Katy Perry has been cooking up new music and is once again ready to serve.

Today brings with it the release of ‘Small Talk,’ the latest taste of freshness from the Pop force.

Co-produced by Charlie Puth, the track finds the singer in quintessential “Katy Perry” territory.

The quirky cut sees the star lyrically unpack the awkwardness of an evaporated romance.

Mary J. Blige has made a career out of keeping it all sorts of real and it’s a trajectory she continues on new song ‘Know.’

Produced by Sounwave and co-written by Blige alongside the likes of Chi Coney and Blue June, the jam finds MJB in reflective mode.

Over a breezy throwback beat, the R&B royal reminisces on the hardships and hurdles she’s had to overcome – that women en masse have to overcome – and celebrates their collective survival.

Taylor Swift has served up another taste of new album ‘Lover.’

This week’s From The Vault salutes none other than Missy Elliott.

Beyond being a female rap pioneer, the multi-talented star serves as a visual trailblazer. Case in point the video for 2001 smash ‘One Minute Man (ft. Ludacris & Trina).’

Lifted from ‘Miss E… So Addictive’ – Elliott’s third studio album – the track hit #15 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #10 on the UK’s Official Top 40. It peaked within the top 20 in a multitude of other regions.

Like most Missy offerings, the Timbaland produced bop was turbo-charged by its high-octane video.

Directed by longtime collaborator Dave Meyers, the clip showcased the trademark flair of Missy’s visual style. For it featured fire choreography, a multitude of set-ups, and quirks aplenty.

Beyond the video, lyrically the cut resonates for its unashamed embrace of female sexual agency. While women of the past were relegated to ornamental objects created for the male gaze (see: the 90s and 00s love affair with “video models”), the likes of Lil Kim, Foxy Brown, and Missy (with releases like ‘One Minute Man’) levelled the playing field by being unapologetic with their demands of the opposite sex. In the process, they created the definitive pinkprint for the “say it how we feel it” mantras of the City Girls and Megan Thee Stallion‘s of today.

Hot Girl Summer may be all the rage in the here and now, but this scorching June ’01 release undoubtedly serves as its original chapter.

Despite becoming the Pop Queen’s 9th #1 album, Madonna‘s latest LP, ‘Madame X,’ made history for the biggest second week drop from the top spot by a female act in the chart’s history (click here to read more).  As if that wasn’t enough, the set slipped out of the Billboard 200 completely less than a month after its chart premiere date.

Undeterred by the project’s mixed critical reviews and commercial nonperformance,  Madge – hard at work in preparation for the launch of the highly anticipated ‘Madame X’ tour – is continuing to promote the effort by lifting visuals for its content.  Having already gifted viewers with videos for the likes of album cuts ‘Crave,’ ‘Medellin,’ ‘Dark Ballet,’ ‘I Rise,’ and ‘God Control,’ now the Pop diva’s gearing up to unveil the accompanying clip for fan favorite, ‘Batuka.’

Will it be enough to reverse ‘X’s fortune to date?  Tell us inside:

She may have ruled over competition last week with her 9th #1 album, ‘Madame X’ (click here to read more), but this week Queen of Pop Madonna suffered a royal disappointment after peruse of the Billboard 200 saw her drop over 70 rungs from the chart’s perch.

Topping the tally thanks to a merchandise/ticket bundle deal that saw fans in line to purchase tickets of her highly anticipated ‘Madame X’ tour also get a free copy of the album, the move gave her just the edge she needed to outpace Bruce Springsteen for the top position.  Fast forward to this week, however, Springsteen – who suffered quite the drop himself – still managed to stay in the top 30.

While industry critics and fans alike are crowning Madonna‘s latest music video, ‘God Control,’ as one of the most prolific of her 35+ year career, some aren’t exactly singing the Queen of Pop’s praises for the visual’s graphic depiction of gun violence.

Designed to advocate for gun control in the U.S., people like Parkland survivor and gun control activist Emma González admit they recognize the Jonas Akerlund-directed clip’s good intention but that hasn’t stopped their criticism.  Branding the video as ‘f*cked up’ and ‘horrible,’ her sentiment echoed that of Pulse nightclub shooting survivor Patience Carter (who labeled the clip ‘traumatic’ and ‘inaccurate’).
