Now, as the year draws to a close, That Grape Juice is reflecting on the occasions that rocked – and to some degree maybe even reshaped – the Urban and Pop cultural landscape as we know it.

A week after scoring a ratings victory with the Amber Riley and Raven Goodwin-led ‘Single Black Female’ (as we reported here), Lifetime marched out ‘Line Sisters’ – its latest film in a line of suspense thrillers.

Toplined by an all-star cast that included Letoya Luckett, Drew Sidora, Kierra Sheard-Kelly, and Ta’Rhonda Jones, the foursome brought to life the fictional tale of a group of sorority sisters who reunited over a decade after pledging only to be haunted by a secret from their past:  the mysterious death of the dean of pledges.

During its February 12 premiere, ‘Line’ moved to the front of the line of the night’s top trending topics on Twitter.  Look inside to see how that fanfare translated to viewership.

Music superstars Kirk Franklin and Mya Harrison were just a few of the big names tapped to help Lifetime bring in some holiday cheer this year via their annual #ItsaWonderfulLifetime campaign, with each GRAMMY winner toplining one of the network’s most highly anticipated showings.

With Franklin’s ‘A Gospel Christmas’ and Harrison’s ‘My Favorite Christmas Melody’ premiered December 4 and December 5 respectively, the musical-laden Lifetime movies packed a potent, 1-2 punch on the critical and ratings front.

Big news for The Liddles!

The third installment of Lifetime’s ‘Merry Liddle Christmas’ film franchise, ‘Merry Liddle Christmas Baby’ (starring and executive produced by GRAMMY-winning singer Kelly Rowland), aired Saturday night (November 27).

And if the viewership figures are anything to judge by, the Liddles have garnered quite the dedicated audience since first arriving on TV screens in 2019.

Already thrilling audiences aboard the BET+ reboot of ‘First Wives Club,’ GRAMMY-winning singer-actress Jill Scott did it again – this time trying her hand at a movie-adapted reboot of Michael Landon‘s classic TV series, ‘Highway to Heaven.’

The Stacey K. Black-directed film, which aired on Saturday (November 6), saw Scott soar as an angel who returns to Earth to help troubled students and families through her work as a school counselor in disguise.

Also starring Barry Watson, Ben Daon, Robert Moloney, Victoria Bidewell, and more, look inside to see the viewership figures ‘Highway’ drove to Lifetime over the weekend.

Lifetime delivered a ratings double knockout thanks to TD Jakes Enterprises, which acted as the producer for two movies for the women’s network:  ‘Lust’ (starring Keri Hilson) and ‘Envy’ (starring Serayah).

Both productions served as film adaptations of Victoria Christopher Murray books of the same names and launched back-to-back weekend premieres as part of the channel’s ‘Seven Deadly Sins Story’ franchise.

First boasting a ratings win with the critically acclaimed ‘Lust’ (April 10), ‘Envy’ – which also starred GRAMMY winning singer-songwriter Kandi Burruss, Da Brat, DC Young Fly, Donovan Christie Jr., Gregory Alan Williams, Clifton Powell and ‘The Game’ star Hosea Chanchez – followed with even higher viewership!

Acting continues to agree with multi-hyphenate diva Keri Hilson.

The GRAMMY-nominated singer-songwriter may be best known for topping music charts with tunes like ‘Pretty Girl Rock,’ ‘Turnin Me On,’ ‘Knock You Down,’ and more (as well as writing hits for the likes of Britney Spears, Mary J. Blige, and others).  But – as evidenced by her appearances in a string of successful feature films on the big and small screen since the early 2010’s – her talents aren’t limited to the studio and stage.

No further evidence is needed than her latest movie venture, ‘Lust.’

Despite criticism over costuming, casting, and the controversy surrounding the portrayal (or lack thereof) of group member DJ Spinderella, female Rap pioneers Salt-N-Pepa‘s Lifetime biopic soldiered on to small screens Saturday (January 23).

The Mario Van Peebles-directed endeavor – executive produced by Queen Latifah as well as the group’s members Cheryl ‘Salt’ James and Sandra ‘Pepa’ Denton – chronicled the duo’s rise in the male-dominated Hip Hop world and even spotlighted a number of personal struggles the ladies endured along the way.

Their lives played out alongside a soundtrack of their greatest hits (i.e. ‘Push It,’ ‘Whatta Man,’ ‘Shoop,’ etc.), look inside to see just how many people tuned in for the action.

2019’s Kelly Rowland-led ‘Merry Liddle Christmas’ movie was such a ratings winner for Lifetime the network rebooted the franchise for a part 2 – 2020’s ‘Merry Liddle Christmas Wedding.’

Coming as the first holiday sequel in the channel’s history, the pressure was on for the film to meet or exceed the performance of its predecessor.

Refreshed Nielsen numbers reveal it did just that.
