Drake Performs ‘Find Your Love’ On ‘Leno’

Published: Thursday 24th Jun 2010 by Trent

Drake performed ‘Find Your Love’ on ‘The Tonight Show with Jay Leno’ last evening. The track, which stands as the 2nd single from his ‘Thank Me Later’ LP, has thus far climbed to #5 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #3 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. Peep the performance below:

There is not doubt that Drake is a gifted lyricist but as a lead vocalist his abilities seem a bit questionable. He seemed off-key and out of breath for most of this performance, which may cause some to wonder if he is nothing more than a studio singer. Either way, Drake is definitely one of the most interesting acts to emerge in quite some time and I eager to see what else he has to offer.

Thoughts?

this performance is the worst performance I ever seen.Even worst than a Rihanna performance. He cant sing.
And Trent Kanye West wrote & produce this song.It is a left over of 808&heartbreak

  2. thatmangojuice June 24, 2010

  3. ADE June 24, 2010

  4. wtf June 24, 2010

love this track but the whole album is such a boreeeeee…i wonder if he will keep up the good sales..i see the album dipping quick and not having a long shelve life..imo!!

  5. Nika June 24, 2010

    @WTF – agreed!

  6. teflon boy June 24, 2010

Total studio singer…, and that’s not hate, he uses autotune to good effect but if ever there was a case in point for the talent levels a singer of the noughties needs to be considered ‘hot’ then this is it. I used to hate on the likes of Ciara for her weak vocals but seriously she’s like Aretha compared to some of these nu-school caterwaulers. In the land (era) of the blind (non-singers) the one-eyed (one-note) man (singer) is KING!

  7. royalkev June 24, 2010

I agree ADE, I am feeling that song! … but that was as bad as it gets. He needed background singers to drown him out! He’s off to a good start, why ruin things now?

  8. dakkylove June 24, 2010

Drake…one word, get like Kanye.get Background singers. work on your Mic. and go get vocal lessons…love you still.he is a rapper not a singer so i wasn’t expecting much.

  9. mr.M June 24, 2010

  11. MADONNA June 24, 2010

  12. UGh June 24, 2010

He doesn’t sound off key to me but his voice isn’t strong.

  13. stan June 24, 2010

leave the singing to the singers

  14. lisa June 24, 2010

HOW YALL GONE COMPARE HIM TO CIARA,
CIARA HAS A BEAUTIFUL SWEET VOICE PERIOD!

  15. rob June 24, 2010

i applaud him for singing live , when others would lip sync , he was in tune , never cracked , you dont have to be a powerhouse to be a singer, he sounded like the track n thats enough for me. if u use auto-tune , i think you should strip it down when performing live and thats just what he did .

don’t compare him to ciara , compare him to cassie

  16. DANBOFFICIAL (AALIYAH/RIHANNA/XTINA) STAN) June 24, 2010

eyebrows tried his best and FAILED miserably.

    he can’t sing for s***.

I was actually cringing watching/listening to this.

    deary, deary me.

  17. Tblack June 24, 2010

Wow…there was a time not long ago when someone like this would have been chased off the stage by Sandman. It’s pretty pathetic of the music buying audience to turn over money to this dude. Who among you could not have done this performance in the shower? Seriously. This was offensive.

  18. Lady Gaga’s Invisible Twin Marty June 24, 2010

Dude sounded tired as soon as the song started… WTF?

  19. CRE8TIVE_i June 24, 2010

  22. Lili-loves-Michael June 24, 2010

    The band sounded great tho.

  23. That’s How They Get You June 24, 2010

This song is so mediocre it’s not even funny. An average 12-year-old with an old SWV sample and a 808 could come up with the same thing. And how elementary are the lyrics and melody? I can enjoy it, like I can enjoy eating a bowl of Fruity Pebbles (no pun intended) but I still know it’s crap. Plus talk about utter lack of stage presence.

  24. teflon boy June 24, 2010

    @Tblack

^That’s exactly the problem, the ordinary man has wrestled the music industry out of the hands of the talented and now we celebrate the mediocrity that’s put out in place of the quality that used to be respected and expected. I really like Drake’s music and respect him as a lyricist but the reality is that 10 years ago he would have been behind the scenes where he clearly belongs and someone more talented wouldv’e delivered his material.

