After watching the likes of J.Cole, Jay Z & Kanye West reap the commercial rewards for their respective media dominating album campaigns, Hip Hop was asked to turn its attention to Big Sean this week…and his new album ‘Hall of Fame‘.
Unfortunately, despite his album scoring a collective 10 on a critical tip, the Rapper is gearing up to welcome first week sales that skate on modest ice.

Billboard Biz reports:
“Industry sources suggest Big Sean’s new “Hall of Fame” could sell approximately 70,000 copies in the week ending Sept. 1, which should enable it to make a top three debut next week. It’s the follow-up to his debut studio effort, “Finally Famous,” which opened at No. 3 in 2011 with 87,000, according to Nielsen SoundScan.”
For some, 70,000 units in today’s climate is a God send.
Unfortunately, for an act whose genre is renown and celebrated for its mega sellers, it sort of hurts- as fans of Sean- to report these predicted figures, knowing how many more units he would have sold had he armed with a single akin to ‘Clique’ and a roll out worthy of the album’s quality.
To put it simply, with Hip Hop on commercial fire this year, one has to wonder how and why the album’s handlers weren’t able to secure the support of the same audiences who have given all of his contemporaries sweet digits.
Here’s hoping the weeks that follow see Sean afforded the push he deserves, as to avoid being billed the weakest link in Hip Hop’s ever thriving commercial chain.

Well, he was pretty close to his best first week sales so i think he just missing the huge fan base of Jay-Z , Kanye and Eminem, but i don’t think this is that bad for his standards.
Atleast he didn’t sell 37k – 57k now that would be tragic.

He didn’t have much promo, and he didn’t have a single that did great. So these numbers are decent, all things considered. He has risen as an artist though, so these numbers should be a little higher. But they aren’t terrible..
No one cares about him. Plain and simple.
He missed the hip hop craze this summer. He should had dropped this when the rest of them dropped their’s. He would’ve been in that conversation. J.Cole road off Kanye’s hype. Or maybe he should had saved those dope verses he did last year for this year. Plus your “promo” was all about Kendrick epic verse. But 60k to 70k is the new norm now. To do more you have to have a strong fan base and I’m talking decades of work (Jay Z and Justin Timberlake. )

His album was garbage. I was disappointed considering how much of a fan I am of his debut album. I guess he’s one of those 1 album artist. Oh well

2.He is more of collaboration type rapper(every one of his hits have a feature with more famous artist or flat out better rappers)
3. Nothing is really that different from him that sets him apart from the ever growing roster of male rappers.
4.Promo shouldn’t be an excuse, one of the most controversial Hip-Hop songs this year was on his album, has performed multiple on late night shows and other places etc
on top of all that, the album just isn’t that good. Same reason why finally famous still isn’t gold.
those are r and b numbers…..should be much easier for a so called crossover hip hop star to do at least 100k
