As our celebration of ‘Dangerously In Love‘s 10th birthday comes to an end, TGJ HQ got to thinking.
It may not always feel like it, but the last ten years have given the world no shortage of groundbreaking Pop classics.
From GaGa‘s ‘Pokerface‘ to Usher’s ‘Confessions’, Janet‘s ‘All For U’ to Drake‘s ‘The Motto‘, many an act has seen their cuts rise from potential hits to the soundtrack of many a summer-or in some cases- a lifetime.
So, putting genres lines aside, we’re asking you to name the one song you feel’s had the most impact on Popular culture and the world at large- released between January 1st 2000…and today!
After a week, we’ll pick the 20 cuts that are named the most in the comment section below and send those songs straight to the final, where you’ll be able to vote for your winner on That Grape Juice ‘Greatest Song of The Noughties’ poll.
More below!
Remember, chart positions and sales aren’t the only factors that can be taken into account here.
Did the song spawn a new catchphrase? A crazy dance move perhaps…or anything that changed the game for better or for worse.
Get listing below!

My preacher preached against Rihanna on Sunday. I laughed at first but now I see she really is the w**** of whores. Advertising her v***** wherever she can but the prices always stay low.
You’re probably sleeping with your preacher too. Tell him to incorporate that into his sermon next Sunday. 🙂
You sinful b****! How dare you suggest that. My preacher is a good MARRIED man and I don’t get down like that. SOME of us have morals, unlike that p**** spreading s*** b**** you worship.
Oh please!! The married preachers are the main ones sleeping with little boys…..then they try to sit up there and judge mother fuckers. Please. Sweep around your own front porch boo. And lest not forget the pastor who bashed Jay and Beyonce for being illuminati and devil worshippers. 😆 you can find that on YouTube. *flips nonexistent hair and floats away*
You worried about my preacher so much, you forgot to ask if I bought the holy water for Rihanna’s P****. #TeamHerpes
@Bewhouwanna, u talkin bout morals/standard with that filthy mouth! Practice what you preach sister. You old Mopp!
Lmao #TeamHerpes huh? I hope you’re taking your Valtrex medication 😆 Holy water ain’t gonna cure that boo 😆 😆
Who is your preacher to judge though?
I’m not surprised the Navy are Team Anti Christ. Devilish s**** 2bh.
And the CList-Squad is non existent.
Look here u Ciara flop stan! Nobody’s Anti-Christ, were just wondering why yall bringing the church to tgj. And your mouth is just as filthy so have several seats crackhead_/_/_/ .
Yesss @ YEA WHATEVA. This is a blog filled with hate, gossip and gays. Aren’t all three of those sins?! 😆 These queens kill me trying to be holy only when it’s convenient. 🙄
The c-list squad purchased that debut to 3x platinum/ 5mil ww. Why couldnt the Titanic do the same for their fave debut? ITS SINKIIIIIING… Lmfao 😆 Gold after 7 yrs w/ as big a star as she is? . #FLOP Atleast Ciara has an excuse for her last album flopping, zero promo. R**** tv shows get cancelled for poor ratings 🙁
Britney Toxic & Til The World Ends
Beyonce Crazy In Love
Rihanna Umbrella & We Found Love
Christina Aguilera Beautiful
Mariah We Belong Together
Adele Someone Like You
Amy Winehouse Rehab
Leona Lewis Bleeding Love
Justin Timberlake Cry Me A River
You already did this.
I don’t like this kind of posts……
Every artist ruled for a certain year or so , what is the big deal , also the answer will be so subjective.
I will say Britney’s “baby on more time” changed the whole face of music, I don’t even use her, but she actually did that.
I wasn’t so aware of the music scene before 2003 , but i will tell you about songs that was so popular and i felt it’s impact outside of the internet..
2003 : CIL
2004 : Me against the music – Britney and madonna
2005 : yeah – usher / Mariah – WBT / Rihanna – pon de replay
2006 : Justin timberlake – sexyback
2007 : Hips don’t lie – shakira / Umbrella – rihanna
2008 : Poker face – Lady gaga
2009 : bad romance – lady gaga
2010 : Rihanna – Love The way you Lie
2011 : Adele – Rolling in the Deep
2012 : Rihanna – We found Love
2013 : Rihanna – Diamonds
I agree with your comment, but…
“Baby, One More Time… Changed the face of music”?
