I understand your sentiment but your argument is flawed. Artists don’t attract and keep fans or record contracts because of the people they were inspired by, they do it on their own merit.
So to say any of the Rap girls “owe” Kim is silly because it’s not as though she’s the one signing them and funding their projects. I agree that she deserves a lot more respect but she makes it hard to remember the good things about her when she cheapens herself with mix tapes like Black Friday and dating that leech Mr. Papers.
Like I said, Kim did inspire all of these girls but they owe her nothing because they came up on their own two feet, because if Kim is that powerful that she’s starting careers why couldn’t she save her own.

what you failed to acknowledge in your lackluster argument is the FACT that in order for nicki to get recognized she DID depend on Kim and Kim’s likeness to get noticed in the long run. FACT: to get noticed and generate buzz nicki REDID MULTIPLE LIL KIM SONGS, redid Kim’s poses, AND REFERENCED KIM MULTIPLE TIMES throughout her rise to get where she is today. (FORGET ABOUT MIXTAPE NICKI DID WE??)
so to say they came in the game “one their own 2 feet” is not entirely true especially in nick’s case. While Kim obviously didn’t write nicks rhymes or manage her, SHE DID serve as nick’s ultimate mechanism to get noticed.
Had nicki never used kim or her likeness to get attention, THEN we could say she came in on her “own 2 feet’, but notice when she started using Kim’s appeal was when she STARTED really getting noticed.
FACT: nicki has referenced Kim in MANY verses, more times than ANY OTHER FEMALE rapper.
I would’ve believed that all this would’ve been just coincidental, HOWEVER the fact that Kim’s influence has been a focal point of her career FOR YEARS it is not coincidental but rather a blatant attempt to “fill her shoes” as nicki is ALSO QUOTED AS SAYING in reference to Kim.
Hence, nicki didn’t entirely come in the game “on her own 2 feet” as you claim. We would all be LYING/ be in DENAIL if we said nicki never needed kim to get where she is today.
Take away Kim and her likeness and there would be no nicki.
FACT: When kim did what she did it was ALL new and had NEVER been done before. Kim took a lot of heat when she came out for being different and provided the formula for a VERY SUCCESSFUL rap career so that THOSE AFTER would’t have to deal with all the criticism for being so different at the time.
SO YES, nicki does OWE Kim in the sense that had Kim never been out nick’s career would be COMPLETELY different than what it is right now.
Just like Kim credits many females before her for making a way for her, nicki is indebted to kim for opening doors AND FOR GIVING NICKI THE BLUEPRINT TO JUMP START HER CAREER (which nicki used to the fullest extent possible).
Had nicki never used kim’s songs, poses, or referenced her THEN we might be able to say she came in the game on her own merit BUT THATS NOT THE CASE.

The argument on Kim’s style is also pretty flawed. Remember Kim had people help manufacture that style for her and it was based on the work of designers and fashion trends.
To say Nicki or Azealia or anyone else wouldn’t wear pasties or colored wigs if not for Kim ignores everything about the way the world works. Nothing has ever hinged on only one person. If not for Kim someone else would have done the same thing, if not for Kim designers would have continued to influence the hip hop community till more people embraced style.
Heck even if no rapper ever wore colored wigs or pasties Nicki came out when the style of dress was bold everything. Bold hair, bold makeup, bold clothes for the general public and celebrities. You could buy a clip in streak of bright turquoise hair at practically any store. Azealia’s come in when that’s still hot and she’s embracing it as well.
Folks should focus on Kim’s rap, not her style.

Honestly I think Kim just lacks direction or true creative or business skill. I’m not saying that makes her a flop or failure, no, I think that’s just what her flaws are.
I say this because when the steam and hype of her initial musical introduction ran out she never was able to get back into it. She’ll do something that could open a door for her
ancing with the Stars, Search for the Next Pussycat Doll but then She won’t do anything to follow it up so she gets forgotten again.
Same thing with her music now. She’ll release a single, get her fans hyped but nothing ever really comes of it. I think Kim really needs strog management, someone that will go hardcore on her and make her work consistently and efficiently. Because at this rate who knows when the next single will be. But I don’t think Kim is ready for that kind of hard work, I think she expects it to be easy and just fall into place.

Later, in the fall of 2011, Nicki Minaj was seen at the American Music Awards press conference looking…errr…rather odd, to put it nicely. The blue eyes are back, but this time she mixes things up with a half-bloned, half-blue wig. In the photo, it’s clear that the camera is not playing tricks on us. Nicki Minaj’s skin is definitely lighter from her forehead to her cheeks. Either it’s skin bleach or makeup. But she didn’t stop there. Nicki has attempted to contour her nose…badly.
And finally Nicki Minaj is at the 2012 Grammys with a blonde wig, light brown eyes, and lighter makeup under her eyes. Granted it’s not as bad as her AMA press conference appearance, but it still seems unnatural.
Nicki Minaj takes pride in her body, so why not her own skin? Let’s forget about the contacts and the wigs–it can be fun to dress up sometimes. (Just ask Lil’ Kim & Lady Gaga, who did it first.) The skin lightening/brightening/bleaching thing Nicki Minaj is doing, however, is quite concerning. What sort of message are women of color supposed to take away from this? Now, I’m lighter skinned; I’m not saying anyone should be ashamed of being lighter. But should that necessarily be the ideal?
One can only hope that Nicki Minaj will look in the mirror one day and realize, “Hey, I was a PYT when I first hit it big!” Otherwise, if she keeps making drastic changes to her appearance she would turn in to Casper.

I’m sorry but everything in that post is all true. Loved Kim at one point, but the constant on again off again care for her career and fans was exhausting. Why are you people arguing over this. Kim did her thing back in the day however her real problem is that no one wants to see a half-naked could be grandmother grunting and strutting around on stage. She should have evolved, realized appearance can only get you so far but when you have been on this earth almost 4 decades it’s time to sit down, use some of the money she has to get an education. Get a job, get a life, put some clothes on, grow up and shut up. Let the new people have their turn, hell Kim was on stage when some of them weren’t even out of elementary school! No she can’t compete and actually she shouldn’t be trying to compete, grow up lady.
