Despite an awesome lineup featuring Jennifer Hudson, John Legend, Adam Levine, and more, it was pop megastar Lady Gaga who was billed as the night’s “must see” musical performer at the 87th annual Academy Awards. Now, after lending an absolutely jaw-dropping performance of the Julie Andrews-famed ‘The Sound of Music’ from the classic movie of its namesake, we can see why.

the funny thing is that Madonna has never been threatened by her, it’s Gaga who is continuously talking s*** and making up the feud for people to feel sorry for her. Madonna made one comment about her in 2012 that she felt it reductive that Gaga ripped off her song and then continuously lied about it.
Lady Gaga raided through Madonna’s work, the only way I guess she would feel threatened is having a stalker and one that has no respect for her work and labor. Otherwise their work is very different.
Lady Gaga is more an Elton John than a Madonna. Madonna comes from dance, which Lady Gaga obviously doesn’t.
Madonna’s songs are superior, her shows are superior, she is a MUCH better live performer physically, her sense of conducting a stage is far superior and other things I’m sure, I’d much rather take that over a karaoke act who hits notes more precisely but with not one iota of creativity.
Madonna in 1990 was all of these things. Not sure about now.

That was simply the BEST I’ve EVER herd Miss Gaga. She sounded incredible! Controlled & pitch perfect. Gaga is NOT just a pop singer, but a full blown VOCALIST! That was beautiful. I was shocked that was her singing tbh.

I would have to agree. The thing is, it wasn’t until a few albums in that madge actually began to play with art and really sell and solidify a message. The ray of light album was relatively late in her career. Give it time. I’m sure with the chops and actual creative mind that gaga has… she will come up with something at some point that will blow us away. Right now, its obvious that she’s focusing more on the idea of her craft and being respected more than her fashion antics and, I for one, think its a genius move. I actually think she shouldve gone this route for the artpop era… something a little more paired back but it looks like she learned her lesson and now she realizes that the audience needs balance. So, with all that said, I’m excited to see/hear what she does next.

Baby, I was strictly talking about RAW LIVE TALENT. When I watch Gaga LIVE & then watch Madonna (in her prime) LIVE. Lady Gaga wins at everything RAW talent. Madonna wins at visuals, production & maybe charisma. But, you have to be blind & deaf… To not see/hear that Gaga sings, dances & overall has more RAW talent as a LIVE performer. But, as I stated before. Madonna wins as a STUDIO artist for sure. I agree, Madonna has WAY better music than Gaga.

Okay Stefani, I see you! I always knew there was a truly talented vocalist beneath the outlandish outfits and pop star persona. I’m not a fan by any stretch but I give credit where it’s due. Gaga absolutely did that! As for the Madonna comparisons, well Madge is The Queen of Pop with the legendary catalog to match and can be given credit for pretty much creating the modern day blueprint for nearly all female pop stars (Gaga included). However, like many on here have pointed out, her actual raw talent has often been questioned but that takes nothing away from her legacy as a pioneer.
Madonna has a far more better catalogue. I guess that’s why ‘Lady Gaga’ raided through it.

Gaga doesn’t, another example of this is her live rendition of ‘Dope’, which was basically inspired by Madonna’s singing style in the Reinvention performance of ‘Lament’, i could go on and on but my point would be mistaken for hate. As for the comparisons between those two, Gaga is a better singer and pianist, Madonna is a better performer, guitarrist, songwritter and producer, both talented in their own way. Someone has a point here, i always use rock musicians to make a comparison between Madonna and good singers. John Lennon, Bruce Sprinsteen, Bob Dylan etc are amazing musicians but nobody’s vocalist, still they are musically superior than any diva, from Whitney to Mariah, Madonna belongs to this category, her artistry leaves all these vocalists in the dust, althought Gaga is more than just a good voice, Madonna is light years ahead of her whdn it comes to know what good music is. I know I am late to this topic, although I felt Gaga did a remarkable job, I can’t help but wonder why wasn’t Christina asked to do the tribute? If anyone has followed her career will know that in majority of her interviews she has praised Etta James and Julie Andrews/Sound of Music as bring her saviors. I know some will argue that she may over sing it but that’s subjective. I wish people would stop acting like she over sings ever song, she has her refined moments. And I honestly believe that with the SOM being so close to her heart, she would have done majestically.
