Must See: Katy Perry Executive Team Explain Two Year ‘Prism’ Promotional Plan

Published: Friday 18th Oct 2013 by David

Without a doubt, Katy Perry‘s ‘Prism‘ is shaping up to be the highly anticipated Pop album of 2013’s Pop quarter.

Filled to the brim with radio ready / well written hits, today marked the project’s release- just days after its lead single ‘Roar’ surpassed US sales of 3 million units…8 weeks after its release.

Now, in what’ll give the more industry inclined members of her fan base ample reason to beam, the executive members of her camp have spilled exciting details on the album’s promotional campaign in an interview with Danyel Smith‘s Billboard.

An interesting read below…

Via Billboard Biz

“Bradford Cobb, Partner, Direct Management Group:

Burning The Wig
“Her burning the blue wig recalling “Teenage Dream” era in a viral video teaser – that was really about shedding the image of before and starting a new era.”

Steve Barnett, chairman/CEO, Capitol Music Group:
It's Official: Universal Names Steve Barnett Chairman/CEO of Capitol Music Group

Steve, Katy; Katy, Steve:
“In the first meeting I had with Katy, we found we shared the philosophy of taking nothing for granted. Last week Universal made history: we had ten songs in the Hot 100 – and Katy was number one [‘Roar,’ Perry’s first single from ‘Prism,’topped the Hot 100 on Sept. 16]. That was fantastic for Universal and [Universal Chairman/CEO] Lucian Grainge, who supports Katy’s vision completely. But it doesn’t matter how many No. 1 singles you have. There is no more important artist or album than this to the company, so we had to have the most massive, far-reaching global plan possible. Put that together with the fact Katy made a fantastic record, and I couldn’t be more thrilled.”

Pop Artist/Quarterback:
“Katy has combined everything great about her last record and taken it to the next level. What she does is really pop art – she’s got an acute awareness of how youth culture works. She’s the quarterback, and we’re along for the ride.”

International, Integration: Incredible

“For me to add Robbie McIntosh, who’s head of international at Capitol – that made a massive difference, integrating her to Universal system. Greg Thompson turned the leak of her single into an advantage. Lucian supports her vision, and she’s embraced Capitol’s acquisition and the Universal team; the key components are all there. It’s been an incredible launch, and handled beautifully.”

A Massive Brilliant Plan
“Domestically, it’s a massive, brilliant plan. Working with management, it’s all been well thought out for an incredible start. Add in to that Katy’s commitment to go to Europe, Australia twice, Japan – for artist to her stature to commit and add on to that is great. Max hole and the incredible Universal team put all that together: it’s fantastic, and the record spells success.”

The Tipping Points

“In every category, Katy is at the forefront of radio. Terrestrial radio has been incredibly supportive; closing the iTunes fest, doing IHeartRadio – those are real tipping points. The promotional team, lead by Dennis Reise, has done an incredible job. Everyone in the company – Dennis, Bob Semanovich, Robbie McIntosh, Ron Spaulding, head of sales, all incredibly important people – understands how important this record is for our redevelopment. Danny Lockwood has been her partner with an incredible run of videos; David Joseph and Ted Kunkel in the UK did a brilliant launch, as did the whole global team. No one in history has achieved what she’s done in that space of time – that’s a credit to Katy.”

Martin Kirkup, partner, Direct Management Group:

On the UMG-Capitol Acquisition:
“The core group of people from Capitol that broke Katy are still with the company, which is huge. Add to that focus an even bigger dynamic. There’s a great new boss in Steve Barnett, who’s all about the artist, and there’s no more powerful group of international assets than what Universal has. We’re still at early stages, really enjoying these relationships, seeing the extension of reach we can have. They can grow with Katy and us over the next few albums.”

Old School To Viral:
“How does she announce that an album is coming, and the title, and the date? What we came up with was so old school, it felt brand new: put it all on a truck and send it around America. That started in late July, and then went viral.”