Girl… Every non-Pop fan would HIGHLY disagree.
I’m sure you meant to reword that differently. But yes, that song did have an undeniable affect on 21st Century Pop Culture.
🙂
well , I wanted to put it in other ways…….
we all love to shade britney, but the b**** Ruled!!!
IDk , I will go with ” Baby one More Time” in this Post. 😉
What is your favourite Britney song?
😉
Breath On me. 😀
one listen and you will be f*****’ addicted to it.
YES.
I LOVE THAT SONG.
But, my favourite, will always be “I’m a S****… 4 U”.
S*** S***
I’m S**** 4 You is the S***!!!
Yes, Britney songs turns me on tbh.
But “Breathe on me” maaan >>>>>
2003 = Baby Boy.
2004 = Yeah!
2005 = We Belong Together
2006 = Sexyback
2007 = Umbrella
2008
JARED you are such a sweet young QUEEN
2008 ==> Touch my Body ? 😉
Yes Girl…
*Shakes Ass*
🙂 🙂 🙂
2008 was Single Ladies…or was that ’09?
@Navy Sailor…
It was released in November 2008…
And was #1 through December 2008 to January 2009.
🙂
@navySailor :
2008 and 2009 belonged to gaga….. tho. #Mumamamaaah
“Baby one more time” is from 1999 I think.
I don’t want to see anybody mention Lana or else that stupid cow Rosie will come in here talking s***.
All for you. All of your favs came to pay homage to the queen as she continued to break chart records with this one.
Janet hasn’t had a hit in ten years so be seated.
But all but one of her flop albums has sold more than your fav’s “successful” ones.
Lmao that isn’t a Navi, that’s a troll 😆
See how they do Janet? Their fave can’t even perform. SMGDH!!
You do realise the noughties is 2000-2009 and the tens is 2010-2019
Do you realise the noughties are 2000-2009 not 2010+ IDIOT!!!!!

2000-2009 only DUMB B****!!!!
Mariah Carey – We Belong Together.
Definitely Beautiful, by Christina Aguilera. Not only is it a timeless song, with a timeless lyric and killer vocals, but Christina was preaching a message of tolerance, self acceptance and respect ages before Gaga for example. And those values are THE values of the 00’s.
BEAUTIFUL- CHRISTINA AGUILERA!!!
the one song you feel’s had the most impact on Popular culture
——————————————
#1 Beyonce – Single Ladies
This one will p*** people off, but references of this song is still made to this day (i.e. ‘He better put a ring on it’). This was an anthem.
#2 Beyonce – Crazy In Love
It’s ranked #1 by practically everyone that you can think of as the best song of the last decade! It deserves that respect as well.
#3 Adele – Rolling in the Deep
I guess! …
#4 Lady Gaga – Bad Romance
This is brutal honesty here, because I don’t care for this woman, but this song is one of those hits she’ll still be able to perform in somebody’s greasy nightclub years from now and still earn 20K.
#5 Britney Spears – Gimme More
It’s Britney B*tch! Classic! #Impact
#6 Justin Timberlake – S*** Back
That song defines pop. It has every ingredient in it that would make America fall in love with this media darling.
#7 Rihanna – Umbrella
The Eh,eh’s put the girl on the map.
#8 Mariah Carey – We Belong Together
This was a “big ballad” and Mariah’s signature song, and that’s saying a lot after 18 #1’s!
#9 Christina Aguilera – Beautiful
This is the closest thing to having a pop song with a strong message (a la Janet … it’s Pop music with substance).
#10 Destiny’s Child – Independent Women
The song was another anthem that ruled every damn thing!
