s not a force like she use to be. She should do the following:

    1. Get a buzz single out and perform at a big event or awards show. Over the past couple of years, people have come to expect old material from Janet. When I see her, I never expect something new….just old material.

    2. Build up hype for new music with promo. Let’s get cracking Damita Jo! She never does any heavy promo. She hardly does interviews. She rearely does talk shows. Nutrisystem has been the first endorsement she’s done in years. Push the promo train in several realms….

    3. Have a platform. Artists that have been away for a while can have a hard time getting back to the mainstream because the game has changed so much while they were gone. Therefore, having a platform can do wonders. Xtina and The Voice will no doubt help her career. American Idol helped J.Lo as well. It doesn’t have to be a show, but something to jumpstart familiarity. Maybe another movie? NOT A TYER PERRY PRODUCTION!

  39. @Legendarybec December 27, 2011

This is About JANET… Not BEYONCE Damn!!! Stop The STAN Wars

  40. Jessica December 27, 2011

Growing up listening to Janet and got all her albums 1982-2008, I think Janet should do a social issue album again like Rhythm Nation or Velvet Rope vibe. Not this ” sing like Madonna”, “sing like Beyonce”, “sing like Britney” NO!!! SHE DID WELL OVER THE PAST 30 + years!!! Yes she should work with Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. 1. When all 3 of them work together, it’s gold. 2. They know her style

Why people talking about Beyonce in this post?? THIS POST IS ABOUT JANET!!! Don’t get me wrong, Beyonce is alright but not there yet, still a long way to go, Beyonce needs to find her own nitch, then go from there, she is going in the right direction by owning her own production company, but at the end of the day, her and Janet are in a different league, point blank, so little kids stop thinking that Beyonce can out run Janet, that is a full of laughs right there!!!

@QueenOfTheHive: Are you that miserable that Janet been out for 30+ Years and have done everything and you haven’t? Beyonce is not giving two shits about you, LMAO!!!

@Nana Yaw: Have you been to her live concert?? Most likely you have not, so your info saying all she does is whisper is misinformed information, you really need to get your ears checked. SMH.

Anyways, when Janet drops an album with a buzz single, I will be pre-ordering that album.

  41. Shatter696 December 27, 2011

IF I was not for JANET!
NON of these knock off-copy cats. Would have a career!

  45. socialstudy1 December 27, 2011

I love Janet and love all of her music. I’d like to hear her put out an upbeat/ club banger album with a couple of baby making tracks. It would be cool to hear her work with Usher, Swizz Beatz, Nicki Minaj, Eve, Missy Elliott, Rico Love, David Guetta, etc….. I want the album to get Janet dancing again.
I’m sick of people always trying to compare other artists to one another. Janet is Janet, Beyonce is Beyonce, Nicki Minaj is Nicki Minaj. Just let them be that, ….themselves, and appreciate them as individuals. Janet has done and accomplished things that Beyonce, Rihanna, Ciara, haven’t. At the same token, they’ve done things Janet hasn’t, but they’re all talented.

  46. LAX December 27, 2011

    JANET JACKSON >>>>>RIHANNA Entire career

and i agree with you socialstudy1

  47. Expensive Hooker December 27, 2011

1.) ESCAPADE (BUZZ SINGLE TO CATCH FIRE) Massive Electro-80’s Pop record

2.) THAT’S THE WAY LOVE GOES (JANET’S BIGGEST SINGLE) 90’s R&B/Pop/Dance record.. Nominated for Best R&B Song at the Grammys 2013

3.) ALL FOR YOU (JANET’S LAST SINGLE TO TOP HOT 100) 2012’s Pop Anthem by an African-American female singer.. Think the “Single Ladies” of 2008 but more club & radio friendly..