Technocrats:

“The ‘PRISM’ launch utilizes every form of technology for fans to hear the music and taste the variety of the album. We worked very closely with the team at iTunes to do things that have never been done before. What we’re doing with iTunes is happening globally, instantaneously, and simultaneous. In England, however, the strategy is slightly different, but in most territories we put out “Roar” as an official single, then released ‘Dark Horse’ as a ‘instant gratification’ buzz track a few weeks later to highlight the pre-order option; the preorder just pops up on the computer. It’s a way to immerse the fan into the experience and say, ‘Hey, Katy has a lot of singles, but there’s a whole album that’s very deep.’”

Label Love:
“Greg Thompson has been our longtime partner at Capitol, and Dennis Reise who’s the head of promo – they make a great team. We love what they’ve done.”

Two Christmases:
“Only in June did Katy ask us to sit down and think about deadlines, and come up with a plan to release a record; creatively, she was ready. When we did that, she felt it was far enough along to meet fourth quarter deadlines. Our advice was get the album out before Halloween, and do a long run into the end of the year. Two Christmases is our ambition.”

The Evolution of Katy:
“Katy is not into repeating herself, nor are we. This is a very different kind of record from “Teenage Dream”: we had to have a strategic campaign that reflects the evolution Katy has gone through.”

That’s Her On Twitter
“Most important is her connecting with her fans – that’s special. She can reach out to 55 million friends on Facebook, 44 million on Twitter. It’s her – her voice.  That fan connection is what we keep in mind at all times. The fans create the real excitement.”

Greg Thompson, EVP Promotion & Marketing, Capitol Records:

Katy’s Bigger, Better Army:
“It’s a funny journey Katy’s been on. When Universal Music acquired EMI, they were very respectful to keep Katy’s team intact. At the same time, they’ve invested even more resources and brought in a great music man in Steve Barnett, and people like [Universal International CEO/Chairman] Max Hole and [Universal Music President of Global Marketing] Andrew Kronfeld to drive the global picture. In an interesting way, Katy got a bigger and better army to support her.”

‘Roar’s Roar:
“We began with the release of the first single, ‘Roar,’ which was immediately successful. ‘Roar’ shot into power rotation at radio stations at multiple formats – hot AC, top 40 – it’s amassing huge hot 100 audience numbers. Releasing lyric videos built up to the VMAs for her first TV performance of the campaign. And then we came with the classic Katy video which was fun and empowering. Who doesn’t love a video with an elephant? It was an exciting way to roll out the ‘Roar’ success story around the globe – the song went to #1 in many countries. It was just the first chapter of a great novel, though.”

GMAs, High Schools, B-Day:
“The partnership with Good Morning America is creating a while different level of engagement, while giving back to fans. We went on GMA on Sept. 6 to reveal the album. Then we came up with a contest where every high school in America can create their own ‘Roar’ video and show their spirit. That pays off on Friday, Oct. 25  – Katy’s birthday during street week, during fall football season  – when she goes to the school with the best video. It’s a great promotional opportunity.”

‘PRISM’s Multi-Year Lifespan:
“Katy has a massive global footprint, and it’s important for her to touch all fans around globe and let all the markets have their moment in the rollout. This album is going to have a long deep campaign, with multiple singles; its lifespan should take us through a couple years.”

Truck Stop Tweets:
“It was brilliant idea to launch album by painting a truck gold with the title and street date and drive it across America. One minute it was in L.A., the next the Golden Gate Bridge, and then ending up in Brooklyn. Literally, the driver would stop for gas and get mobbed; people at truck stops would tweet photos at Katy of it. The whole point of that was to create an experience with the fans – one they can drive, see, and touch. It became an adventure, and the truck became star in its own right.”

A screenshot of Katy Perry’s Twitter profile on Oct. 17.

The Power of 45,234,029:
“When artist amasses 44 million [now 45,234,029] followers on Twitter, you can speak directly to a huge amount of people. We super-serve Katy’s socials via some key partners – for example, we unlocked a teaser through Shazam on the back of the VMAs, and redid her website for a fresh look, and Instagram as well.”

Steve Jensen, Partner, Direct Management Group:

To Be Real:
“Katy’s social media is authentic, so fans take it seriously. She’s been accused of having the label buy her followers, but that never happened. If she mentions her tour, or a movie she liked, it all comes from her directly. If we want to announce a tour, we’ll have Katy tweet it. Everything comes from her directly. That gets more attention than a press release.”

