Nike on Lil Nas X’s ‘Satan Shoes’: ‘We Did NOT Design or Endorse Them’

Published: Monday 29th Mar 2021 by Rashad

Lil Nas X set headlines alight over Palm Sunday weekend when he announced a partnership with MSCHF to release 666 pairs of ‘Satan Shoes’ – a Nike Air Max that reportedly contained a drop of human blood in each pair (as we reported here).

Due in stores Monday (March 29), the collector’s item nabbed headlines for its satanic design which featured upside-down crosses, a pentagram attached to the shoe laces, and “x/666” in red embroidery on each pair.

As news of the kicks treaded on trending status, some commenters began slamming Nike for their involvement with the endorsement – a rumor the shoe giants quickly squashed.

In a statement released to NBC News, Nike revealed:

“We do not have a relationship with Little Nas X or MSCHF,” the company said in a statement. “Nike did not design or release these shoes and we do not endorse them.”

The design and Nike’s reported (now denied) involvement weren’t the only things earning thumbs down from detractors – many were none-too-pleased with the associated price tag.

As the Bible scripture Luke 10:18 is also emblazoned on the side of the shoes (which tells the story of Satan’s expulsion from heaven), the sneakers – in an effort to emphasize the Bible verse reference – are going for $1,018 a pair.

This keeps getting worse and worse. I think they should stop promoting, let everything die down, move on to the next single. He can make a lucrative yet unproductive and unpatriotic career out of make TikTok songs.

You know so much about the industry right? Then you know this is a PR nightmare from the pits of hell. He was trying to be creative and now the s*** is in shambles, the company he partnered with to sell his show are being sued, his tweets are building a stronger case against him, pll are not talking about the video because it’s good. Ppl are not feeling this and the public is fickle, it’s going to take alot to comeback from this if he continues with it and not let it die down.

It’s Camillas Racist Boot Camp all over again.

Reading really isn’t folks’ strong suit. There are entire articles where MSCHF discusses their rework and resell business model lol. They have a Jesus Shoe with Holy Water too. Be mad at that lol.

“The controversial shoes, which are the brainchild of Brooklyn-based creative label MSCHF, were released online on Tuesday.

The repurposed Nike Air Max 97s trainers, which were bought at retail value, have been transformed to make several references to Jesus Christ, although Nike has no affiliation with the creation.”