4.) PROMISE (CIARA) R&B ballad with 80’s pop synths similar to “I Miss You” by Beyonce.. Amazing beat, whispery soft vocals similar to “Say It Right” by Nelly Furtado.. Depressing ass lyrics written by Ne-Yo or The Dream

5.) COCKINESS (RIHANNA) Hip-Hop/TripHop/Pop song with urban & dance influences.. Catchy, erotic lyrics.. s***, nasty, hard, fun, botty poppin record.. amazing dance music video

  48. THE BEYONCE ERA IS OVER December 27, 2011

    1. Janet- I Get Lonely
    2. The Pussycat Dolls- Buttons
    3. Janet- Anytime, Anyplace
    4. Rihanna- Cockiness
    5. Pink- Dear Diary
    6. Brandy- Almost Doesn’t Count
    7. Britney Spears- 3
    8. Lady Gaga- Reloaded
    9. Janet- Rope Burn
    10. TLC- Diggin’ On You
    11. Janet- So Excited
    12. Janet- Together Again

First Janet needs to get back with Jimmy Jam, and Terry Lewis and rekindle some of that classic ‘Janet’ magic. She also needs to work with Darkchild, he’s done great music with Janet too. Release two singles simultaneously, one for the pop market and one for the urban market- with videos for both. Open up at BET Awards, AMA’s, MTV VMA, Billboard etc,. Go on all the talk shows. Do magazine and radio interviews. SOCIAL MEDIA!!! Use Twitter and Facebook to interact with fans, and keep the updated on the new album etc,. The day the album comes out do a GMA or Today Show concert series.

  49. Jeremyryan December 27, 2011

    1) Nelly Furtado- Showtime………(Great Intro….set’s the mood for the album)
    2)Ciara- I Proceed……(Get’s the hips warmed up)
    3)Kelly Rowland- Down For Whatever……(Ok….now we’re dancing)
    4)Janet Jackson- 2Nite…….(Still Dancing)
    5)Madonna- Sorry (dancing….prepare for mid-tempo)
    6)Brandy- Should I Go…..(Ambient mid tempo)
    7)Britney Spears- Why Should I Be Sad….(Mid-tempo)
    8) Kelly Clarkson- Hear Me….(the song EVERYONE will relate to….HARD vocals)
    8)Janet Jackson- Truth….( deep….raw….r&b….Janet delivers emotion here)
9)Janet Jackson- Better Days…..(lets wrap up the depression with optimism)
10)Lady Gaga- Heavy Metal Lover….(get’s you back up on your feet)
    11) Pussycat Dolls- Bottle Pop….(EDGY hardcore dance track)
    12) Rihanna- We Found Love…..End with a banging club track….about love and life!!

Janet needs to pull the strengths from all her albums in the past, and put them into one. Socially emphasized lyrics about the world and her life…..RN meets the Velvet Rope….throw some club bangers in there that have Janet dancing harder than she has ever danced……I know your knees hurt J, but give it all you got….She has been through so much, and so have we who have followed her. WE WANT SUBSTANCE!!!
    That’s just my two cents……

I’m a Janet fan but I think her career (like Whitney’s) is over on pop radio. Madonna and Mariah still have their backcatalog if 2000’s hits played on the radio while Janet didn’t have one after All 4 You. Madonna is also a major touring force and her entire 80’s and 90’s catalog is more appreciated than Janets. I rarely here Janet’s old material on AC or Lite stations while I hear dozens of Madge and Mariah songs. I think Madonna and Mariah are just seen as far bigger icons.