Barnett’s Perspective:
“Steve [Barnett] is a former manager himself. He understands what needs to be done and how to coordinate the record company’s resources with the management team.”

Why the Truck?
“The purpose of the truck was obvious – announce the release date. It took on a life of its own, going to landmarks like the arch in St. Louis, Graceland and Niagra Falls. The plan was to have it out there a couple weeks, and then meet up with Katy in New York for the VMAs and present the song to Z100. Fans had so much fun with it, though, it stayed out for a couple months…There was a lot of humor in the viral videos.”

The Perfect Term For Katys Brand of Branding
“‘Organic’ is the perfect term to use with Katy’s branding. We honestly don’t couple her music with her brands – we try to keep it separate. Coty just did the global launch of her Killer Queen fragrance in Berlin: they would’ve loved to have Katy’s new music in the commercials, and package the perfume with the cd, but we’re trying to keep music and branding separate. There’s overlap, but they’re two different lives. We can’t overly commercialize the experience if you buy the music.”

PopChips & WalMart:
“We’re doing some things in retail, putting things together to help raise awareness. At Wal-Mart, we have a display created by PopChips for a zine-pack special edition album exclusive to Wal-Mart with a 60 page booklet featuring lyrics and photos.”

International Promo:
“Kary did IHeartRadio fest, and is going to do iTunes in the U.K. CBS Radio is also involved in events. We’re tracking around the world over the next six months, doing television and radio in Australia, Japan, France, and Holland. The world is so small these days, and Katy has been a global brand from the absolute beginning.”

Q2 Tour
:
“We’ll announce at the end of this year a massive tour set for the second quarter next year that will travel around the globe.”

I wish RN told us what the plan for UPL was 2bh.

  4. Baduizm05 October 18, 2013

Thanks for sharing this, I rarely comment because I don’t care to fight with most of the imbeciles who hang around here but I jumped when I started to read how interesting this all is. Why would they release the album on a Friday though?

  5. QueenoftheNavy October 18, 2013

They are not messing about this era. Take notes Beyonce.

    • Savannah October 18, 2013

Katy is the lessor in this situation, remember that dear.

  6. MuiMui October 18, 2013

    Good for Katy.

  7. SweetDestiny October 18, 2013

She’s in the lucky position of having a label that wants her to succeed. Def Jam don’t care enough about Mariah to give her their all and it’s pissing me off.

  8. ENOUGH ONIKA (KMART QUEEN) October 18, 2013

Hm, good luck! I don’t see a generic/basic album lasting that long but she does have generic music that’s perfect for radio so who knows!

  9. cake like lady gaga October 18, 2013

LOL NOT at Katy trolling the katy kats!!! All that hype for prism and it turned out to be very basic.

Prism is more basic than basic itself. People will download that mess and won’t want to buy the original copy. I mean, who wants to waste their money on THAT basic mess??

We all know that @trollbird is definitely NOT buying the original copy.

    • RoyaLorde October 18, 2013

You say basic, I say straightforward.
Gaga says Born This Way, I say overproduced piece of self indulgent construction noise posing as electro.

      • miao October 18, 2013

lol @ you *plays pop music masterpiece: Edge Of Glory

    • Kiss my a** October 18, 2013

” who wants to waste their money on THAT basic mess??”

Teenage white girls and arrested development adult homosexual males LOL.

        LOL yassss sis..

        BASIC!!!

      • Kiss my a** October 18, 2013

Yup, And you do realize that this applies to lady gaga too right?

        #NoShade Sis

      • cake like lady gaga October 18, 2013

        No I’m not aware..

Lady GaGa makes good music for every music lover. Not like katy perry who makes music for f***.

So I think u are wrong sis

      • Kiss my a** October 18, 2013

Prism leaked in full 2 days ago 🙄

  12. RebelleMichele October 18, 2013

All the R&B girls need are people like this on their team 2bfair. Most of them have nice managers but they don’t have label execs willing to fight in their corner or enough money to afford big campaigns like Katy can. The last R&B girl to have a big wig on her side was Keyshia because she had Ron Fair and she’s still doing better than the other girls today because of the work he put in when he worked with her.

    • BrandNuStar October 18, 2013

Good point. The problem is that the execs have no reason to invest in R&B because it’s not doing anything anywhere. Look at all the money they wasted on Ciara only for the album to flop. I think it’s a right balance of good music and good money. Ciara had the money but has horrible music.

    • Savannah October 18, 2013

R&B girls don’t sell, so execs aren’t gonna risk investing in them. The highest selling R&B female album thus far in 2013 is Fantasia and she only sold 270k. Tamar is behind her at 200k. The rest haven’t even sold 150k copies. Low sales = low budget.

    • Mary Mary Why You Buggin’ October 18, 2013

I agree with you 100%. Yet, Keyshia has only sold 7.2 million albums total with the direction of Ron Fair. I’m a huge fan but that’s not very impressive when considering 90’s R&B album sales.

The fact is R&B is no longer the priority. They will continue to receive scraps, while pop gets the main course even though current mainstream pop is vapid and generic.

      • FAF October 18, 2013

sorry sis but Ciaras new album was wayyy fresher than brandy’s

      • Mariah Slaaays October 18, 2013

Lmao! Brandy gave VOCALS, harmonies, beats and real lyrics. Ciara gave whispering and ghetto playground chants.
        Brandy – 200k
        Cici – 110k

  13. MuiMui October 18, 2013

It is going to be a fight to the finish line for
    Chart Domination.
Who’s going to come out on top, this is shaping up to be very interesting.

  14. QueenCeline October 18, 2013

The only R&B ladies that deserve Katy type funding are K Michelle, Brandy, Elle, Melanie, Monica and Janelle. At the end of the day, these are the only whose music matches what their hype is supposed to be but just don’t have the means to really get the GPs attention.

Tamar is poor live singer and is only respected because Vince TOLD her to play the grown and mature card.

Kelly Rowland has no ambition and literally doesn’t care about having her own legacy.

Fantasia and Keyshia already have their label’s support so they’re fine, but the rest need to step their game up in the studio and pick better songs because time isn’t on their side.

How many years are you going to struggle? How many years are your fans going to have to beg you to promote your music? What will it take for you to see that if you don’t go hard now history WILL forget you.

If Paula A, Karyn W, Apollonia, Sheila and Vanity 6 don’t get credit for what they did in the 80s, why does Kelly think people are going to give her credit in twenty years time when those girl worked ten times harder than she does.

  15. cake like lady gaga October 18, 2013

This basic album only has 3 great songs (out of 16), the rest are just fillers. International Smile, Roar and Dark Horse are the ONLY good songs on this flop album..

It will flop so hard because katy stans don’t support their fave, they rather download illegal copies on Zippyshare and are too broke to buy concert tickets to support their fave, so that is BASIC Prism will flop!!!

    #TRUTH

    • Kiss my a** October 18, 2013

the only song i like is International Smile everything else is s***.

    • NO(Halo My Name) October 18, 2013

You’re always doing the f****** most…. When Artpoop comes out I hope you suck enough d**** to make sure it goes platinum. Make sure you don’t use too much teeth. Bye

      • ok October 18, 2013

Agreed, little munters prostitute themselves to help gaga’s sales. They are forever pressed over Katy

      • NO(Halo My Name) October 18, 2013

I will be honest, even though I may find some of katy’s music childish I would support her. I like Katy not on a stan level but as someone who just likes some of her music. Moronsters always tearing down artist just like their fav did to xtina.

      • ok October 18, 2013

Katy is doing so well and they just attack! I’m not a Stan of hers either but I like her stuff she’s fun. Ugh don’t even get me started on the whole gag and Xtina thing lmao, but I will say they are pressed by her… By everyone in fact they’re just hateful idgi lol

    • Slayty Perry (By The Grace of God) October 18, 2013

I cant @ you having meltdowns. Didnt you say Applause would end Katy? What happened? Prism will outsell Artflop. Where is Artflop on iTunes with pre-orders again?

  16. LOVE October 18, 2013

I hate to join the antiGaga brigade but I just find the Prism era so refreshing compared to APs.
People want to feel free and happy about themselves and Katy’s music gives them that because it’s fun and carefree. Gaga is so far removed from the world that she doesn’t know what people want and thinks that the general public find her exciting. They don’t. She should have found a balance between being unique and being mainstream but she can’t and that’s why even Miley is outperforming her on every chart.

It’s so sad that she’s only three eras in and people are already bored of her. Madonna may be a lot of things but she was never boring and her music ALWAYS captured people’s heart.

    • Mary Mary Why You Buggin’ October 18, 2013

You make it sound like Gaga is producing avant-garde pop like Bjork, Xiu Xiu, or Purity Ring.

Her music isn’t that complicated. It’s actually very “fun and carefree.” Very easy to digest. If you prefer Katy’s brand of pop–fine. Much more elementary. Much less sophisticated. Much less interesting. But I get the draw. I prefer Gaga’s brand of pop.

Gaga is having a lot of fun on ARTPOP & I don’t think she should produce the basest form of pop music to appeal to the GP.

    • miao October 18, 2013

”Prism era so refreshing compared to APs”. First: What is refreshing about Max Martin/Dr Luke Production? Name one thing! There is NONE! Same old recycled Top40 crap. Same old basic safe boring empty bubble gum McDonald 12yo music! Let’s wait to hear ARTPOP. Let’s wait and watch live performances. Let’s wait for tour numbers. Let’s wait for Lady Gaga/Tony Bennet jazz album. Let’s wait for Lady Gaga/Elton John TV performance. Let’s wait and see Lady Gaga/Jeff Koons/Robert Willson/Marina Abramović collaboration. While waiting for ARTPOP, Google some of these names. Take a note, educate yourself!

      — But Miley has more views on YT and people talk about Miley prostitute act VMA performance!!!!?

      GET THE F*CK OFF!

      • Mary Mary Why You Buggin’ October 18, 2013

        Well said–thank you!!!

  17. cake like lady gaga October 18, 2013

But sis, WHAT DID I DO NOW??

No, I will not be sucking any d****, I WILL BUY THE ORIGINAL COPY OF Artpop. Unlike SOME people on this blog, I support my fave. That’s why I went to the Born This Way Ball when it was in SA, that’s why I bought original copy of The Fame Monster and Born This Way. And I will buy Artpop too.

I do not go around trolling blogs when my fave is in my country, I buy the most expensive ticket to go and support my fave…

    MAD???????

  18. cake like lady gaga October 18, 2013

LOL at you people being mad that I support my fave.. You are pressed because y’all are too broke to go buy your faves music, y’all rather download on mediafire. Too broke to go to ur faves concert..

Stay mad lol, I will remain supporting my fave with all my coinage.

  19. JOHNVIDAL October 18, 2013

This is for those naive kids who really believe all these below average artists “slay” the singles charts effortlessly with no promo, just “being natural”, not “being pretentious” and blah blah blah. When it´s Gaga or her team doing it big, the best they can (which is normal) she is a try hard and is trying to impose her music, when it´s these gilrs they think are just fun and not complicated there´s no problem. LOL
Music industry has always worked like this. If you think Katy Perry or Rihanna´s new releases are not preceded by big promotional campaigns and support, then you are totally delusional. That´s the difference beyween today and music industry 20 years ago. This crazy support used to be for HUGE talents. It was still unfair to some other talented people who didn´t have the biggest of the supports, but it was bearable, true talent was on top. Now these gilrs are getting the shine from their labels, and each label only supports one or two of their artists this monumental way per year, so uber talented people who have it all are destined to flop. Janelle Monae´s second album released in September is epic. And Celine´s new two songs (and whole album I suppose) is way better pop (and with real vocals) than what these gilrs are releasing these last months, but she won´t have the support from radio, so her singles won´t chart (Celine´s case is not to worry about cos she´ll sell the right amount of album regardless, and it´s not like she needs to sell anyfucking thing anymore, but these young talented artists won´t never make it).

    • WOK October 18, 2013

F*** YOU!!!!!!! I AM SICK OF YOU UGLY OLD LIFELESS ASS INSULTING PEOPLE. EVERYONE HAS RIGHT TO DECIDE ABOUT MUSIC PREFERENCE, YOU CAN’T JUDGE OTHER PEOPLE. YOUR MUSIC TASTE IS, IF YOU ASK ME, PURE S***. GENERIC, OVERRATED CRINGE-WORTHY DEPRESSIVE BALLADS FROM WHITNEY/MARIAH, THAT’S WHAT YOU LIKE RIGHT? PRETTY BASIC MUSIC IF YOU ASK ME. ROCK MUSIC >>> THEIR OVERRATED TRASHY REPETITIVE GENERIC CHEESY BALLADS.

ONCE AGAIN, CELINE/MARIAH/WHITNEY WERE LUCKY TO DEBUTED TWO DECADES AGO WHEN ALBUM SALES WERE BIG. IF THEIR DEBUT WAS IN THIS DECADE, THEY WOULD NEVER SELL NOT EVEN 1/4 OF THEIR SALES. LIKE HER OR NOT, BUT RIHANNA MAKES GOOD POP MUSIC, BETTER THAN GAGA FOR SURE, THAT’S WHY HER SONGS ARE MORE COVERED IN TALENT SHOWS AND MORE PLAYED ON RADIO.

YOU ARE DELUSIONAL, SEEK HELP AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

      • JOHNVIDAL October 18, 2013

        Why are you screaming?
Anyway, yeah right so you kids really think Whitney/Mariah/Celine/Michael/Prince/U2/Bruce Springteen/Alanis/ hell Madonna and many others who I consider my faves are inferior and boring compared to Katy Perry, Rihanna, Milye, etc, etc??? LOL The jokes that instantly come to mind…
You are lucky that this site went to s***, and now there´s only kids here with very few exceptions, but a year ago or maybe two, 98% of the commentors would have destroyed any type of argument you kids that think like that could have. Sam wanted to attract more kids so he could have even more stan wars and this is the result, more money to him, but a joke of a comment section.

    • Mariah Slaaays October 18, 2013

And you wrote this essay because ….?? Gaga is done just deal with it!!!!

      • JOHNVIDAL October 18, 2013

Nonsensical argument. This post is not about that and my comment wasn´t either. Plus if Gaga is done 95% of musical acts are dead.
I doubt you are a Mariah supporter.

    • Slayty Perry (By The Grace of God) October 18, 2013

If you compare this plan to the plan they did for Teenage Dream they don’t compare at all. Teenage Dream’s promo plan eclipses Prism’s. Roar has only been performed on T.V twice (VMA and SNL) compared to California Gurls (It would take me too long to list all the shows Katy performed it at). Katy’s team is always on point but this plan is really not that big, especially when compared to the previous.

      • JOHNVIDAL October 18, 2013

It´s not a smaller plan just cos there have not been as many performances as in the previous era (to date). It´s different. After all that info TGJ just gave you you still think this is not that much support from the label? 🙂

  20. Lovebird (unconditionally – Prism – 10.22.13) October 18, 2013

I can’t breathe, I’m freaking the f*** out. OMG I’M CRYING, This is what makes pop legends.

Oh yes, my body is quivering, I’m so f****** ready for this slayage.

This project is well put together, I cannot wait.

    • cake like lady gaga October 18, 2013

Will you buy Prism? If she comes to SA, will you go to her concert?

      • Lovebird (unconditionally – Prism – 10.22.13) October 18, 2013

I’m buying it from Target when it comes out, I’ll also buy the digital copy from iTunes.

And I’m not from SA. Just because I’m informed does not mean I’m from SA. You take pride in ignorance, I don’t. That’s the difference between you and me.

  21. Lovebird (unconditionally – Prism – 10.22.13) October 18, 2013

Johnvidal is so delusional on Rihanna. He just simply hates the girl which is why he always downplays her success.

There hasn’t been a pop girl who has worked as hard as Rihanna in the past 10 years.

Rihanna wasn’t even on Island Defjams radar, not until umbrella. Rihanna had to fight and fight and now that it’s paying off, oh it’s clever marketing which is b******* and you know it.