A. Keys(Fallin’), Usher(Yeah!), Amy Winehouse(Rehab), Ciara(Goodies), Janet(AFY), Madonna(Hung Up), Jlo (Love Don’t Cost a Thing), Nelly Furtado (Promiscuous), Fergie(London Bridge) and Gwen Stefani(Holla Back) all deserve a honorable mention too.
even though single ladies gave us the line “put a ring on it”, single ladies was not a good son to me.It has a great video which displayed beyonce playing to her strength. It didn’t have amazing vocals or anything so i am amazed that people would even consider that.Even if people said halo or if i were a boy, but single ladies?really?
That’s your opinion^ Why are you pressed by people giving Beyoncé credit?
Its about IMPACT. Not whether the song was good in your opinion
Beyonce slayed them all
Period bithes
1: Beyonce crazy in love
2: Rihanna we found love
3: Janet All for You
4: Justin Timberlake Sexyback
America is the biggest marketing for music sales.
Hot 100 America was started & is the original chart of Billboard. This is why people consider Americas Hot 100 charts the most valuable. With that being said The biggest songs of each decade.
1940s = White Christmas (12 weeks @ number 1)
Bring Crosby was also the #1 artist of the 1940s
1950s = Jailhouse Rock (12 weeks @ number 1)
Elvis Presley was the #1 artist od the 1950s
1960s = Hey Jude (9 weeks @ number 1)
T
1970s = You Light Up My Life
1980s = Endless Love (9 weeks @ number 1)
Lionel Richie & Diana Ross
1990s = One Sweet Day (16 weeks @ number 1)
Mariah Carey & Boys 2 Men

Michael Jackson was the #1 artist of the 1980s USA & WORLDWIDE
1990s = One Sweet Day (16 weeks @ number 1)
Mariah Carey & Boys 2 Men
Mariah Carey was the #1 female of the 1990s but the most successful of the decade in America was Garth Brooks WORLDWIDE Celine Dion I think….
Janet! All For You! Umbrella and We Belong Together are a close second and third.
Depends if we are taken into account only US charts of worldwide hits, ‘We Belong Together’ must have been a hit in the US and in some part of the world but it wasn’t certainly as big as ‘Hung Up’ which peaked at number one in charts of 41 countries and earning a place in the 2007 Guinness Book of World Records, as the song topping the charts in most countries, howerver we should also take into consideration impact and i think Pop music didn’t have a real impact in the 2000’s, don’t even try with ‘Crazy in Love’…I think it was rock music, i mean songs such as ‘Viva La Vida’, ‘MR Brightside’ have much more impact, just the same way ‘Smells Like T*** Spirit’ had in the 90’s despite of the success of the likes of Mariah, Janet, MJ, Madonna, Celine and Whitney, it’s rare because is not mainstream music but still make its impact on popular culture, Pop music has been declined since the beginning of 2000 but other songs such as ‘Rehab’, ‘Shake Ya Ass’ or ‘You’re Beautiful’ are also part of the most well known songs on the 2000’s, so lots of artists had success with their own type of music, at least a the beginning of 2000’s, that’s the big difference with this generation, just one genre is dominating (Generic dance) and is TRASH and if you don’t jump in the bandwagon, the artist won’t probably have success on the mainstream charts, i remember when all artists from every kind of genre were all having success, Britney, Destiny’s Child, Linkin Park, Eminem, Outkast, Missy ect, ect…after 2005, music became s***.
Here’s a few of fav. songs of the past decade, singles only, male and famale singers.
1- Clocks – Coldplay
2- Here is Gone – Goo Goo Dolls
3- All These Things That I’ve Done – The Killers
4- Crawling – Linkin Park
5- S** on Fire – Kings of Leon
6- Get Together – Madonna
7- Try It On My Own – Whitney Houston
8- We Belong Together – Mariah Carey
9- A New Day Has Come – Celine Dion
10 – Doesn’t Really Matter – Janet Jackson
11 – Stronger – Britney
Amy Winehouse “Rehab” Mariah “It’s like that” Christina “Beautiful” Beyonce CIL/ “Single Ladies”
Bc to me, even though WBT was #1, “It’s like that” was the breakout song that got spun on urban
Just bc a song was #1, doesnt mean it had IMPACT TGJ y’all stanning for charts 😆 keeps me in stitches with these forgettable #1s
It’s Like That was very FORGETTABLE. WBT is a classic .