First of all Janet Jackson has been making music and selling records since 1984 so let’s not say the woman can’t since because she’s been doing it for over 25 years. Second of all, unlike Whitney who I love, Janet’s vocals aren’t shot, she can still sing the same. And why is Beyonce anywhere near this post? Y’all keep forgetting that Beyonce is just a better dancing, louder singing Rihanna. Both of them make music that is irrelevant, impersonal and without real creativity so please have several seats. All their s*** is party music. Nothing about them except WHO RUN THE WORLD!!! Sit the f*** down. Janet Jackson has 6 GREAT albums and is truly an icon. Even Michael tried to do s*** AFTER Janet did it. Some of his videos, getting her choreographer, tried using her producers. Even the king of pop wanted to be like Janet. Janet was also the HIGHEST PAID ARTIST FOR YEARS. First an 40 MILLION DOLLAR DEAL THEN AN 80 MILLION DOLLAR DEAL Your fav could never. And back on the subject, I love Janet and I hope she releases something in 2012 but only if she cowrites because when she doesn’t, it’s a mess. 34 number ones yet y’all still trying to take her credit. Suck a d*** with all that. Oh and search for her documentary on YouTube for the FULL TEA on her contributions to entertainment.

  56. Bey’knight December 28, 2011

Ugh i hate mess like this. That idiotic rhitard purposely mentioned Beyoncé several times in a stupid comment just to ignite a Janet vs Beyonce debate. No Beyfan hated on Janet prior. That unfortunate b****** even wemt further with “notice i dint add any Beyoncé songs” b**** who cares? U think Rihanna is iconic, thats just as valid as any other opinion u have. Hopelesly rhitarded goddamned b******.

Anyways im sure Bey would have been brought up at some point anyways. Some idiots will use any post as an excuse to bring up Beyonce. Apparently their day isnt complete if they dont get to bash Bey on a public forum to feel bettrr about their pathetic lives.

Honestly i always expect better of stans of legends. I assume you’re of age. Whats the need to talk down Bey to make a legend look good? Janet is great and she worked hard to get there. Beyonce’s worked hard to come this far and is still treading her lane. Do not discredit her! She never said she wants to do it the way Janet did. Hell they dont have that much in common anyways. Talking smack about a current artist in defence just gives for your legendary fav to be rubbished too

  57. FactRider December 28, 2011

THE ONLY THING THAT BROUGHT JANET JACKSON’S CAREER BACK ON LIFE SUPPORT (WELL, REALLY HER WHOLE FAMILY HAS BEEN BROUGHT BACK INTO RELEVANCY) IS MICHAEL JACKSON’S DEATH.

THE ONLY THING…..SO CUT THE CRAP ABOUT HER CAREER. MICHAEL JACKSON IS ALL THESE JACKSONS NEEDED …AND HIS DEATH GAVE THEM ANOTHER LIFELINE.

HE SAVED THEM IN 1969 (BY TAKING THEM OUT OF THE GHETTO IN INDIANA) AND HE DID IT AGAIN IN 2009.

    LONG LIVE THE KING!

i MamaDebarge is high on that same crack as her son.

“Even Michael tried to do s*** AFTER Janet did it. Some of his videos, getting her choreographer, tried using her producers. Even the king of pop wanted to be like Janet.”

Michael wanting to be janet is laughable. A little known fact, Janet Jackson took her Rhythm Nation choreography from MJ. During the Captain EO era, he devenopped the military style dance, Janet saw it, loved it and asked HIM permission to use it. Even though, MICHAEL JACKSON, has wanted to use the style again in an upcoming project….he allowed his less talented sister to bite his dance.
Rhythm Nation (Janet’s best video) = Michael Jackson’s gift to Janet.

FACT as told by the KING himself.

MamaDebarge must be high on the same crack as her son…

“Even Michael tried to do s*** AFTER Janet did it. Some of his videos, getting her choreographer, tried using her producers. Even the king of pop wanted to be like Janet. ”

No MJ never had to copy Janet. In fact, Janet’s biggest and most well known video is a credit to the KING.

In 1986, while working on the Captain EO film for Disney, MJ developped the military-style dance which he had intended on using again for an upcoming project.

Janet saw it, loved it…and when it came time to shoot her Rhythm Nation video, asked PERMISSION to bite his dance…and the rest is history.

Little known FACT…..but still, a FACT as told by the KING himself.

4 was a FLOP. admit it. it flopped HARD.

daddy knowles didn’t shell out cash to pay the radio stations = no hit singles = flop album.