One could argue it’s great that the writers and producers are now getting their shine but just because they are great writers/producers does not mean the singer/performer is now obsolete. Michael Jackson might’ve written the odd song in his career but would Off The Wall, Thriller and Bad really have gone down in history as the baddest albums/era’s of all time if Quincy Jones and Bruce Swedien had sang and performed them instead of MJ? Of course not. As likeable and talented as those two behind the scenes hit makers probably are they weren’t front men and they knew it…, and that’s my problem with the bulk of new school acts in heavy rotation. They’re producers/writers who’ve cut out the middle man therefore we as the public have to now listen to what could really be great tracks performed by proper talent being performed by buffoons who’s lack of talent is laughable at best and damn depressing at worst.

LOOK, THIS D***** IS THE LITTLE BRAT FROM DEGRASSI HIGH SCHOOL DUMB F*** TV SHOW IN TORONTO. HE’S GOT ALL YOU IDIOTS WITH COVERS OVER UR EYES. HE’S A NO TALENT. BLAMES URSELVES FOR HIS CAREER STILL MOVING AND NOT GETTING A REAL JOB. JUST A STOOPID RAPPER. BIG DEAL, HE CAN TALK. SMFH.

  26. KyKy June 24, 2010

I think the key change is killin him, I mean he’s not the strongest singer but I don’t think his choice to change the key of the song was a smart move

  27. BEYONCE VS. WORLD June 24, 2010

I LIKED IT DIDN’T EXPECT HIM TO SING LIKE NE-YO

  28. ~AalexisR~ The Summer King (The Bahamas) June 24, 2010

I won’t knock him for trying. You should post the documentary. He’s getting better.

  29. Keesha June 24, 2010

Uh, Drake can barely carry a tune. That performance sucked!

  30. Tru Voice June 24, 2010

UMMMMMM, well he’s trying, I guess. I saw the documentary and he’s taking lessons and lord knows auto tune in the studio helps. Thank God he had a good band. And Singers she only slow there songs down at the beginning and “break it down” if the cans sing thee ass off, a la Whitney, Ne-yo, Beyonce. Like the song though. But I guess he REALLY want s to be a singer.

You cant be blesses in every area, can’t sing like Whitney and rap like Jay-Z , just an example because they are the 2 greats in their field.

  31. MRPONTON June 25, 2010

BEGINNING WAS HORRIBLE! LOL BUT DRAKE THE HOMIE

  32. ~TeAM WeeZY~ June 25, 2010

I love Drake and I absolutely LOVE this song, but um Drake, baby, NEVER sing live again! K? Thanks!

  33. 0beloved June 25, 2010

    ROFL! THAT IS ALL……..

  34. JAYLA June 25, 2010

AND HE IS GETTIN PAID FOR HIS NON-SINGING ABILTIES LOL… ARE YOU ALL GETTING PAID TO COME ON THATGRAPEJUICE.COM AND TYPE THINGS ABOUT HIM??? I THINK NOT LMAO… GO HEAD ON DRIZZY AND KEEP DOING YOUR THING SWEETIE!!!!

  35. My name is Larry June 25, 2010

He’s cute in this performance. I don’t think hes a great singer at all but when he tries its so cute.

  36. Jadakiss June 25, 2010

The hell are ya’ll listening too!?! There is no excuse for being off-key. HE CAN’T SING! And saying he doesn’t sound that bad is bs! He’s a great rapper and performer, but singing is not his forte! He should have lip synced or better yet put the auto-tune effect on his voice. They do that in live concerts.

IF you paid close attention you would see the actual track played during parts of the song he COULDN’T HIT!!!! He couldn’t hit all the parts in the song! This song doesn’t contain any vocal gymnastics or dynamics and he couldn’t even hit it! That clearly shows he is not a vocalist…he’s not even on the levels of Ciara. Ciara can at least hit the notes she laid in the studio.

Now before you say I’m hating, I’m a musical theatre performer/major so i know the difference between having an off night or just not able to deliver. And Drake as of right now can’t deliver as a singer. But people can improve. He has a vocal teacher, hopefully she’ll help him improve. Love the song, album, his whole essence. But this was a bad performance point blank!

  37. bluekid July 3, 2010

I thought he sound a whole lot better than yodeling goat killer Hoanna.

  38. EXPOSED July 3, 2010

  40. joe sullivan July 4, 2010

i read comments first… but it wasnt horrible! better then rihanna i think

  41. Jay’Rodd July 5, 2010

It wasnt as bad as I thought it would be based on the comments….

  42. TRAYCEE B July 8, 2010

I think that the performance was good, it wasnt a great performance, but truthfully Drake is not a performer, so I dont really expect great performing. He is a creator and artist of music. Drake is about feeling the music. He is an emotional person He’s not a flashy performer with all the triming and bells and whistles. He’s simple and as humbling as that is, it can also be a downfall because it forces ppl to actually pay attention to what the performer is doing and saying. So if you mess up everyone notices…