BEYONCE ALREADY HAS THE OFFICIAL TITLE!
we go by billboards to determine our hit songs, not vh1
OMG DEAD
And Crazy in Love had huge Impact on Billboards. Your point?
Hard one.. When I think of songs that really made impact in music or really contributed to music ( good or bad )
Sales aside these are my picks ( that came to mind ) :
# Britney – Baby, One More Time
She launched the pop era with that song.. Rest is history
# Britney – S**** 4 You
Need I say more ?
# Rihanna – Umbrella
Huge hit and this song made it clear.. She’s here to stay.
# Justin Timberlake – Cry Me A River
# Mariah Carey – We Belong Together
# Nelly Furtado – I’m Like A Bird
# Mary J Blidge – No Drama
# 50 Cent – In The Club
# Destiny’s Child – Survivor
# Pink, Mya, Christina, Lil’ Kim – Lady Marmalade
So far so good.. More coming!
Well, considering MRS CARTER already has the official song of the DECADE as much is this makes people seethe I can see why. 10 years later the song does not sound dated and even still no matter what race, class, religion etc. you are the first thing everyone knows what to do is the UH OH dance. It was such a banger at the time and is just affiliated with the dance floor and unleashing the inner diva in EVERYONE.
But IMO
Christina Aguilera – Beautiful
Britney Spears – Toxic
Madonna – Hung Up
Lady Gaga – Poker Face
Amy Winehouse – Rehab
Rihanna – Umbrella
Usher – Yeah!
Beyonce – Single Ladies
Outkast – Hey Ya
Destinys Child – Independent Woman
Justin Timberlake Cry Me a River
…are some of the biggest too!
For me the songs are:
Rihanna – Umbrella (Iconic)
Rihanna – We Found Love
Rihanna – Don’t Stop the Music (Iconic)
Rihanna – Diamonds
Rihanna – Unfaithful
Kelis – Milkshake (Iconic)
Beyonce – Crazy in Love (Iconic)
Britney Spears – Toxic (Iconic)
Christina Aguilera – Ain’t No other man
Christina Aguilera – Beautiful (Iconic)
Justin Timberlake – What goes around comes around
Nelly Furtado – Promiscuous
Adele – Rolling in the deep (the slayage)
Adele – Someone Like You (Iconic)
Lady Gaga – Poker face (Iconic)
Lady Gaga – Just Dance (Iconic)
Britney Spears – Gimme More (ICONIC)
Jennifer Lopez – Get Right
The Black Eyed Peas – I gotta feeling (Hit of our generation)
The Black Eyed Peas – Boom Boom Pow
Mariah Carey – We belong together
Miley Cyrus – Party In The Usa
Usher – OMG.
Amy Whinehouse – Rehab (Iconic)
Madonna – Hung Up (Iconic)
Katy Perry – I kissed a Girl (Iconic)
well we ALL KNOW that the top songs are:
Rihanna – Umbrella and WFL
Beyonce – Single Ladies and Crazy in Love
Adele – Rolling in the Deep & Someone Like You
Laday Gaga – Bad Romance and Poker Face
Mariah Carey – We Belong Together
Britney Spears – Gimmie More
Usher – Yeah!
To me the biggest songs of the noughties were
Britney Spears Toxic, 50 Cent in The club, Christina Aguilera Beautiful, Beyonce Single Ladies, Rihanna Umbrella, Lady Gaga Bad Romance, Usher Yeah and Chris Brown Run it
we belong together for sure.And even though vh1 named crazy in love as their song of the decade, mariah has the billboards certification which tops vh1 any day.It won two grammy awards and was certified double platinum, it spent 14 weeks at no.1,hot 100 air play song of the decade,and much more.
Crazy won 2 grammys, sold 1.7 mil, & reached #1 on 7 charts. The only thing WBT has on CIL is its # of weeks at #1. So whats your point? You can go tit for tat but CIL had the bigger impact at the end of the day regardless of numbers.
We Belong Together cant touch Crazy in Love when it comes to WW impact honey.