    4 is DEAD.

Janet is a living legend. anICON. ORIGINAL…

Beyonce steals concepts and music from other artists.

No comparison should be drawn between the two. It is an affront to the legacy of janet.

  61. Royalkev December 28, 2011

@ Bey’ Knight – Your absolutely right, I don’t see the Bey stans picking fights with Janet’s stans. I stan for both and I find that in all honesty Janet stans are a bit hostile towards them. I’m not exactly sure why, but the obvious reasons seem to be because of Janet’s career issues after SB. Perhaps, they wanted Janet to be given a fair chance to match the success of those that were following behind her. Oddly enough, they’re not even this upset with Justin Timberlake. I also don’t understand why they bash Bey and not artists’ who blatantly steal old Janet themes and concepts (Britney, Kelly Rowland, etc). These people don’t even credit Janet.

@Fact Trider – MJ was indeed inspired by Janet. He tried to gain back his mega star status in the 90’s after it was declining when he teamed up with Janet for Scream. It was evident that he admired her because he enlisted Janet’s team that were her main producers. As far as the military style choreography is concerned, it was said by MJ in the past that she saw the rehearsals and wanted to use it, but he elaborated more on that in another interview where he said that the 2 of them tend to come up with the same concepts at the same time. Janet wanted to go that route around the same time MJ was doing Captn’ eo and it just so happen that he was planing to incorporate that when she was hoping to. He simply backed down more so than gave her the gift of that creation by allowing her to use it first. It was already something she had in mind to do. Tbh, I always felt that MJ just wanted to feel that he had a hand in shaping Janet’s career. They both were very competitive(even with each other). He was close to Janet when she dropped her first album(which saw her reach her first and only #1 off of it ), then they became distant from her success with RN on… (which was the record she obtained 4 more #1’s, as well as a total of 7 billboard Hot 100 top 5’s). I’m sure they loved each other, but I think there was a little sibling rivalry.

The only reason people like Janet now is cos MJ died.

He gave her a career back in the 80s and hes doing it now he’s dead.

She could NEVER sing and she was NEVER a good artist, just a well trained dancer. Jimmy Jam and Lewis are the REASON she is an icon and her family are the only reason we know who she is in the first place.

Beyonce earned her stripes through HARD work and effort, not riding off of her brothers success.
Beyonce can sing, perform AND dance, Janet can dance and thats always been it. Every album shes put out since 2004 has been a damn flop and even 4, which is bEYONCEs biggest flop to date has sold more in a six months than Janets discipline sold in a year.

    _____________________________________________________

Michael NEVER wanted to be Janet. He sold MORE records without seliing s** (something Janet has been doing from 1993 – TODAY)

That’s like saying MJ wanted to be Madonna (even though he was the ONLY artist to surpass her success in the 90s)

All of MJ’s tours grossed more than Janet’s. FACT

  65. StrangerInMoscow December 28, 2011

Nobody is above advice, not even Janet.
It makes me crack up that her fans try and act as though she’s this squeaky clean faultless icon when the last few years have seen her flop left right and center talking about giving head, getting wet in the fru fru and using that damn whispery voice that hasn’t been s*** since before Sean Kingston developed b******.

MJ may have had his faults but his legacy cannot be questioned. Janet’s legacy was secure UP until 2001 and now her stupid pr team are trying their best to convince the world that the last few years of her career didnt happen.

  69. Brittany B December 29, 2011

First of all don’t get me wrong I like Janet, but you must be delusional if you say Janet influenced MJ.I mean lets recall MJ started at age 5 before Janet was even thought of,he helped the Jackson 5 and the whole Jackson family to get where they were in the 70’s.During the 70’s,little Janet use to watch MJ sing, dance, and perform all the time and she has admitted to MJ being her influence.By the time the 80’s hit,MJ encouraged Janet to get into the music industry eventhough it was something her father wanted her to do.Late 80’s Janet saw MJ’s Captain EO routine and she wanted to borrow his choreography and she also sampled his song Remember The Time in the 90’s for her song Runaway. In the 90’s MJ didn’t need Janet’s help cause lets see his song You Are Not Alone debut at #1 which made him the first artist to do so.So tell me do you think MJ needed Janet? My guess is no. She wanted to do the Scream collabo with MJ, so MJ basically carried the entire Jackson family and still is after death.

