While some artists exercise their outspokenness when convenient, Miley Cyrus is doing so while in the firing line.

In 2013, the former Disney darling ditched the bubblegum Pop of her earlier bops and embraced a more hard-hitting Hip-Hop sound and aesthetic for the ‘Bangerz’ project. A move which yielded her both hits and headlines.

It wasn’t without its issues, though. For, many took offence with what they felt was the star playing dress-up with layer upon layer of cultural appropriation.

The sentiment was lent credence years later when Cyrus, then pushing a more Country kissed project named ‘Younger Now,’ distanced herself from Hip-Hop and claimed it pushed her out.

Now, with recent EP ‘She Is Coming’ seeing her return to similar sonics, a viral video – ironically uploaded by a fan – has probed the problematic nature of this.

Catching wind of this, Cyrus responded.

Not even two days after the premiere of his duet with Eric Bellinger, ‘Type a Way’ (click here to watch), Brown’s making way for the accompanying visual for the remix to DaniLeigh‘s latest single, ‘Easy.’  Found aboard her debut album, ‘The Plan,’ the ‘Easy’ clip sees the two trade moves in a dance studio as she coos the song’s infectious lyrics:

“Make you feel lucky, lucky / Make you wanna love me, love me,” Dani sings. “Baby, when you with me, with me / Got no worries, worries / I love it when you touch me, touch me / Feelin’ so lovely, lovely.”

Amidst an ongoing backlash that’s seen her resign from the boards of colleges and nonprofit organizations as well as being dropped by her publisher, author Linda Fairstein – the former Manhattan District Attorney’s office prosecutor who led the controversy surrounding the Central Park Five case of the late 80’s – is speaking out against Ava DuVernay, the creator of the television special that’s causing the commotion in the 72-year-old’s personal and professional life.

Titled ‘When They See Us,’ the miniseries (which premiered May 31 on Netflix) recounts the reported mishandling of the case’s evidence (or lack thereof) and the impact the unwarranted guilty verdict had on the Central Park Five’s respective lives.  In a new think piece presented in ‘Wall Street Journal,’ Fairstein asserts Duvernay’s depiction of her willfully neglecting key aspects of the investigation that led to the five’s conviction  (as portrayed by embattled actress Felicity Huffman) is defamatory.

That’s not all she said.  Look inside for more:
