Shakira sat down for in interview with Youtube to discuss her upcoming new album which hits stores in September. The world class performer spoke about the record at length and revealed that it will entail a mixture of elements – Rock, Latin and Caribbean music – from her 15 year career. People often underestimate the worldwide force that is Shakira. She is one of the most unique artist on the music scene today and she connects to a wide array of fans. Despite the relatively mediocre sales of her last album, ‘She Wolf’, Shakira can easily outshine her competition once she makes music that reflects who she is as an artist instead of buying into trends like she did on that LP. If ‘Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)’ is any indication of her presence in the industry, then her time at the top is far from over.

Just adore this girl and have done since I was a kid. OK the last album wasn’t like a real success but it still sold like 1.5 million, so it was only a flop for her – lots of artists would love to sell that many. Love her music and her personality. Like the way she dances – makes a difference from the normal dance style most people use. Can’t wait to hear her new stuff.

She always bring something new in the music, dance, look…what I like the most is that she’s good at mixing different element of world culture.
That’s why she’s global and has so many fans around the world.
She wolf album is a solid effort, and “She Wolf” single was a international hit.
Stop comparing artist! Shakira and artists like Rihanna are not on the same league.

Exactly what feature of Shakira’s voice reminds you of a goat? What is she doing with her voice that RiRi isn’t? Don’t get me wrong I love both of them. I don’t think either of them sounds remotely goatlike, but I can’t see how saying Shakira does helps stop people claiming the same about RiRi
The point I made about the sales wasn’t to put a downer on anyone. The point is although Shakira has sold more than Xtina and has more awards than her etc etc and even though I love them both to me its obvious that Xtina has the better voice and more interesting tracks. Do you see where I’m coming from? – I think she’s better than people who I think are great and although I’m not doing it for this reason that gives her more credit than just saying she’s better than people who are no-hope losers.

I really like Shakira, I’ve followed her since her beginning in the music scene. It’s a pity people now can just know her because of her moves and her music videos.
I advice you all to listen to her music before her “blond age”. She made a really big change in order to get massive appeal and to get success among big markets like UK and US.
We Spanish talking people will always remind her because of her great, and different, voice, and because of her amazing lyrics. She lost both things when beginning to sing in English.

Do you mean she lost something permanently when she started singing in English? – or just that her voice is way better in Spanish. If you mean the second I agree with you – anyone can compare ‘Whenever, Wherever’ with ‘Suerte’ and hear the difference straight away. Her voice is way stronger in Spanish, and much sexier so my BF says (OK – and so I say too).

But I don’t think it’s just a matter of voice but also a matter of the type of songs she sings in English. Don’t forget she used to write her own lyrics when she sang in Spanish, and now she doesn’t. English isn’t her mother tongue, and that affects her.
She has evolved from a Latin/rock strong female singer into a stupid blondie female dancer, who also (tries to) sing. She has switched voice and lyrics in favor of looks and moves.
I hope she has earned tons of money by making this change.

Laundry Service was the beginning of her change.
Oral Fixation/ Fijación oral was her fist attemp of getting global appeal collaborating with artists like Alejandro Sanz, Gustavo Cerati, Carlos Santana, Wyclef Jean… and approaching to a more “pure pop” audience (and even trying the “reggeaton” route).
IMHO, she lost musical strength. Fijación oral could still have her lyrical depth… but I’m almost sure she hasn’t been really involved in the making of the English version of her songs.
I’m sorry, but I don’t know if there’s any website where you could find an English translation to all her Spanish songs :/

Some of you sound like fools. She-Wolf wasn’t her strongest effort and it was still an International hit. Shakira is still the biggest Pop star in Latin America. She’s such a great talent. I love how she always reinvents herself. There’s always something new with her. She is a true artist. She is dedicated and knows what she wants. I love how she explained her next project. Can’t say the same for most of your favorites. Most of them do exactly what they are told and are puppets. Shakira knows what she wants and goes in the direction she chooses. While some of you may not be into her music you have to remember she is an International artist. She has fans all over the world to please. I can’t wait for this new album. Go Shaki!!!

Personally, I like how she sings in Spanish cuz her voice is softer but when she hits the high notes her voice becomes powerful and in English her pitch is but loses the raw power and intensity like if you listen to ” No” and “La despedida ” you can tell

She Wolf was Shakira’s absolute best album in my opinion. For heaven sakes, I waited a year for it. They just kept pushing it back… Anyway I hope everyone’s right. I hope this new album is bilingual because I can’t speak Spanish. I mean, I’m in the process of learning, but I won’t learn it all in a month. Anyway have all her albums and can’t wait for the perfume. OMG Shakira is perfecto. Love it when she shakes those hips.