MOTS was a demo and Rihanna smashed, SOS wasn’t really promoted by Defjam and it smashed (#1 in Aussie for 6 weeks), only after umbrella became a monster hit did Defjam start spending their coins on Rihanna.

Rihanna has worked the hardest and she is the most deserving of her success. She didn’t have a daddy with a Bsc in Business Administration negotiating ALL the deals and sabotaging careers to make his daughter look good. Rihanna worked her ass off.

Talk, talk, talk… That’s all your trolling azzz is good at. You couldve shown your support for Riherpes when she was in SA this week. But you were too busy trolling TGJ to support her.

      ULTIMATE KIIIIIII

    • WOK October 18, 2013

he is so delusional that it hurts. for digital era full of piracy her sales are pretty ok if you ask me. His favs would never see Rihanna sales if they debuted in this decade.

  22. Lovebird (unconditionally – Prism – 10.22.13) October 18, 2013

And Katy Perry WRITES her own music, PRODUCES her own music, PLAYS an INSTRUMENT and sings LIVE, Celine Dion CANNOT do any of that.

Singing very good Karaoke does not make you talented. Katy Perry is musically and artistically SUPERIOR to Celine Dion, and judging by what she can do, is more talented.

So you say Celine Dion can’t sing? Watch Celine’s performances, listen to one or two songs of her. Then compare it with Katy’s. I’m telling you Celine’s voice is waaaayyyy better than Katy’s.

    @trollbird

Well, you sure do know A LOT about SA. I’m gonna sit and wait for you to tell me when Riherpes lands at the next country she’s performing in.

I will wait for you to post numerous pics of her at the airport, I will wait for you to tell me in which city she landed, name of the airport, name of stadium she will be performing in, which roads will be closed, townships in the surrounding city, news agents in the city she will performing..

I will wait for you to give me all the above info. You have NEVER done it before, only did it for SA..

    🙂 🙂

  26. Queen of F*** October 18, 2013

    This album is not great.

It will not see multi-platinium success nor will it spawn 5 #1 singles.

Katy’s team is just delusional at this point.

    • Slayty Perry (By The Grace of God) October 18, 2013

I’ll remember this post when Prism goes 3x platinum. Roar has already outsold every single off Teenage Dream with less the promo. I can’t with your delusions!!!

  27. Casual October 18, 2013

Brilliant strategy. It’s worth a shot. They basically did it for Teenage Dream.

Say what you may about Katy, but that album is full of/formatted for #1s. This is her era to shine. Btw, Spiritual by her has been on repeat since yesterday. I’ll be buying prism on Tuesday.

  32. CzarM October 18, 2013

Miss me with the “digital” and downloading excuse. Today’s pop stars – like Katy – don’t sell albums like they did a mere 8-10 years ago (when piracy was still an issue) because they simply aren’t as good. Their music is cheesy and generic, and the GP doesn’t trust their whole album to be worth the whole $10, so they just download the nonsense being pushed on listen to it on YouTube. Adele proved people will still buy albums if you can convince them you’re worth it. Clowns like Katy and Rihanna don’t, so all they can move are singles with an embarrassing album sales ratio comparison.

    • kythaman2u October 18, 2013

The general public doesn’t care about the so-called pop stars of today because most of them are ALL image, but with very little obvious talent and charm/star quality. That’s why their singles are selling 9 million copies, while the parent albums struggle to go platinum.

Nowadays the songs are bigger than the artists themselves and could be recorded by anybody and have basically the same results. There’s no difference between Rihanna and Katy and Gaga and Bieber and 1D and Kesha and Miley and Flo Rida and Pitbull. They’re interchangeable with each other and grab random songs to sing from the same Rolodex.

I’m sure everyone feels that the music and acts that were popular from the time they were 12 to about 24 is the best, but this isn’t a case of me as a 30-something snubbing the up and coming generations pop culture…overall, today’s pop stars are indeed inferior to the pop stars of the 80’s, 90’s and early-mid 00’s, and the comparative facts prove it.

There are no more singing superstars causing earth shattering pandemonium with their music and celebrity status. Now everybody is sort of scrambling to be on the high end of grade “C” while pretending that silly “victories” like most YouTube views and Twitter followers actually mean something.