Rihanna – Umbrella
hmmm? From 2000-2010?
Beyonce:Crazy In Love(impact launched her solo career)& Single Ladies(The best video of her career)

50 cent:wankster and in the club
Pink: Just like a pill

Young Jeezy: the snow man movement had kids and teens getting suspended from school(2006-2008)

Kanye:Gold digger,Jesus walks,through the wire,Flashing lights,Stronger
Nsync:Gone,dirty pop,I want it that way
Madonna:Music
Jay-Z: All of his blue-print albums
Missy Elliot:Work it
Crazy in Love!!!
No shade but We Belong together was local, it was a hit in my country but its impact wasnt huge and not really on POP more R&B. I know it was barely used at all in some European countries.
* I want it that way is from The Backstreetboys not N*Sync
Honestly I’ve never been sooooooo crazed by Single Ladies beyonce,it was around late 2008 early 2009 that satellite television was becoming very popular in south africa,and so everyone who got DsTv was dancing to it,I mean EVERYONE,THIS SONG IS THE U.L.T.I.M.A.T.E GANGNUM STYLE!!! In 2010 shakira’s WAKA WAKA was on EVERYONE’S PHONE.B4 all this irreplaceable was very popular on radio,just after the HUGE mariah careys WE BELONG TOGETHER.I WAS INTRODUCED TO BEYONCE BY HER FIRST SINGLE,Crazy in love,it was nice but its impact was not bigger than single ladies choreography which was referred to by many commercials,for the first time I was part of a WHOLE-SCHOOL parody video,which got viral.RiHANna’s umbrella had the catchiest hook,everybody knew it,and at that time even if you live under a rock you would know who rihanna is,HOWEVER as much as I love my fav I can’t deny how in every house you’d find family members dance in the living room wiTh beyonce on mtv.Single Ladies was just exciting + no matter what size or shape,if you learned it,you could do it,straight gay whatever,single ladies was a genius hit.It was also nice to see a complete transformation of beyonce,Sasha Fierce was quite captivating,even when it started to burn out blogs where on fire about this new character and that’s when people who have nothing to do would spend time writing interesting articles about new world order,sasha,hova,and illuminati.As for bey,love her or hate her,YOU WERE TALKING ABOUT HER AND HER RINGTONE SONG: single ladies.So my verdict is: BEY SINGLE LADIES followed by WE Belong Together MC followed by UMBRELLA RIh followed by POKER FACE LG (not sure bout this one).BUT THE TOP FIVE M U S T H A V E single ladies, umbrella and we belong together.#1 single ladies

Wow the struggle to report on something, you actually bumped up an old post.
Play by Jennifer Lopez always brings back good memories from the early 2000’s
Ciara Goodies
SINGLE LADIES!
SINGLE LADIES!
SINGLE LADIES!
SINGLE LADIES!
SINGLE LADIES!
Impact means the song was influential in terms of what other artists would do in the years following its release.
Fallin’ – Alicia Keys: Rebirth of old school soul. India.Arie, musiq, Amy Winehouse, and Adele would continue this trend.
Forever – Chris Brown: Not sure when the Euro-tech craze started in the USA, but this song was part of the leading edge. Calvin Harris, David Guetta, Sia, and others would take this further.
Get Low – Lil Jon: Birth of the crunk craze of the mid-naughts.
I Kissed a Girl – Katy Perry: Pure pop-rock confection. Pop was about to take the Hot 100 back and kick hip hop and r&b to the side (for a while).
Party Rock Anthem – LMFAO: Paved the way for their other hits and Macklemore.
Suit & Tie – Justin Timberlake: Made r&b cool again. Case-in-point is Blurred Lines, the current #1.
No. It just means how big the songs where in that era of pop music.
Honestly, how can you pick 1? All have so many different meanings & all so positive, in their own rights. JANET is QUEEN, MARIAH is QUEEN, BEYONCE is QUEEN, Christina, Ciara & Rihanna all are QUEENS in their own lane! Lady Gaga, Drake, the list goes on, MICHAEL come on-HISTORY! I can’t pick just 1 song-I need categories! 😉