  70. Bunni J December 29, 2011

    1. Watch and Learn by Rhianna ( S*** n and fun track)

    4. Girl with the tattoo by Miguel
    5. China Love by Janet Jackson
This is coming from the love of Janet fan !

  71. Brittany B December 29, 2011

Let me just say this. For those of you who are hating on MJ and saying he needed Janet in the 90’s.First of all his Dangerous album debut at number 1 and it became the biggest selling New Jack Swing album of all time. For his entire Dangerous Tour he performed in front of 4 million and something people.MJ’s History album became the biggest selling two disc album of all time,it debut at number 1,his song Earth Song debut at number 5,which he beat his own record by having You Are Not Alone debut at number 1.For MJ’s entire History Tour he performed in front of 4 million and something people. His Blood on the Dancefloor album became the biggest selling remix album of all time and it also debut at number 1, so where did he need Janet. Nowhere!!!!!!!! MJ was still a megastar in the 90’s so stop hating.

  72. Chris Kanakis December 29, 2011

I WANT A RHYTHM NATION 2. A POLITICAL DANCE ALBUM FOR 2012. AT THE VERY LEAST THEY COULD DO A RHYTHM NATION THE REMIXES ALBUM FOR 2012 AND SHE COULD INCLUDE A FEW NEW SONGS IN THEME FOR THAT ALBUM.

I AM ALREADY PROMOTING THE IDEA. I DID MY “Chris Kanakis Rhythm Nation Tribute Photo Shoot to Janet Jackson” ITS TIME FOR ANOTHER RHYTHM NATION. WITH ALL THE WAR AND IT BEING AN ELECTION YEAR ITS THE PERFECT TIME FOR A “RN-2” ALBUM!!!

I think this would be a great Janet CD. I would even call the CD “Luv.” Janet Jackson, doesn’t need to do no RN2, hell she doesn’t even have to do another album, she has made her mark in the music industry and doesn’t need to prove anything.

  84. X,Y,”and Z” December 29, 2011

Let’s be honest.. FEELINGS BE DAMNED..!!

40-something-year-old Janet Jackson is one SERIOUS “Grave-dancing” opportunist if there EVER was one! Where were her CDs BEFORE MJ’s untimely passing? Stuck back in the 80s-90s, keeping memories ‘warm and fuzzy’, that’s where!

But, just WHO are these…”Janet devotees”? When and where did SHE find these…”new” fools? Well, we know it WASN’T BEFORE MJ’s passing; no one then even wanted to tour with her. Even LL Cool J ‘wanted-off’ the tour with her; how long ago was HE relevant again?! RIGHT! Janet must’ve found these same ‘die hards’ the very-same place the 30-something-year-old (equally, as marginally talented) Kelly Rowland found hers: in the trash/recycle pile of “broken, forsaken, disillusioned” human psyche, neatly bundled and left on-curb of that near-desolate dead-end street. It’s just off the brightly lit dreams-come-true Highway Of Life!

A ‘peculiar and curious’ lot these.. ‘crumb-snatching throwaways’ who cling to the ‘limelight fabulosity’ for dear life, their grips will, no doubt, soon give way to ‘iron sulfide stained hands’; a fool’s gold, indeed! But they’re NOT an easily swayed, nor discouraged bunch. As quickly as they’re sure to be forsaken, they THEN affix their attention(s) to the next ‘glittery effervescence’, never mind the very obvious puppet master who stands above!

See a fool, use a fool..

