Just days after H.E.R. learned she’d won her first EMMY (putting her just a TONY win away from EGOT status), the singer-songwriter won the Thursday night TV ratings showdown (December 15) thanks to ABC’s ‘Beauty & the Beast’ 30th anniversary special.

In courting stage-blazing performances from the likes of Nicki Minaj, Jack Harlow, BLACKPINK, J. Balvin, Bad Bunny, and more (as we reported here), the 2022 MTV VMAs packed just enough punch and star power to help reverse the ailing annual ceremony’s ratings.

25 years after Brandy and Whitney Houston led a groundbreaking reimagining of ‘Cinderella’ as America’s first Black princess and Fairy Godmother duo, the surviving cast members reunited for ABC’s ‘Cinderella: the Reunion, A Special Edition of 20/20.’

Broadcast Tuesday (August 23), the one-hour special – which aired as part of Disney’s World Princess Week – collected commentary from the 1997 film’s stars Whoopi Goldberg, Bernadette Peters, Jason Alexander, Veanne Cox, Paolo Montalban, Victor Garber, and more while exploring the EMMY-nominated movie’s cultural impact.

What’s more, the network aired ‘Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella’ for the first time in over two decades directly after the special.

The back-to-back television events served as quite the 1-2 punch for ABC, helping it secure some handsome viewership figures during Tuesday night’s primetime ratings race.

Much like the 2021 Billboard Music Awards before it, this year’s iteration of the show may have packed star power aplenty with dynamic performances from the likes of Megan Thee Stallion, Latto, Maxwell, Jack Harlow, Burna Boy, and more (as we reported here), but the assembly of hitmakers still wasn’t enough to win the night’s ratings war.

Also like last year’s edition, the 2022 #BBMAs made history for the ceremony as its lowest-rated to date.

Despite the combined forces of BTS, Justin Bieber, Silk Sonic, Olivia Rodrigo, Lil Nas X, and Billie Eilish on its performance roster, they – alongside the other chart-toppers who took to the stage – weren’t enough to Sunday’s GRAMMYs from failing to attract viewers (April 3).

Although early Nielsen ratings reports don’t indicate the lowest tune-in the Trevor Noah-hosted affair has ever courted, it was pretty darn close.

A week after scoring a ratings victory with the Amber Riley and Raven Goodwin-led ‘Single Black Female’ (as we reported here), Lifetime marched out ‘Line Sisters’ – its latest film in a line of suspense thrillers.

Toplined by an all-star cast that included Letoya Luckett, Drew Sidora, Kierra Sheard-Kelly, and Ta’Rhonda Jones, the foursome brought to life the fictional tale of a group of sorority sisters who reunited over a decade after pledging only to be haunted by a secret from their past:  the mysterious death of the dean of pledges.

During its February 12 premiere, ‘Line’ moved to the front of the line of the night’s top trending topics on Twitter.  Look inside to see how that fanfare translated to viewership.

The powers of Dr. Dre, Mary J. Blige, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, and Kendrick Lamar combined to deliver one of the Super Bowl’s most talked about halftime shows ever Sunday (February 13).

And if their brigade of hits flying to the top of real-time sales tallies wasn’t enough indication of how well their showing was received, a gander at early ratings tally should do the trick.
