Yet more US cities will be spared two hours of cat howling courtesy of Rihanna, following the news that yet more Stateside dates on her ‘Last Girl On Earth Tour’ have been scrapped.

In what is no doubt becoming a rather embarrassing episode for Runway RiRi, her tour promoters Live Nation announced today that 3 major city dates have been cancelled due to ‘scheduling conflicts’ (of course):
Due to a change in Rihanna’s schedule, she can no longer appear in Englewood (July 15),Atlanta (July 28) and Noblesville (August 3). Fans who purchased tickets will receive a refund. Rihanna apologizes to her fans and hopes to make it up to them on the next tour.
With ‘scheduling conflicts’ also cited for previously cancelled dates on the North American leg of the tour, it’s as clear as day that this is a poor, yet necessary PR spin job. After all, it’s doubtful the ‘truth’ (that Ms. Fenty’s tour tickets are simply not selling) would look good for anyone.
Interesting to note is the fact that we never hear of ol’ RiRi’s chart contemporaries (such as Beyonce or Lady GaGa) cancelling date after date due to ‘scheduling conflicts’. If anything, they stay ADDING more. Food for thought, no?
UPDATE: Yet another date has been cancelled. This time it’s Denver.

Seven dates, the very first one was last Friday, July 2, remember that one was cancelled because of production, yes that’s the word they used. Canada did not sell out and her concert for tomorrow still has plenty seats, main floor seats. Now in most concerts those are the first ones to go. To be honest I don’t know the truth re these US concerts – maybe she did just book venues that were too large, maybe she’s just more popular outside the US than in, but come-on all this FLOP cr*p is so over the top – ‘Rated R’ was platinum in the UK and the US, Te Amo was a hit in a number of countries round the world, her Eminem collab’ is doing fantastically.

Answer is I haven’t got a clue – fact is the album was Platinum so somewhere in the States a million people paid their cash for the album – yet it seems people don’t want to go to the concerts – you have the opposite effect with Gaga – every concert sold out, extra tour dates being added all the time, yet in the US she still hasn’t hit the 4 million sales mark – that’s poor when you compare it to her UK sales of 1.5 million and her sales everywhere else around the world. Perhaps its the style of concert with Gaga putting on more of a ‘Show’ and just having that personality which lifts her up into the superstar category (been to a couple of her shows here in UK) – I know people say Rihanna is a bit static live (never been to a Rihanna concert). Maybe at the end of the day there are just artists who’ll always do better on record than live. Anyway that’s just some thoughts from a Fan of both of them.

OK strictly speaking that’s true, but all sales figures are really shipment figures. And yes as I said Gaga as a performer is on a different level (can’t say re B or Mariah as I’ve never seen them live, but assume they’re pretty d*mn good). Maybe its just people in the US go to fewer concerts so are only prepared to go to what they view as the very best? Here in the UK most of my friends go to quite a few in a year – sometimes a big gig like Gaga, sometimes a smaller more intimate gig with say La Roux – guess I’m lucky I get to see so many and get paid for it rather than having to pay.

Rihanna isn’t up there with the people who can sell out these huge US arenas – the Brit, B, Justin and Gagas of this world. She should do smaller venues because her performing isn’t at their level, so people are less willing to shell out a considerably greater amount to see her in concert, in comparison to the price of her album.
If you PERFORM like the aforementioned people, THEN you can charge whatever at these arenas. Rih has improved, but she still is nowhere near these people performance wise.

Also you have to remember not all people that buy albums go to concerts. If people know you are not going to entertain them they will not go. Rihanna award shows, talk shows and music shows performances show people that she’s not an entertainer. To be completely honest she basically sucks and is quite boring on stage. Not to take anything away from her. Also take into account that Rihanna has never done an arena tour ever by herself in US. She was never a headliner before. This is her first time doing it here in America. So she is not known for selling out shows here.
I’m the type of person. If I know I’ll be bored at your concert I will not attend. It’s the reason why most of the people I love are true performances or entertainers. Rihanna I like some of her songs they are catchy but it will never make me go see her in concert by herself. Maybe with other acts but her headlining? NEVER.

Gaga recorded her album whilst on tour and it’s done and dusted. Plus she actually does the music and songwriting, unlike Rihanna who just ‘sings’. Rihanna has released a record every year since she came out, but has never had to cancel (this many?) dates before now.
It’s not her VISA or prior commitments. She’s not selling. She’s not a performer. I wouldn’t pay lots of money to see someone walk up and down a stage, hear backing singers sing more and better than the star act, or see dancers do all the work whilst the ‘singer’ grabs her crotch. I really don’t think this speaks toward Rihanna’s popularity, per se. It really shows that the American public just doesn’t think of her as a touring act (let alone a headliner). Other artists have made their mark touring around the world and building their brand. Rihanna’s numerous successful years in the business and long list of hit singles and albums speak for themselves. I remember a few years ago when Christina Aguilera went on tour. They were practically giving away tickets in St. Louis to try and fill the ampitheatre. I wouldn’t have said Christina wasn’t popular at that time. She just isn’t known as a tour headliner. Britney… yes. Madonna… yes. Beyonce… yes. Gaga… yes. It is what it is. I can’t say I’m the biggest Rihanna fan in the world but I like her. I’m just looking at this objectively (unlike many people who have already commented).

OK I can’t comment on her live performances as I’ve never seen her live – only 2nd hand live via videos (if that makes any sense) – but end of her career comments seem a little premature. Te Amo flopping overseas?? I mean what?? It was in the top 20 in several countries in Europe and even top 10 in some – OK not up to the performance of some of her previous stuff, but not bad enough to expect her to be serving your Starbucks anytime soon.

Her overall expenses has to be great, she announced just how big this setting up would be, so I know it has to be very costly.