Black gays heavily predominate these..broken, walking wounded souls. “Junkies in need of that lime-light fix”!! You almost feel pity for them. Almost..”Pity” if it weren’t all so..entertaining!

But Janet Jackson?! *sigh* Poor Michael! Poor! Poor Michael..!! They just REFUSE to let him “Rest In Peace”!

    X,Y,”and Z” — OUT..!!

  85. Sweet Tea December 29, 2011

I still think they should have released “Roll With Chu” from 20 Y.O. (it was actually a bonus track)—however I would like to see Janet make feel-good pop like “All For You”, “Escapade” or “Make Me”–because she is a legend she should do what Lady Gaga did once perform every night on the Letterman show all week that would be cool. Janet should always stop singing about s** I think the Superbowl thing did her in and singing about your c****** is only bringing attention to past controversies—give up talking about menopause s** and S&M and instead talk about world subjects, life issues and make great pop music again.

  86. Rodney Gunn December 29, 2011

All i have to say is that i do like Beyonce but Janet is hands down the Queen. She has influenced Beyonce, Ciara, Brittney Spears, Rihanna, Aaliyah, Jenniner Loopez, and any other up and coming diva. Janet is the original bad DIVA of Dance. Who do you people realize who started the whole Dance Diva era. Non other than Miss Janet!!! Some other facts i want to point out. Over 100 million albums sold, 10 number 1 pop hits and 16 number one r&b hits. And you Beyonce fans dare compare her to the great Janet. They are not in the same League. FACT!!!

  87. Hazel December 29, 2011

Janet should come with an EXPERIMENTAL/concept album, much like The Velvet Rope. I’m really not interested in seeing her working with the most sought after producers of today (i.e. Rodney Jerkins), though their previous efforts were appetizing.

I concur, Jam & Lewis should definitely be in the forefront; sort of overseeing things, much like they did on the Damita Jo project. I recall a great deal of various producers being involved on that album (Telepopmusik, Anders Bagge, Kanye West — to name a few), but it was cohesive in sound and didn’t steer away from what we know and love Janet to be/deliver.

It’s been quite some time since we’ve heard an alternative/rock record from Janet, so that’s something I’m anxious to hear; along with toying with a jazz/electro fusion (think “Velvet Rope”, “Slo Love” or “Put Your Hands On”).

It’s time for Janet to say something!!! It’s time for her to get back involved in the writing process from start to finish. Her last 2 efforts didn’t seem honest, nor passionate. I didn’t sense a true involvement in either record, less any interest. But I believe that’s behind her.

I’m optimistic and more certain that Janet has assessed her career/catalogue and knows what’s been lacking. BE BOLD JANET! SPEAK FROM THE HEART! Because with that, I’m positive that you’ll be more passionate about your work and what you deliver, which will then translate in the overall aesthetic.

I’M READY FOR THIS NEXT PROJECT LIKE YESTERDAY!

Also need to stop whispering and sang, is tht so damn hard gurrl?

  92. Schnoopy December 30, 2011

I think these tracks will be ideal for Janet:

Beat Of My Drum (by Nicola Roberts) – with a “Janet dance break” in the middle
Work (by Ciara) – a perfect song for Janet
Devotion (by Electrik Red) – S*** Janet part 1
So Good (by Electrik Red) – S*** Janet part 2
    W.F.Y. (by Electrik Red) – S*** Janet part 3
Motivation (by Kelly Rowland) – S*** Janet part 4
Big Fat Bass (by Britney Spears) – Dance Janet
Do It Like A Dude (by Jessie J) – like an updated “You” from the Velvet Rope
Just Can’t Get Enough (by The Black Eyed Peas) – a pop dance ballad hybrid
Criminal Intent (by Robyn) – urban sounding
Together Again (2012 Version) – Maybe MJ related
*A new song with Missy Elliott

    What do you guys think?

    Any more song suggestions?

    ..NO!

..Oh, and Tanya, by the way, that “stanking”? That’s your top lip!

(sigh..)Tanya, I have yet MORE bad news (better a stranger to tell you, yes?): those Nutrisystem commercials are ALL a gimmick. You see, Janet, not unlike yourself, was born to be fat girl. For her obesity, hypertension and diabetes were all already predetermined and preprogrammed. You might want to keep that in mind the next time you see your Janet in those “well” fitting jeans. At those photoshoots, just off-camera, you’ll see her many heavily muscled helpers. They’re the ones who should be congratulated as they’ve then managed to squeeze, cajole and shoehorn all that “chubby-girl blubber” into denims two-sizes smaller..

Question: What does your fave, Janet Jackson, have in common with Rihanna? (Hint? Well, as it’s the holiday season: it’s the “gift” that just keeps on giving)

guys come on now, Janet has flopped hard in recent years. I just hope that she comes back and will bring back some R&B. Just like Mariah, and Mary, janet does not get enough promotion. I hope she does this time.

I would love for Janet to work with Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis again! Another great duo for her to work with are The Neptunes. Janet loves Brazilian jazz and I’m pretty sure Pharrell & Chad can hook her up with some influence from that genre. Also, I would love for Janet to slow it down a little bit. By that I mean don’t make too many uptempo songs. I want to hear something a little more laid back. I.E. That’s The Way Love Goes/ Got Til It’s Gone. Don’t stop with the baby making songs! Something nice and sensual like the classic Anytime Anyplace. This album has gotta be s***! LOL

Not in any particular order in regards to a tracklist but somewhere along the lines of production and the sound of each song.

    Rihanna – We Found Love
Rihanna ft. Nicki Minaj – Raining Men
    Rihanna – Complicated
Maroon 5 & Christina Aguliera – Moves Like Jagger
    Janet Jackson – Throb
Britney Spears – Trouble for Me
Janet Jackson – All for You
    Janet Jackson – Together Again
    Janet Jackson – Feedback
Beyonce – Love on Top meets Herb Alpert & Janet – Diamonds
Kelly Rowland – Motivation meets TLC – Red Light Special
    Beyonce – I Miss You

What Janet needs to do in order to have a successful album in regards to critical AND commercial performance. She needs to just some dance songs on the radio again. Her last #1 hits were pop tunes (All for You, Together Again) Hell, even Feedback had more exposure than any other singles from 2004 on, so she was doing something right.

Honestly, I don’t think Janet needs to stick with Terry Lewis & Jimmy Jam for an entire album. She should go with other producers here and there if it means they’re creating something hot.

And last but not least, she needs to be seen MORE with a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT IMAGE. Promote like hell (Twitter, Facebook, television, radio, youtube series, photoshoots, etc.) Change up her look every album like she normally do cus she sure was a hot topic when she cut her hair last year.

I don’t get this Janet and Beyonce stuff. Can’t they both be good? While Beyonce is more famous now, Janet did come first and a lot of the sh*t Beyonce does is Jackson-esque….copying from both Michael and Janet. I think some of these responses come from Public Relation or Record Company people.

I think both of them have seen their peak and neither will be around in 10 years.

Janet, thanks for all the hard work and for all the albums you’ve given to all of us to kick back and enjoyed especially the erotic make love to songs! Now it’s time for the new songs to inspire and feel what we’ve gone through the years as we have aged and matured. I really would have liked to have see you working with Pit-bull featured in “Heartbeat Love” this would have been a number 1 on the charts! In your up-coming new album I would like to hear more duets, I really would like for you to twist it up with your up coming new album featuring other talented artist for a change. I really enjoyed you working with the legendary Mr. Luther Vandross in “The Best things In Life Are Free” and Busta Rhymes in “What’s it Gonna Be” and my all time favorite “Scream” with your brother Mike, awesome memories! With you in the move industry means; more soundtracks Bring it back Janet, you can do it!
